BigFooty Medal Report
May 17, 2006

The BigFooty Medal, in its first year of operation has had success early on with no dilemmas as yet, after 7 rounds into the season. It has run smooth and I have found that it has been quite simple to manage and run throughout the weeks, and it is now, probably in its best and final form after several developments through the week. The setup is effective for viewing now, with minor changes from the earlier weeks, and my own process of organising all voters is also no real hassle, with a reminder set on the morning of deadline.

It had looked like an instant success as soon as I decided to set up the, so called, ‘proposal’, and within only 24 hours, 90% of discussed limited voters had signed up and been keen on getting to start the seasons voting. The best thing about the final voters recognised, was that most are well-known users of BigFooty and well-known for their good work. I set-up a trial during week one of the NAB Pre-Season Cup, and it was as good as expected, and results showed more than 50% voted. It gave myself an idea on what was needed to be done, and gave me experience in my own ways of processing the idea.

Over the weeks, suggestions have come up about the Medal, and have worked well. I introduced, on top of the BigFooty Medal, the BigFooty Emerging Star award, with that being very similar to the NAB AFL Rising Star award. It has worked in tandem with the BigFooty Medal on a weekly basis.

The biggest thing I thought of this success was getting its own sub-forum from the Gameday Board. It is more organised that way, and is there for easier access and quick viewing. Not only thanks to Adrian for doing that, but he has also said there will be rewards for consistent voters and also, a slight reward to the player voted as the BigFooty Medallist. From there, the board has taken some form. We have stickied threads which show information on the award and what it is all about, which helps people who can’t be involved internally in the voting; however there is plenty of interest shown from the outside.

So far, I would like to thank all voters for doing there job each week without a hassle, and also a thanks to everyone supporting the idea, and you are the reason why this innovation has gone so far, and so well, and still continuing to get better.

Thanks,
Michael Robinson, (Lonie_from_50)
