mj,jj,McV,bolton,pev,5 players that could be offered to other clubs in return for a gun on-baller 23-24 old(In the style of an Embley or Bartel)players that are in their top10 but are not at the top of their clubs salary tree yet.Of course they would have to be out of contract and looking for bigger money than their own club offered.
Trading mj or jj would kill me as a supporter because i love these guys, but this is footy now. These two have lost pace and don't Kick enough goals, but they are still good players.worth something now-worth bugger all in two or three years.Bolton lacks "vision" around the ground. He seems to panic a bit when he gets the ball and is only effective when his confidence is up.He gets beat'in every time he plays on a star forward.maybe he needs a new club, new start.Pev is a gem.He reminds me of some of my U7 AusKick players.Desperation, guts, the will to do anything to get the ball. But,its just not good enough at this level. He hasn't got the top level ball skills to really drill it into a forward's hands.McVeigh has been great for this club.He struggled for about 4 years to cement his place in the side and he is a deadly kick for goal, good in defence.Exactly why he is worth $ now.Why take a risk and keep these older players and hope they play well and get us to the finals next year.I'd hate to be part of the EFC board at seasons end deciding who should stay and who will go.Its hard for us Essendon supporters to think of trading good players because we don't do it a lot, but we are in a postion where some tuff decisions have to be made.Hardwick was the last gun player we traded,we didnt want to,but someone had to make room for the kids coming up.Welsh is having a slow start this year, but he will be right in time.He is a very hard nut,and history shows u need the nuts in the back line to win flags.NathanLM will develop into a top line running back flanker i feel.We really need someone to anchor down c/half back and play there week after week.
The 2000 glory days were 6years ago.time to re-shuffle the decks and gamble on the new generation of young dons.I'm guttered about our progress this year but i'm excited about what lays around the corner at Bomberland......now if we could just get 2more years out of hirdy.................

I tell you what, go to the Geelong or West Coast Board and post up what you've written here.
Namely JJ, MJ or McVeigh for Embley or Bartel.
I think you'll get the same response from them as Sheedy would from Worsfold and Thompson.
Ask yourself this, if we don't want them why would anybody else ?
Pev and Bolton will either stay at Essendon or be delisted.
No club will trade for them. To think otherwise is delusional.

I actually reckon someone might take Bolton. I reckon that is quite possibly the only reason he'll get games in the seniors this year, to boost his trade value. If he spends the year at Bendigo, he has none.
He's been close to going twice, we won't get much for him but there is every chance someone will have a nibble.
The Johnson's won't get traded. Sheedy won't make the mistake of trading club champions away again. They are more value to EFC than anyone else and they are more value to EFC than just what we are seeing on the field at the moment.
At a time when our list is already struggling because of the lack of 23-27 year olds, we would be mad to trade the few good ones we do have.
There is always a club at the end of the year who has a player on their list who is on their way to being a 'gun' but the club won't budge on price, because they can't fit them into the cap,so they look at deals from other clubs. It's gunna happen to WC next year.
Paul Williams is a good example, collingwood took the punt that he wasn't going to get any better at the age of 27-28, but he was attractive to other clubs and was worth the trade at the time.Pies would have thought,'you can have him, suckers!' but look where his form took him at the swans..... the pies lost that bet, but it could have happened the other way. They could have kept him, payed him money that could have gone into young kids and then.......form drops, pace drops, confidence goes etc. Sounds like the story of some of our "older"players.
If a club is willing to take a punt on a player like Ted Richards, than anythings possible. We have 5 or 6 players that are using up about 1mil in payments that i for one would like to see spent on youth OR a gun on-baller who is not over 30 (Campo is a bet by the EFC that is yet to be seen weather it pays off)

There's a player like that every year yet you had to think back to Paul Williams to find an example?

I agree, however I doubt we would get anything more than a third round pick, unless his form dramatically rises in the 2nd half of the season.
Of the five the only two worth any value would be McVeigh and MJ.
I would like to keep both but I wonder what value to Sydney and Geelong respectively these boys would be pairing up with their brothers.

We should delist Bolton at year's end, he's no value to us going forward. A 3rd or 4th Round pick we should take in this draft.
Not sure Sydney would want a McVeigh type, they have plenty similar. No doubt Bomber would love MJ at Geelong.

