The Western Bulldogs have run Port Adelaide ragged for a stunning, record-breaking 76-point win at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

The Bulldogs' 25.16 (166) to 13.12 (90) victory ended an eight-game losing streak to Port, and was only their third success in nine duels with the Power at AAMI Stadium.

It also was the Bulldogs' highest score against Port and their biggest winning margin against the 2004 premiers. Their previous highest score was 22.13 (145) and their previous biggest winning margin was 67 points - both in 1999 in their last win against Port at AAMI Stadium. The Dogs' last win against Port was at Telstra Dome in 2000.

The Dogs set up this latest win with a blistering first quarter - 7.5 to 1.4 - and they galloped to a 69-point lead - 12.7 to 1.4 - at the 14-minute mark of the second term before Port finally climbed into the game and added 4.5 to 1.0 in the remaining 16 minutes to trail by 46 points at half-time.

And Port also looked a livelier, more committed side early in the third quarter as it hurried on 4.1 to 1.0 to cut the deficit to 28 points at the 12-minute mark, but the Dogs again ran away by piling on 6.1 to 0.1 in the next 16 minutes to lead by 64 points at the final change.

Port challenged early in the final quarter, but the Dogs stood up to it and were good enough to add 5.7 to 4.1 for a thumping victory that made a mockery of their 77-point loss to Adelaide at AAMI Stadium two weeks earlier when they managed only 7.13 to the Crows' 20.12.

Overall, the Dogs' superior speed and more precise ball movement, with both hand and foot, embarrassed the Power, which was made to look surprisingly sluggish and loose.

Port coach Mark Williams turned his line-up inside out trying to find the right formula, but the Power's only spark was an 8.7 to 2.1 surge in the second half of the second quarter through to the first half of the third.

Statistics emphasised the Bulldogs' early dominance. They had 116 disposals to Port's 69 in the first quarter and 109 to 77 in the second term.

By the end, the Dogs had 10 players with 20 or more disposals while Port had five. Simply, all the Dogs contributed, while Port had several players who did not do enough.

Daniel Giansiracusa topped a congested Bulldog stats sheet with 35 disposals (18 kicks and 17 handpasses), and Scott West (32), Daniel Cross (31) and Rohan Smith (27) were all effective.

The tallies for Peter Burgoyne (33), Shaun Burgoyne (26), Kane Cornes (23), Danyle Pearce (23) and Brendon Lade (19, plus 27 hit-outs) illustrated their value to Port, and Chad Cornes and Damon White were solid.

Brad Johnson kicked four of the Dogs' 25 goals, Adam Cooney booted three in a row early in the first quarter, and Nathan Eagleton (three) and Brett Montgomery (two) enjoyed their work against their former team.

Will Minson was a late withdrawal from the Bulldogs. Wade Skipper replaced him and started on the interchange bench with Farren Ray, Matthew Robbins and Matthew Boyd.

The Dogs decided to give Minson another week to recover from a fractured fibula from their round three match against Essendon at Telstra Dome. Foot stress fractures forced Skipper to miss last week's loss to St Kilda at Telstra Dome.

Port opened with Daniel Motlop, Stuart Dew, Michael Wilson and Jacob Surjan on its bench.

Pretty much the same names in the best players every week too. Time to drop the non-performers.
