Gavin looked like he re-injured his calf. Hopefully they will let it heal properly before he comes back. But maybe he has played his final game for the Power.

Yes. Gavin has already said this is his last season in footy. He nearly retired after last season.

Sorry guys, just saw on Channel 9 news that Gavin hurt his knee, it wasn't his calf. The way he pulled up and limped off, I thought it was his calf, obviously I was wrong.

Long term injury list. Promote Looby. He looks another likely accountable medium sized defender. Suddenly we have three possibles for that role.
how did Looby go?? anyone catch the game?

Good size, nice mover, good speed, thumping kick. Wouldn't have had many touches but did a job on a couple of opponents. Mind u the Magpies were so dominant after half time it was a bit hard to gauge. But he looked the type that with a bit of confidence once he picks up the pace of league footy, he could be quite handy.

I love Gav and would never say a bad word about a guy who kicked 4 goals in the last half of the 2004 GF. But I think it is becoming very clear that Mark Williams make a mistake keeping him and Francou on for an additional year, rather than Brett Montgomery. At least Monty is playing.
Also, the trade of Motlop for #14 is likely to prove a disaster. I know it is early days, but Motlop looks hopeless. Perhaps we should have kept Byron Pickett and not bothered about Motlop. While he was just as frustrating on occasions, at least we all knew there was the prospect that he would play well. At the moment, that cannot be said about Motlop. Our need was for a decent midfielder (or 2 or 3) rather than an inconsistent and injury prone forward pocket goal sneak.
Anyhow, when Gav does get back, lets play him in the Power side rather than in the SANFL. The season is fast fading away, and the way we are going, a half fit Gav for a half a game in the forward line, is not that bad of an option.

It's early days, but I think it is valid to ask the questions about keeping Gav, Francou on the list and acquiring Motlop and Lonie, but I am less regretful about moving on Byron and Monty.
Right now, I would have preferred us to have kept all of our draft picks (perhaps pick up an extra for the Picket deal) and have invested in more youth from the draft.
As others have said, I hope at the end of this year, we don't look so much for the quick fix but rather for the longterm good - that means acquiring draft picks not giving them away for anything less than an out-and-out consistent, trouble-free star. We missed the boat by giving away pick 14, whereas the year before we did good in acquiring and holding onto the picks that got us Thomson and Willits.

Gotta agree with both your points.
& i reckon Gavin would also.

8 weeks and I'd say we'd see Gav. for one last AFL game - our last home game. 8 weeks = round 15 or 16, 3 or 4 weeks to get back to match fit in the SANFL. Just in time for a send-off game.
From what we knew last year, Gavin playing on one more year wasn't an overly risky bet. It was always going to be in the pinch-hitting role. That he's had probably his worst season for injuries wasn't to be seen.
As for Motlop, I didn't want us burning that high a pick on a forward at trade week and unfortunately so far, that's been vindicated. If we burn picks this year on fringe players, in what common consensus says is the best draft ever, then we aren't going to see a flag till at least 2012.
