Dont wanna rain on your parade hansie but i heard today that the vcfl are having a good hard look at the entire league at the moment. hope it isnt true.
Not surprised Slim - a 6 team comp with a struggler is always going to be looked at hard by the vcfl. Agree with you that hopefully all goes well!
Wouldn't it be ironic though? Consider this;
- 2005: VCFL kills off CGFL, sends sides to Picola, YVMDFL and KDFL.
- 2006: Posts on other forums seems to suggest the bulk of CGFL players/clubs would prefer to have their own, close comp
- 2006: Further restructure to footy in this area, including rumours of a revival of the old Northern Echuca League, which will drain the now over-subscribed Murray and Picola Leagues
- 2006/07 BDFNL under review.
Meanwhile, Glenrowan and Benalla All Blacks continue to battle somewhat in the O&K.
Guts of this is, wouldn't it have been better to keep the Central Goulburn and move the BDFNL clubs into it? Perhaps even lure All Blacks back? This would have meant survival of the fittest, and provided some opportunities for mergers (say Swanpool/Tatong, All Blacks/Devenish).
If the Benalla League goes, so will Devenish and possibly Tatong. The remaining claubs would then be forced on new Leagues without natural rivalries and heaps more travel potentially...
Just putting forward an opinion, but would be interested to hear other thoughts....
Cheers

I'd agree with that forever and a day Hansie. All Blacks shoulda been encouraged to hang in there another year.
Rumba always thought they were too good (GV my ar$e!!!), Dookie and Shepp East coulda joined the PDFL or KDFL. This woulda left VT, Yea, Alex, Thornton and say All Blacks, maybe coulda traded Shepp East for Avenel and then with the 6 BDFNL clubs the CGFL coulda had 12 initial clubs, which may have turned into less with possible mergers but still woulda geographically been a fairer alternative to some of the routes travelled nowadays.
Lets not forget that Broadford had expressed an interest after the 2004 season in joining the CGFL in 2006 but talks never eventuated during the "killing off" of the Central Goulburn.
With talks of an Echuca based comp, a revamp of the PDFL and Coreen comps, the BDFNL facing a dilemma not that different to the CGFL - can we expect a complete revamp/overhaul of footy throughout the Goulburn Murray region, with clubs realigned to more logical geographic homes . . . . or is that me thinking out aloud again!!!

Was talking to some All Blacks comm, guys at a function recently. They are as happy as pigs in $hit in the o&k. You wouldnt get em out with dynamite. They are not trying to take the league by storm as they have had to totally rebuild the club.

Cheers for that Doona, always good to get the thumbs-up from a knowlegeable fella such as yourself! Always enjoy reading what you have to say:thumbsu:
Guys what happened with Dev at the w/end. Did they really have to forfiet again?
Geeze Lidge 8 clubs and finished at 26. Would you have played with John Brunner at Yarra.
Yeah, briefly - under Les' Salty' Parish as coach. Couple of bush legends there!:thumbsu:

My mail is that the Bats would've handed out a fair caning to the Barbers, given the numbers shortage, hence the decision to forfeit (Thurs night). From what I hear, other sides have played a mix of 1s/2s against Devenish to keep the results competitive, however Goorambat wouldn't do that.

how did longwood go on the weekend? best players?
were Dev able to get a side for this w/end
If this league is in fact, gone, then what about this possible solution?
Combine the KDFL (13), Picola (16 minus Shepp East, who should be in the Murray) and B&DFL (6). Add in All Blacks, Alex and Thornton for good measure, and make a Divisional structure of 2 x12 and 1x11. E.g. Divvy 1 would be Lanky, Rushy, Stanhope, Yea, the other 2 of the top 6 in Ky, then Tunga, Picola, Waaia, Dookie, a couple more from Picola and the Bats...
Divvy 2 could be Doon, Longwood and then the next 5 Ky teams, Alex, Thornton and the next 3 Picola sides
Divvy 3 the rest - All Blacks, Swanpool, Tatong Devenish plus the others. This would see you blokes with winnable games against the likes of Berrigan, Wunghnu, Deni Rovers, Strathy, Avenel and Nagaz
Travel shouldn't be TOO bad - and eventually the evenness of the comp would win over

A good idea hansie, but just a few thoughts on it like how would the existing b & d teams go fielding a thirds side, coz i dont think if the div 3 didn't have thirds that any of the k & d teams or picola teams would be for it, as they want to keep these thirds blokes at thier club to go on and play seniors and reserves in later years. And just to be quite honest i'd hav to think that all b & d teams would be in div 3 even g'bat and then add the likes of wuhgnu, avenal, etc. but none the less, improvements on our area in country footy need to be made by the vcfl. i think this idea may struggle to find the support it needs from the surrounding leagues... i don't know the answer but they need to keep investigating and quizing all clubs in our area on their thoughts for the future and a good resolution:thumbsu:
