View Full Version : Symesy
Does he come straight back in, if fit? I'd bloody well hope so, would he have lost much fitness over 2 weeks?

Even Kingsley had to play a game at SANFL level before coming in unfit, I don't see how Symes will avoid it.

Symes for Cassisi might be the move. More likely to be Shattock though.
Im sure Symes will be stuck at Centrals for the next two months.
Well Kingsley had a longer layoff thus the SANFL buildup I suspect. Symes has only missed 2 weeks.
Michael Wilson was straight back into the AFL mix this week after his injury.
Symesy will probably get a week at centrals. Wilson isn't like Symsey, in that wilson has been around a long time, and has come back from many injuries, and if he says 'i'm ready', the club will take his word.

The club needs to start doubting the "word" of our senior players as too many of them are talking the talk without making their words translate into actions. Not an indictment specifically on Wilbur, but if the leadership group don't lead on the ground then their rights of automatic selection should be indefinitely withheld.
FWIW, I am also sick of seeing so much of our players in the Adelaide Confidential pages and in the back sections of the Sunday Mail. They are employed as footballers - attending fashion shows should be no more part of their job description than visiting animal reserves and patting snakes.
If they have the time and energy to go to these celebrity functions, then they are not working hard enough.
Expect alot of older heads to roll this week and the youngsters to come back.
My theory is, and i hope it's right:
We were playing a genuine premiership contender in the western bulldogs. By playing the youngsters against such a good side would do no good for their confidence. The older heads was the better option, and perhaps why deluca was dropped for thurstans. Thurstans has more experience etc.
So now we're playing brisbane, who aren't going too well, and are at the same stage as us. But particularly after the brisbane game, we have calrton and essendon. If we don't play youngsters, and lots of them against both those teams, i will be very disappointed in choco and the management.
If the club wants to move forward, they need to change all the support staff from what it was before. Start at the top, get rid of Rhode. Then the assistant coaches, forward coaches etc.
We had great support staff when we won the GF. We have some of the worst in the business atm.

Yeah, no-one around Williams instills you with much confidence save Primus perhaps, but even he would seem unlikely to take the tough stance against his former coach if he disagrees with something.
I heard late last year that Phil Walsh will be out of contract at the end of 2006 and will not seek to renew it as he is sick of the demands of the job. Same source also told me he does not rate Steve Salopek as he has lots of "issues".
How reliable the source? Next best thing to the man himself.

it would be great if we dropped some of the old players who are non performers ie bishop, dew, cassis and took peter burgoyne out of the centre square.
BUT this is williams we are all talking about and IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. not in a million years.
my guess is that pettigrew will be this week's young player scapegoat.
Its good to see that Choco gave Surjan some recognition today, he did battle his hardest. With cassisi going out you would think symes could slot back in.

While on the topic of issues behind the scenes, a high ranking state politician (not the Premier) was overhead at a function following the flogging by the crows (thank goodness it did rain that night) as saying to expect more results like that as there were some real problems at Alberton.

Would have to be Foley or Conlon then.
As I said elsewhere "There's something rotten in the state of Denmark." The question is what? It's too easy to blame the players as a group. They are a symptom of something wrong behind the scenes.
