IMHO we need some hard inside midfielders with a bit of experience and aged under 25.
With at teast wanganeen + francou out at seasons end (and probably thurstans/bishop) then we will have a lot of money to attract a couple of long term players.
Who should we target ?

We have enough players that MAY retire as not to be forced to delist anyone.

You need some older more experienced blokes. Someone like Bishop is a bit young and needs some time to mature so look at replacing him with an older defender. Also Chocko needs to go, either replace him with Bones or Freddie.
You also need some blokes to help out Chad and Kane, they love to rack up disposals and waste them so bring in some more ball hog/wasters.
You will be back on top in no time.
just more of the usual crap
Good to see your crack dealer is back in town.

someone like Daniel Kerr one would think.
does anyone think David Rodan would be worthwhile? we could probably get him for next to nothing and i think he could be a gun.

Port shouldn't even be contemplating any trades for the next 3 years or so.
At the moment it needs to do a little more than top up its list - it's officially in a rebuilding stage and it needs to draft plenty of quality kids to replace its impending requirements and other players on its list who aren't quite up to scratch.
There's not much point hanging around the middle of the table for a number of years with no chance of winning a flag.
Better to take a bit of pain now and rebuild the list until there is a genuine chance of winning the flag again.
Players like Shattock, Lonie and to a lesser degree Motlop are just fillers, not premiership boosters.

Oath, I have always rated this kid. Things have been said about him being homesick. Would be perfect in our midfield. Trade Damon to the Weagles for him...
Josh Carr would be nice:(

We always wanted Damon and Butler won't be getting many opportunities at West Coast

If Damon produces at the level we hope from him, I don't see him getting traded, especially because he signed a contract extention before the season started.
But you can have Toby Thurstans and Matthew Bishop.

Shane Birss should have accepted your offer. Would have been good for both Birss and Port.

In terms of delistings, I suspect they will come out of retirements (Francou, Wanganeen and possibly Wakelin) and the obvious (Shattock).
But I also think we need to look at the younger players on our list who are going to remain fringe players for the majority of their careers. It is well agreed that we stuffed up by not trading Thurstans after the Grand Final. I reckon in hindsight, Dew is another player who has never really fulfilled his potential with us and could have landed us a very big trade return after his third or fourth year. In contrast we made the right decision on Eagleton.
We have alot of young kids and I don't want us getting into a situation where these players all do Adam Morgans, Scott Bassetts or Toby Thurstans and stick around if they don't cut it at the highest level.
Brett Ebert is the obvious example at this point of time. I'm also not convinced about Pettigrew.
Both players have done a little bit at AFL and have played enough games to have got some exposure. Other clubs will be confident about what they can achieve with these types of players, yet it wouldn't surprise me if both of them continue to stay around the fringe with us for the next 2-3 years. It might be a big risk and a tough call, especially on Pettigrew, but if we could identify a couple of Montgomeries out there who might fill some holes in our side, we could come out on top.
I see our future back six as involving some combination of Shaun Burgoyne, Chaplin, Carlile, Willits, Lower, Thomas, Symes and Looby. Pettigrew's future position is unclear. Utility or versatile players often get lost unless they are champs before they are made versatile (Kouta, Chad, Hird). Is Pettigrew really showing signs of improvement atm? Is he going to be any better than Bishop if played in a BP?
Let's reserve judgement for the end of the year, but if these sorts of kids aren't showing improvement, now is the time to make the tough call. They may well become extra baggage if we keep them and sign them up to long contracts.

If we are looking at rebuilding - all our trades should be looking a securring good draft picks or young up and comers from other teams!

After todays game I take back saying trade Damon White.

You would be crazy to trade Damon, he always put in 100% when with the Roosters. I think he'll be an important player of the future. What's going on with Brett Ebert? he didn't perform well in SANFL Saturday. This guy has a Magarey and a fine heritage, he should be a regular, is it that the coach doesn't know how to get the best out of him? If that's the case you should trade him , it's not fair to keep him on the fringe, maybe someone else can make him the player he should be.

Port shouldn't even be contemplating any trades for the next 3 years or so.Agreed, except if a genuine blue chip comes on the market.
Otherwise, its SELL! SELL! SELL!
