View Full Version : Could Ess V WCE be the smallest Dons crowd at the Dome?

I fear this week the crowd may not even hit 30,000. I'm pretty sure every Essendon game at the Dome has exceeded 30,000.

However with the boys in poor form and the fact that they could only get 33,000 to Carlton V Essendon, the crowd figure could be as low as 25,000---- very un Essendon like.

Tip 26,000

Essendon traditionally have low crowds at away games. Sadly, a lot of our members don't go to away games. Regardless of form.

I'd be suprised if we didn't crack 30,000 this week. Especially considering it won't be mothers day and the weather won't matter. A lot will go just to watch Judd.

I think we got a crowd just under 30k vs Freo a few years back at the Dome. Might be the only one.

I'm expecting 35k.

Spot on. Have been given tickets to this week and the only reason to go is to watch Judd probably the most watchable player in the game. :thumbsu:

Yeah Judd is fantastic to watch, I reckon WCE should stay home and let Judd make the trip alone because he will single handedly rip us a new one.

We should be able to get atleast 30,000.

Who cares about the crowd.

Why would a melbourne supporter care?

f--- off back to your board.

i'd like to think that after years of success, dons supporters won't just flee at the first sign of trouble

There will be between 25-30,000. Our supporters usually turn up to home games and we are playing a glamour club and a flag contender.

I usually get the crowds spot on. I predicted 36,000 for Carl-Ess (wasn't taking into account the wet)

I reckon 27,458.

I think we can win it. Sometimes you need to bottom out during a losing streak before you win again. Remember 1997? We lost 6 in a row and the last of the 6 was a 94 point drubbing to Freo. After that sixth, and worst loss, we then won the next week, by 94 points against Richmond.

I think we've bottomed out, and we can all expect an improved performance this week.

we have struggle to beat the eagles at the dome the last few times even when we have had a fairly good team playing. i think we match up well against them and we may be able to pull a few surprises. i just hope we try something different up forward and not be predictable with lucas or hille. why not play a different forward line and just put it in there high and long and let them fly at it. play guys who can mark overhead and are difficult to match up on like lovett-murry and mcphee. i know it might expose us down back but we have to find a way to kick a winning score.

maybe try dyson of half back and give him the ball to run it out and use his long left foot.

Define bottomed out. Give me your expected win-loss for us over the next four weeks.

Our smallest Docklands crowds:

29528 30-Jun-2001 R13 v Fremantle
30383 15-May-2005 R08 v Fremantle
32667 25-Aug-2002 R21 v Fremantle
32715 01-Jun-2003 R10 v West Coast
33150 10-Apr-2004 R03 v West Coast
33841 06-May-2001 R06 v West Coast
34262 19-May-2002 R08 v St Kilda
34567 07-Jul-2000 R18 v Fremantle

We were on top at 11-2, Freo were last 0-13.

Considering we've only once failed to attract 30000, I'd be surprised if we didn't get over 30000. Then again, it's going to rain Saturday, be 8 degrees overnight then 14 and raining on Sunday.

Shame it's on nein rather that Fox.

Be lucky to get 26k. Won't bother me, I'll be there.

They'll win by 13 goals or so. Judd to get at least 35 touches.

I think the Crowd may be a bit bigger, with Bomber fans wanting to see if our Guys have something, other supporters will go just to what WCE's and to take the change to bag us.

And you still havent answered the question why a melbourne supporter would care what crowd Essendon pull on the weekend?

It doesnt make sense why you would come on to an Essendon board telling us how this weekend we will draw below 30k.

There will be a decent crowd for us boys.. remember last week it was mothers day didnt expect a crowd. The true faithful will come out to watch us have a crack. I reckon we will put in a big show.. bit of an upset im tipping

Bottomed out in the sense that our form hit it's lowest ebb against Carlton, and we will play better after that "bottoming out." In my opinion, anyway.

Win-loss over the next 4 weeks? Who knows? We're playing better teams so playing better may not necessarily result in an improvement in the W-L column.

crowd 31434 I think, our 3rd lowest TD crowd.

if it was cold and raining earlier like it is now, I doubt they would have got 30,000.

West Coast fans always travel. Don't know what they are like at subi games, but they're probably the most decent away supporters I reckon.

Still what we had there was good. Made some noise for once. Good to see the cling ons not show up. F--kem with a rusty axe head I reckon.

Crowd sounded great on TV very pumped, got behind the boys in the second quarter when they were turning it on.

Disappointed I couldn't get there today, but I hope I can make it next week.

To be last on the ladder and get 31K against an interstate team is good. You'd have to say 31K would therefore be our absolute core base support. Nice and loud too. Loudest and most passionate crowd all year.

If we can't beat Port this week.... My God the season will turn ugly.

Does anyone else get the feeling that beating Port this week could be the difference betweem and 7-15 or 8-14 season, and a 3-19, 4-18 season?

Lose this week, and a spoon beckons. Win and there is still a chance for respectability, and 7 or 8 wins.

That'll be tested a bit more next week. There were quite a few W.C fans there today - i'd guess around 3k to maybe even as much as 5k. Even on the train in i noticed the ratio was very close. They even got that bloody chant going in the last. Port will lucky be lucky to get 1k in.

This year:
29,232 v Port Power (worst)
31,343 v West Coast (4th worst)

Wow it was bare tonight. I think most were still there at 3/4 time. Good comedy is hard to come by.

It's been quite embarrassing the crowds latelt, I guess there are a lot of fair weather Essendon supporters :(

M29
28 May 2006, 11:54
Considering how rubbish both Essendon and port are 29k was a reasonable turn out, considering there were about 20 port fans. Alot stayed to the end.

I recall back in 04 collingwood had a rubbish run and played infront of about 29k at the mcg vs port. With a similar result. Port smashed them.

I don't think you can categorise who has the most 'fair weather' supporters. Every team has them. Not that it bothers me. If pricks (of any team) don't want to show up and follow their side through tough times, they can f**k off when they start showing up when they start winning.

I question why when 15th plays 16th it is chosen as the free to air tv game. Like last week against West Coast. Why were we on free to air? Rather be on foxtel anyway cos it's live with no ads. But the way we are going, we should be hidden from the public eye.

Round 16, Saturday avo. Essendon v Carlton (G), Collingwood v West Coast (TD). I wonder which game will be on free to air.

Collingwood is playing at the dome in round 16.
