We all know Pearce is our fastest, but after that, who are they?and in what order?

pettigrew, salopek, ezard?, peter and shaun burgoyne.... i'm guessing, but that wasn't in order as i'm not too sure

On the weekend was the first time I noticed how bloody fast Surjan is, he is one of our fastest for sure. Salopek is FAR from quick...

Stewie Dew and Matt Bishop can get around...

How someone nominated Salopek Il never know. I reackon Im comofortably quicker than he is ..

it would be IMO - Pearce - S Burg - P Burg - Surjan/Pettigrew - Tredrea/Motlop/Bishop

I know one thing that's quick ... how quickly Gavin Wanganeen has been forgotten ... ;)

Pearce
S Burgoyne
P Burgoyne
Surjan
Pettigrew

I recall reading somewhere that Surjan and Pettigrew competed against each other in athletics in WA and were fairly even. Googled up some links to Athletics Australia on these two but the documents are no longer there.

Bishop used to have some pace but unfortunately he is currently a mere shadow of the 2004 vintage Bish.

The Surjan I saw seemed entirely unwilling to back himself to outrun a vaguely nearby opponent down the outer wing a couple of times. This could be a confidence issue, but gee I was disappointed. If he's not going to have a burst when he's able, then what use is pace?

Ezard hasn't looked quick in the SANFL, he doesn't appear to have too much burst speed. He's right 'ard tho ;)

Yes, I think we did see differently because on a few occasions I saw him mark the ball somewhere in the midfield area and run (and run fast at that ;) ) through the corridor and pump it long to the forwards.

I'd say thats a confidence thing. Hasn't played much AFL, so isnt ENTIRELY sure how fast the rest are, and also, if for some reason he did get caught, he would get dragged. He got dragged for slipping once last year, and subsequently dropped from the team, he now has it in his mind , that any mistake will get him dragged.

Salopek was said to have run 100m in 11seconds. Thats very quick.

Bish is no longer quick, i don't know who mentioned Tredrea? but surely he cant be in our top 5 for speed.

Wangas is reasonably quick, but nowhere near as quick as before.

Motlop, i havent realy seen run too hard, so not sure how quick he is.

I think ud be surprised with tredders - hes pretty sharp off the mark. I spose you need to clarify the topic coz i reckon over 10 metres tredders would be in the top 5

If true that surprises the hell out of me - that'd be Aaron Davey territory.

As puzzling as Luke Jericho having run in the Bay-Sheffield and supposedly defeating greased lightning in a matchrace - but on the footy field he looks like he's running on a treadmill positioned on the side of a hill.

If both men are really that fast, when the hell do we get to see it?

its amazing that someone can be so quick off a footy field yet look so slow on it. Jericho a good example. If That time is true by salopek same goes with him but i do think hes not naturally quick..

Slower blokes can look quick with their clever movement and quick minds - i.e Mitchell / Harvey / West

I don't want to limit it, so i guess there could be two topics within one

one for 20m

and one for say 100m

One hundred metres is not really relevant to football.

There are too many determinants of how fast players run during matches:
reaction time, courage, confidence, need to slow down for decision making ( ), hunger.

Needless to say give me a Danyle Pearce or Shaun Burgoyne who have the courage to run straight when they have the ball or see it in front of them, any day. Even Peter Walsh and Michael Wilson who let their momentum carry them forward will always look faster than players who prop and turn around before moving.

Surjan did ok last week - he got in for some second and third efforts at contests which involved him making up ground.
He still hasn't looked like a player really willing to back himself when he has the ball or can get it and bolt, though.

How about in the SANFL? Being in perth, i never see the sanfl games... If he does run with the ball in the sanfl, which i suspect he does, then i woud definatately put it down to confidence.

He's also not afraid to throw himself around, even though there's not alot of him
