"After an 11-day break, the squad was put through an exhausting 2.2km time-trial run and workout in a bid to put itself ahead of last year's pace.

Second-year player Kane Cornes the first player across the line in the run.

Fellow second-year player Domenic Cassisi and ruckman Barnaby French followed shortly after.

WA recruit Damon White was the most improved performer, along with Adam Kingsley, Scott Bassett and Darren Mead all showing a marked improvement in time."

Thank you Advertiser, and that all looks like good news.

Be interesting to see how we approach the pre-season comp this year. Last year Port were very clear about wanting to win it after the shocking 2000 season. I doubt there will be the same emphasis this year, but they'd better not start the season too slowly. Some other clubs will probably take a leaf out of Port's book and be up front about wanting to do well in the pre-season comp. I think Mark Thompson has already said as much. They would have seen the kick start it gave to Port's recovery in 2001.

Id love to see us blood Thurstans, Morgan, Cassisi and A Murray in the Ansett Cup, and wouldnt mind seeing Brooks or White in action either

Also looking forward to seeing Thurstans, Morgan etc in action. I cannot get to all Magpies matches so the only one of that group I have seen for a long time is Thurstans, and I was impressed enough to want to see him in the big league. Not expecting miracles though since it is a bit unfair to compare him to the likes of Darren Mead. Besides, it is now time for Thurstans and Morgan.

Have heard some good reports of Cassissi, and will be interested to see if Kouly and Michael Stevens have improved enough to warrant keeping. Wonder if Allan Murray could ever become another Cocky?

How's Brendon Lade coming along?

He definitely needs a break from the run of bad luck he's going through.

Nice.

Didn't he change his number to try to break his bad luck curse?

Yep, he's changed to number 5 and fellow ruckman Dean Brogan has taken up number 20.

Do you reckon the number is cursed?

Nah...but I hope not :(
He has been our only number 20 since the Power entered. I'm hoping all will be OK for him and future 20's!

Can we have less mention of the word "break" when we are talking about Brendon Lade please? ;) :(

I think Monty resumed training yesterday after having an extra week break along with other senior players. I've only been to one training session last week but that was during his time off so I'm not sure how he's doing.

Funny that - my late-teen daughter (who is very much NOT a Port supporter) is also very keen on Stuart Dew and Nick Stevens.

Anyway. Got to my first Power practice session ever, on Thursday at Norwood Oval. Seemed strange to see a number of Norwood guernsied guys running around with the Port guys. They looked very fit, and seemed to be running strongly and trying very hard, especially when Chocko was looking.

A few mistakes made, with a number being bawled out by Chocko. Especially silver?-rinsed and brown-as-a-berry Bowen Lockwood when he dropped a mark when on a lead from full-forward and under pressure from behind - would rather he got all conservative and serious for what could be his final year with us!

Jaxon Crabb didn't miss by foot, and is very solid in the body. Roger James also looked more solid than I remember. Damon White and Nick Jackman (#44 ??) seemed to have good skills. Matthew Primus had a low-key night.

Enjoyed that. Looking forward to the year!

Send Michael Stevens next season if ya want to get rid of him. I am sure Pagan can turn him into a good player (a good player like his brother Anthony:))

I'd wager that after 3 years, Anthony Stevens would've shown something at any club he'd played at. Michael still needs to get his arse into gear.

If North want Michael Stevens that bad, I hope we take them to the cleaners come trade time.

Yeah, I can just see it now...

Pagan: We want Michael Stevens.
Snowdon: Oh, ok. Well, you'll have to give up a lot to get him, mate.

Pagan: He's been at your club 4 years, played less than 10 games, and wants to play at North Melbourne. He'll also enter the draft in which case you'll get nothing.
Snowdon: Yeah, well...

Pagan: I'll give you pick #73.
Snowdon: Done.

Has anyone been to training recently? I am in Melbourne, so can't get down there, but would love to know how the boys are going. Has there been any significant changes in body shape of any of the players from last season? How far along are the two new big boys? And of course, the burning question...how's Tredders? Hope he and Chad have been having plenty of shots over the summer!
Would appreciate any info!

Thanks

Heh, got a phonecall from my Mum who went to training yesterday, so I'll pass on my 2nd hand info.

Cain Ackland is in great form - picked the ball up off the ground (ala Russell Ebert, a casual grab) took two steps and goaled.
Koulouriotis has grown again - trained well.
Lockwood is training well.
Jordan Barham has big shoulders and should have the body strength to play ok.
Allan Murray is really big.
Stuart Dew is having trouble with weight.
Brendan Lade is running his arse off.
Josh Francou has lost more hair.
Damien Hardwick is taller than she expected.
Che has the best tan
Didn't see Scott Bassett - injured?
Derek Murray got yelled at a bit for not training hard enough.
Didn't see Jared Poulton

Oh, and apparently Darel Hart reckons Damon White is ready to play - right now.

Check out this training update on the Port website (http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/News_Detail.asp?NewsID=979).

Interesting to read about Barham...looks like we might have to thank Collingwood for letting another good player slip past them (Barham, Crabb and McKenzie all trained at Collingwood pre-rookie draft).

If Cassisi can come in on that wing and play well from day 1....that'll be very, very nice :)

Also heard a rumor that Mark Williams has told Chris Hall that he'll be playing in the first Wiz cup game. Could be good.

Chris Hall is a very talented player who will be an asset to our club this year i reckon. He should be able to cement himself in our side the next few years...and he is bloody huge muscle wise.

I hope Cassisi gets himself on that wing!!

Re J Barham, the good news is he CAN mark the ball...the bad news is his kicking style is a shocker...
Yeah, he kicked 6 goals in the TAC G.F....they were all from 25 metres or less...
Have a look at him at training and you'll see what i mean...

That's why the Pies went for Davidson instead...can mark and roost 'em from 60 out...

If he was any good, the Pies wouda picked him up (nephew of the great ricky barham)...

Good luck J.B.

You'll need it...

What, like when they picked James Wasley the pick before Nick Stevens?

Or Shane Wakelin the pick before Domenic Cassisi?

Heh.

Didn't hear anything about Tredders, which probably means he's going OK. Same with Monty.

I believe Tredrea didn't play in the last internal trial, but he will have a run in the next one.