Guys Bartel signed a new 3 or 4 contract over the 05/06 break.
Does this mean he is totally out of touch. No but I can tell you the players mentioned wouldn't get him to Windy Hill
There would only be one thing that would get Bartel and that is the same as it cost us to get Ottens. R1 draft picks. Last year out of contract, if persuaded he could have been got instead of your Carlton guy but now the cost would be way too much , Im sure

Paul Williams left because he wanted more money. I'm pretty sure he had some business problems back in Tassie and the Pies couldn't help him out. We did get Clement and Holland out of the deal though so a win/win for the Swans and Pies.
We should delist Bolton at year's end, he's no value to us going forward. A 3rd or 4th Round pick we should take in this draft.
When Bolton was fit and full of confidence a few seasons ago (seems like decades) he was a very valuable player in the make up of our side playing as a mobile chf, leading deap to the wings and draging his shagged opponent up the ground. If we can get him back into that role, he could regain that form we expect from him. Don't get me wrong, I am the first one in the crowd calling for his head and would only hope this elevated form equats only as value on trade day.
I just wonder what team would need a player of his type (with form obviously).
I think someone would take Peverill also..especially those with established midfielders and require someone up forward to keep it inside their forward 50 in the mould of Matthew Robbins.
If we had some leg speed in the midfield, I dare say he would be more than handy in the forward 50 for us with a little goal kicking practice.
Im still a fan of the strongest player at our club, so maybe Im biased.

I think it's safe to say that we won't be trading any of our draft picks this year. Not the first two rounds anyway. The more I hear about this draft the more i'm convinced that will be the case. Unless of course Judd wants to come home. If we get Gibbs, then we get him. If we miss out I hear that there are a couple of likley CHB running around that we could choose from that will go inside the top 4 or 5. I'm happy with that.
Even better if we miss out on them all, as that would mean that we have won games. Reality is that we probaly won't. So I would love to have two first round picks, three if we get the priority pick in between the first and second round(I think that's right, isn't it?).
Question is how do we get it? Bolton, Pevrill, Henneman etc aren't going to get us that, so let's take them out of the equation. We should take anything we can get from them. But would someone like Melbourne give us a first round pick for both McVeigh and Welsh? Would you take a pick in the top 10 for those two? For me, yes, for others no.
Johnson should stay, maybe Solomon. Premiership players just do something for me. And also, we should bring back Cupido, because if Bolton goes, i'll need another stupid palyer to love.

Melbourne is awash with small defenders.
Nathan Brown, Matthew Whelan, Simon Godfrey, Daniel Bell, Clint Bartram, Nathan Jones, Phillip Read and Daniel Ward just to name a few.
They don't need any more.
Absoloutly dreaming if you think McVeigh and Welsh would attract a top 10 pick from them.
You've also got to factor in the salary cap concerns they would have as both players would be on 150K (minimum)

Or we could be patient, delist the players at the end of the year that will not make it and go about the rebuilding which we have been doing for the past two seasons.
I've used this example before but its worth noting. Imagine if Collingwood delisted Dane Swan and Heath Shaw last season. They hadn't done anything and the team was sitting at the bottom of the ladder.
Or Adelaide got rid of players like Massie, Reilly, Hentschel, Bock, Rutten  who had shown nothing and traded their older players such as Edwards, Goodwin, Hart for draft picks at the end of 2004.
Believe it or not, the club knows what its doing.

That's what i'm saying tripper. If we can't trade anyone, de-list the Hennemans, Boltons etc and just get on with it. I don't really think that just because we can't get a worthwhile trade for McVeigh and Welsh we sack them. That is silly.

I dont think a great deal of you realise how strong this draft will be. If your talking about trading next year, fair enough but who know because they may get worse. You have got to bit the bullet and cut your ties or persist.
Take these things in.
1. If we happen to finish in the bottom 3, we may get Bryce Gibbs or even Joel Selwood. They will be quality players and many judges rate them both easily ahead of Mark Murphy, and we know how well he's going.
2. If we finish last, we may be able to persuade a quality player to the club regardless. Security of knowing we are going to have 1st pick, and being a proud club with a rich history, we could get a class player. Who that may be, we are yet to know.
Personally, I cant wait til the 2008 draft. A 15 year old down at Essendon Grammar will be a star in Addam Maric, who has strong hands, kicks it a mile and is almost a Hird clone in his style of play(Being a HF Flanker/Onballer).
Prehaps we can persuade him to keep under the radar and pick him up:cool:

it will be hard to draft a quality draft player in this maric character when we win the flag in 08 :P... no serious massive raps for a kid who hasnt finished puberty yet.. but if its true i got wide open arms waiting here
There is going to be a lot of clubs who will crash and burn this season, not just us.I think there will be lots of activity come seasons end 06' and deals will be thick and fast between clubs.EFC should not sit back and stay out of it as usual and give our "development" 25 year old players another chance next season.Lets go get those top5 draft picks and get ourselves in a position for the future. We all have to wait till about RD 15-16 before we single out guys for the chop.thats the frustrating part of a bad start to the year.We have to get thru the winter before we really know the state of our club.
The draft is gunna have some quality kids in it this year and its only gunna get better as the years go on.But its a fine balancing act isn't it.Who should stay who should go? glad i'm not callin the shots at BomberLand!

