View Full Version : Carrara: Lessons to be learned.

Jonathan Brown’s super individual effort of out positioning two opponents, Smithy and Roughie, deft leading and 16 marks converted to 8 goals and the dominance of Brisbane veterans, Voss, Power and Black at centre clearances along with the overall ability of opposition players to position themselves not to be under the pump when a team mate passes to them, hand or foot, an ingredient our young players will need to urgently acquire in their style, are the three main reasons why our boys were given a football lesson at Carrara.
Pleasing aspects of the night was the 5 goals by Willo with limited opportunities and the predominance of the 12,315 crowd being Hawks supporters wearing their brown and gold. Of course it was our home game and Brisbane followers were not going to make their way down the M1 the way their team had been performing of late and not being worth the price of fuel.
It is a worry that so many of ours turned out, many of whom now live on the Coast, had to sit and witness a generally pathetic performance by our team. But full credit to Mitch, Chance, Cam, Guerra and Roughie for stellar work in attempting to stem the tide.
Agree Gary.
The performance was :D:D:D:D, but the crowd was promising.
Hawks have a strong following on the Coast, shame they don't make it to the GABBA in such great numbers.
Did you go to the after match function?
Will Josh Thurgood play this weekend??

Nice Gary, though this has happened in all games we have lost. We lack a forward and a tall, I don't see why we can't play Simon Taylor and Spida in the ruck and Campbell down back to either fill the hole or play at CHB. He did this in the scratch match at Leederville against the Chooks in the NAB Challenge.

Did you go to the after match function?
I intended to do so, Hawkk, but there is a combination of reasons why I didn't. Foremost was that I was so darned disappointed with our team's performance. Secondly, as I previously wrote, I was introducing an NRL Manly fan to our game live, he had become an admirer over 9 years of watching our teams on TV since coming to Tweed Heads from Sydney. He retired as a high order cop in the NSW police force. He agreed with me that our players would be embarrased fronting up at the function and he, like me, didn't want to witness such a situation (I have had similar experiences at the Gabba on past occasions). Also I had a flight to catch early Sunday morning.
Thanks for asking, mate. Did you go?

With huge players of the likes of Rocca, Thompson and Brown denting our ladder percentage, thus far, it is time Clarko started to think huge and go for (experiment in a more positive way) some of the heavier tall youngsters on our list. Leave them at FB / CHB in an an attempt to establish a player of stature to counteract (maybe not in the short term) the likes of the three afore mentioned, all of whom our team has made to look better than what they are by our selectors failing to match-up physically. We have nothing to lose but not losing, if you get my drift.

Thanks Gary, I am from the West and have been financial for 12yrs. This site is a BIG BONUS for me as I have to put up with the biased media coverage on a day to day basis (Dorkers and Chooks). I travel to Vic as often as possible to watch the Hawks, so to be able to chat with fellow supporters on a forum such as this is TOO GOOD!!! Lets hope our mid-field starts to fire up as well as each game we have lost the supply to the oppositions forwards has been too much...GO HAWKS........

Great Kipster. I'm sure you will enjoy being involved on this board all the more considering you are in bias country.
