View Full Version : A team of clones

Something different. We all say from time to time (especially lately given how many are playing like crap) that we wish we had two of Lade or Chad etc.

So here's a totally useless challenge. Assume you can clone any of our players - an exact duplicate - same age (so no putting 3 20yr old Wanga's in it), same brain, etc. You can make as many clones of each player as possible. What would your best 22 look like ?

I'll add one proviso. For this exercise assume all our players are fully fit - so we have the 2001- 2005 Tredrea, not the half-fit 2006 model.

My clone side :
FF : S. Burgoyne Lade Mahoney
HF : Pearce Tredrea C. Cornes
C : C. Cornes S. Burgoyne P. Burgoyne
HB : Wakelin C. Cornes S. Burgoyne
FB : Walsh Wakelin Symes
1R : Lade K. Cornes Pearce
Int : Tredrea Salopek Wilson K. Cornes

My clones :
A Chad up forward, in the centre and down back.
Two Lade's to alternate ruck and forward.
Two Wakelins to cover the two key back positions FB and CHB, allowing a Chad as the rebounding defender.
A Junior B. in the guts, without having to sacrifice him down back. And one to crumb up forward.
A Pearce in the centre and one up forward, as we lack pace in both areas.
An extra Tredders (fit model) on the bench, who can go either to CHF or FF when the other tires.
A duplicate Kane, because otherwise the side looks very thin on for defensive midfielders.

The frustrating thing is, even doing this, we'd end up with a fantastic forward and back line, but our midfield would still lack toughness. :(

I freely admit this was taking too much thinking time. Especially when I began cloning past players, and present players with their younger bodies. Wanganeen, Primus, Francou, Paxman, Mead, Poole, Heuskes (kept in a Hannibal Lecter type restraint off-field).....
I give up

Yeah, DNA splicing needs to be taken into account.

Dry land is not a myth!

Just wait until the AFL bring in their Father-Clone rule

.... or is that Donor-Clone

But what a game we would get. Chad would rack up a world-record 114 possessions, and Byron, of course, would be suspended for the rest of his natural life..... We might also even get an inside 50 or two :o

But seriously folks right now I'd settle for a clone of the team that flogged the Swans. Remember them??

That is pretty close to where I was going with the "best 6" threads except that I was trying to find out a consensus on "best" team just incase I was seeing it wrong.

The frustrating thing is, even doing this, we'd end up with a fantastic forward and back line, but our midfield would still lack toughness. :(

That unfortunately is one of the two conclusions I was expecting to see. The other being lack of accountability in our midfield. Good as these players are, accountability is not exactly a forte when looking at the group as a whole. :(