McVeigh has been very good this year in shutting down top midfielders. To me he stays. M.J, J.J are struggling but wont get you the player you are talking about. They stay as they will come good and be of value mixing with what I hope is a young vibrant list. Bolts will get us nothing much but would be nibbled at. To me if there is a spot left ,keep him for depth and our ammusement. Pev gets us nothing, Henno gets us nothing so trade bait is not something these blokes can be considered. Trades for top notch players these days are for early draft picks and Im sure it would have to be a Judd,or a crack young C.H.B befor we give away our top pick this year.(hopefully it isnt pick#1) .Welsh along with Nash, Carts etc may intrest certain clubs in lesser deals. In short, go with kids to add to the promise of our younger players and cut the deadwood as the list dictates. The only way to get a trade for a disgruntled gun is high drafts or high quality. Not easy if it backfires.

I saw him play for PEGS vs Essendon Keilor College on Wednesday in the Herald Sun Shield. If you dont know what that is, its a school competition that is similiar to an interleague comp, except for school kids. Best players from each school play, so that means most players are 17 or 18. You have to be good to be 15 and play, and he is.
Ive heard of him before, kicked 115 goals as a first year U16 in the EDFL A competition, but Wednesday was the first I saw of him and he has quality. Ken Fletcher(PEGS Coach) rates him ahead of Scott West at the same age. And also, EKC reportedly have the most TAC cup kids in their team:eek:

Funny stuff.
You guys simply don't have a lot to offer at the trade table. Nothing you'd be prepared to part with, anyway.
You people are just plain stupid. Trade Bolts? Pev? Henneman? The only club that will trade with us are the Woori Yallock under 18s. Or if you read the hype maybe we should do a straight swap Judd for Courtney Johns. We have nothing of any trade value other than Scott Lucas and Monfries Ryder Dempsey Laycock Hille Lloyd who we don't want to get rid of. He's only played four games. That's hardly a hell of a lot of opportunities. Especially for a bloke playing in a key position.
Using Quentin Lynch as an example. He's played 60 games, is 23 and is now starting to show some sort of consistent form. If we can get that kind of impact out of Johns down the track, then for a rookie pick, we've done alright.
I'm not sure he's slow either.

There is a difference between an opinion and fact.
If I post something that I believe to be factual I will so say. If that turns out to be wrong then I will wear it and I have accepted when I've been wrong. You can't critisise if it's accurate.
If I make an opinion, which can't be right or wrong, then I will always back up it up. Always.

Are you going to prove it or are you just going to throw around unjustified slander?

That I've spoken rubbish. No problem with making you laugh, thought I'd return the favour.
Are you going to prove it or are you just going to throw around unjustified slander?
Your arrogance is getting the better of you. If this slander is unjustified why am i not the first?

Are you not?
Or are you counting the thread from last week that lasted all of about 10 minutes until the individual was banned?
And I came to terms with my arrogance a long time ago. You don't succeed without it.

Just relax, go to bed and cuddle your missus. Or in reality say goodnight to mum and dad and go to bed under your single essendon quilt surrounded by your posters of bolts, cockatoo-collins and micky symons

What about a Michael Prior poster? Do you think anyone would still have one of them?

True. I'm like Rocky outside the pub in Rocky 5. But you are no Tommy Gunn
Movie quote, nice. If we were in primary school i may think of you as "playlunch cool." Not cool enough to hang around at lunch-time, but bareable at recess.
How can anyone respect a grown man who pushes the disabled people out of the way to get a much loved personalised autograph from Bolts after training? We all know the type
Wow, that's quite an imagination you have there sport. Autism is a bitch, don't let it get you down though.
Where do you get your info? Let the people know. Don't talk rubbish about the club.
opinion
• noun 1 a view or judgement not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
He doesn't have "info." He has the above, an opinion, like the rest of us. We come to this place to air said opinions and argue our point via rebuttal and other forms of debate. If you can't understand this concept, you're at the wrong website.
Opinions are great but its the sycophants like you that keep our mediocre players thinking they are better than they are
Wow, a complex word and you managed to use it in context. Pity it doesn't quite fit the criteria of your subject matter. Better luck next time.

