Under the radar again! They take the press, they take the plaudits, they take the expectation, they take the pressure.
Someone on the main board called us "the stealth bomber of the AFL". I like it. I'm thinking of putting it in my sig, but noone will notice.

Would say I love the way we fly under the radar, but part of me doesn't. I'd rather see Sydney receiving all the accolades. On the basis of the last 4 weeks, we are a much more dominant side than we were last year. We've not really looked like losing any of the games, whereas last year we had to scrap out each game - although we did a fine job of that.

I think that we are actually dominating sides this year compared to last year as well. The media will eventually pick up on this. In particular I like the way our midfield has gone from crusing at the start to just slip into a higher gear. Malceski and McVeigh have added speed and skill to the team vs last year.
The media unforunately will jump on board once we beat the Pies.

I agree its great but at the same time can be very frustrating especially when the melbourne media is jut so bias towards the vic teams.
Last week we won over a team who had most of their team missing and most of the focus was on richmond, we win in what was a salivating game against the dogs, yet they still concentrate on the pies and all those useless stats which seem to make collingwood supporters feel special. You know the most people at a game, the most possesions etc etc. And how they beat a good side in geelong. I mean a good side? Come on geelong are a rabble.
And yesterday...the way the tigers played was hailed by a few media pundits down here as a coaching masterstroke. Yet when we play that style of game we are heavily criticised by all and sundry.
And the thing is, it will never stop down here un til the day the AFL is moved elsewhere.

Collingwood will always get more press than the swans in vic because the pies sell papers. It has nothing to do with being biased.

I understand that, but its not just Collingwood. I guess it comes with the market BUT at least give us something, anything I don't care but at least some news.
I guess in this day and age i shouldnt complain b/c i get all the news items online, but sometimes when i am having brekky and i scan all the papers i get frustrated, same as in the broadcast news service. I stopped watching now.

The non existent coverage the swans get in melbourne has always frustrated me but its just one of those things. We have to wait to finals times when all the other teams drop off - then we get a bit of recognition :D

Someone on the main board called us "the stealth bomber of the AFL". I like it. And there's a precedent for this being a happy omen. Adelaide at the start of 1998 weren't particularly fancied (by the standards of a reigning premier) to go back-to-back. They were even less fancied when they sat outside the 8 on 3-5 in the first half of the year. Even though they pummelled a lot of teams towards the end of the year and wound up with the highest % in the comp, they finished 5th after the minor round and wouldn't have been at the top of anyone's betting slip. Having battled through to reach the GF, they weren't fancied to win that one, either. They perhaps broke some kind of record by even flying under the radar in the GF- 6.15(51) to 4.3(27) at half-time wasn't because NM had a preponderance of rushed behinds.
I'm very happy for the Victorian press to keep ignoring us and focussing only on the tribulations of our opponents. We're allowed to win a few by 50-odd points, but please, not too many 20 goal thumpings or we'll start drawing attention to ourselves.
