Thought id do a review of a gig i went to last night titled the United States of Hate II.
The bands that played were: Apocalypse.com, Contrive, Death Boundaries, Earth, Chalice, Truth Corroded and The Wolves.
Apocalypse.com played first, and only played 5-6 songs. They are a new Adelaide metal band in the vain of Slipknot mixed with Skinlab. They go nuts on stage and played a pretty tight set.
Next was Contrive from Melbourne.....i missed half their set due to getting food with friends at Mcdonalds, but caught the last half of their set and they sounded pretty good.
Next was Death Boundaries...another Adelaide band that are very very good live. They play old school metal at its best....fantastic solo riffs, and bass riffs, and are very very good. They played for about 40 minutes and everyone loved em.
Next, we got ready for Earth, probably my favourite non-Adelaide metal band. These guys from Melbourne go off. Anyone that likes metal HAS to check these guys out. They had a new singer due to the old one leaving to spend time with his wife and new baby, and he fit in really well.
They played an awesome set, mixing songs from their old cd with their soon to be released 'The Bleeding Fields'. Awesome band with awesome songs and they are awesome blokes too!
Next was Chalice....i dunno what to think of them. Ive seen them a few times but they bore the crap outta me....and its almost blasphemous to put a slow opera like metal band like Chalice after a quick heavy metal moshy band like Earth.
They have a flute player, they play very very slow metal, and the chick singer sings in in almost opera like fashion. You cant do anything but stand there, arms crossed and watch...which nearly puts you to sleep. A mate summed it up perfectly when he said "They are cool...but boring".
Then came my personal faves Truth Corroded. They were awesome....nothing short of Brilliant. They played mostly songs off of their new cd Begin. The mosh was rough as hell, even up the front. Was wild. They are three times better live than on cd. They get the crowd going...and almost everyone in the place was moshing for them.
After being completly stuffed after that mosh, we decided to go outside for a break...we missed half of THe Wolves set but saw the last half. Its the first time ive seen them and they went off!! Sorta a mix between Slayer and Pantera...awesome frontman as well.
Was a great night in the end... today ive got a slight headache, ringing ears, ripped neck muscles and massive bruises on my knees due to the size of the stage and being up the front, my knees kept ramming into the edge of the stage.
Great night....and the metal heads from melbourne HAVE to check out Earth