Why I'm even bothering here I have no idea but.
Wow, turning it into a personal attack, real mature mate. Grow up.

most random post of the month... that due for a 'lol' response?
So is it just me or does WC have the gayest club song in the comp?

Any more personal attacks mate and i'll give you the arse. Its hard enough to deal with opposition trolls without having to put up with rubbish from our own .

I've played against him and he's very good. On the weekend he played for Calder Under 18s which is a huge effort for a 15-16 year old but he also managed 4 goals out of a forward pocket.
JJ,Johnno,McVeigh,bolton,pev,5 players that could be offered to other clubs in return for a gun on-baller 23-24 old(In the style of an Embley or Bartel)players that are in their top10 but are not at the top of their clubs salary tree yet.Of course they would have to be out of contract and looking for bigger money than their own club offered.
Trading mj or jj would kill me as a supporter because i love these guys, but this is footy now. These two have lost pace and don't Kick enough goals, but they are still good players.worth something now-worth bugger all in two or three years.Bolton lacks "vision" around the ground. He seems to panic a bit when he gets the ball and is only effective when his confidence is up.He gets beat'in every time he plays on a star forward.maybe he needs a new club, new start.
Pev is a gem.He reminds me of some of my U7 AusKick players.Desperation, guts, the will to do anything to get the ball. But,its just not good enough at this level. He hasn't got the top level ball skills to really drill it into a forward's hands.
McVeigh has been great for this club.He struggled for about 4 years to cement his place in the side and he is a deadly kick for goal, good in defence.Exactly why he is worth $ now.Why take a risk and keep these older players and hope they play well and get us to the finals next year.I'd hate to be part of the EFC board at seasons end deciding who should stay and who will go.Its hard for us Essendon supporters to think of trading good players because we don't do it a lot, but we are in a postion where some tuff decisions have to be made.
Hardwick was the last gun player we traded,we didnt want to,but someone had to make room for the kids coming up.Welsh is having a slow start this year, but he will be right in time.He is a very hard nut,and history shows u need the nuts in the back line to win flags.NathanLM will develop into a top line running back flanker i feel.
We really need someone to anchor down c/half back and play there week after week.
The 2000 glory days were 6years ago.time to re-shuffle the decks and gamble on the new generation of young dons.I'm guttered about our progress this year but i'm excited about what lays around the corner at Bomberland......now if we could just get 2more years out of hirdy.................[/QUOTE]
One of my first threads posted...I was wrong JJ,MJ and McVeigh..sorry guys:o
Pev and Bolts are another story though.......
Paddy at CHB...problem solved:thumbsu:
we were never going to get anything for pev and bolts. you can't blame clubs for showing no interest in them.
paddy should be great at CHB in the years to come form what i have seen of him in defence.
on the CHB position:
i think that supporters of other teams are underestimating how valuable big mal will be to our side. freeing up fletch to play across half back will make a huge difference. also by acquiring mal's service we don't have to play kepler at CHB. therefore he can develop hopefully at Bendigo. although mal is a short term "top up", he will effectively help us in the long rong.

I'm just glad nobody at EFC took my advice last May and got rid of either JJ,McVeigh or Mr Sunbury...we will need them this year.

Haha great call...:thumbsu:
we could understand where you were coming from though nobby. if we could get someone like an embley it would've been worth trading those fellows. but obviously we weren't ever going to get a player of the caliber of embley. in the end we have three experienced guys who look like they are set for a big year.

Bolton is a Hack - delisted , time to go Pevrille, Camporeale, Laycock, Jason Johnson, Heffernan look lets get serious everyone if the bombers are to win there 17th Flag these guys will not feature in that side its time to swing the axe and delist these guys and blood the kids like houli, jedda, dyson, winderlich, gumbleton, davey these are the next crop that will feature in the bombers 17th flag not those has beens. Good luck Dons against the doggies.
so i guess if jason johnsonm won't be playing in our next premiership neither will fletch, lloydy, mal michael or scotty. i guess we should get rid of them too.

Agree with most except for JJ. He would be my blue print for sheer aggression for any of our young midfielders coming through.
i still think a fit campo has a lot to offer to our side. an injury free laycock could also be a good part of the team.
