Now that our season is officially over, where do you want us to finish? Discuss :(
P.S This poll is only for Port supporters, thank you

I want us to play the young guys, but be competitive at the same time. The best we can hope for from now is another 4-6 wins later in the season when the younger blokes pick up a bit.
Hence I said 9-12th. Finals would be ridiculous. There are just no real signs that we are learning the lessons from the past few weeks.
Realism would have us finish bottom 3 but I'd like our youngsters to be involved in some stirring, character building wins this year.

It's not even a case of where we want to finish, we won't get off the bottom if we continue to get smashed by a weak side on our own home ground.

Finals are out for us this year.
I still find it amazing though that in the supposed premier competition in the land, one that rakes in the money in TV rights that you can so easily dismiss teams from finals so early in the season.
We must go for early draft picks now. I do not like to say it but Port must use the system to benefit the club.
We must find a replacement for Tredders in this years draft and for the rest of the year we must play the young ones. They must get experience this year so that we can have another tilt at the flag in 5 years.
At the end of the year there must be several retirements.

Yeah because a Tredrea replacement will just fall into our lap. We don't have one on our lsit now so how can we replace him with a non-exsistant player?

This is what I do not like about South Australian football. For years I have been told that Port supporters are feral. Well comments like this on our board prove that Crows fans are just as feral and in my experience a hell of a lot worse.

9-12th is going nowhere! i reckon if we end up with less than 5 wins we will get a pick 17 with our pick 2 as well.We wont win the spoon, carlton will. Lets get one of Gumbledon, Sellar, Hansen, Gibbs, and it will give us 3 top 20 picks as well

Realistically I really want to win the Grand Final :) But that ain't gunna happen. I would be disappointed if we didn't finish 9-12th. But after watching today that defiently aint gunna happen either. we will finish 13-15th :( :(

Pigs a##e !!!!! :D
Wooden spoon even if it means they get their grubby little hands on Gibbs.
I honestly cannot answer this question.
Fact is, as I have said many times, I do not care where we finish as long as we are going forwards.
At the moment we are not going forward with this :D:D:D:Ded policy of Choco where youngsters must play like champions or else they get dropped, yet at the same time totally out of form oldies can do as they please. :thumbsd:

Ladder positions are irrelevant at the moment.
Just wanna see a better brand of footy.
On current form, we're looking at a 5-17 or 6-16 finish and 15th spot.
As bad as an 8-14 season sounds, it's that far off at the moment, it's not funny.

Fair point, the way we are playing we could easily fail to lose this weeks game.
I guess we have Cartlon the week after to redeem ourselves should we win. :( :D

Who cares where we finish?
What I realistically want is for soft :D:D:D:D trucks to be dropped and quarantined from the rest of the squad.

I'd say actually looking like a football side is the first step. Then we can think about winning games and ladder positions. At the moment, if we continue how we are at the moment, we will finish last. No ifs, buts or maybes. Dead last.

Spot-on Macca. I have looked at the fixture list and there are only 2-3 games we are a realistic chance of winning: round 10 v Carlton; round 11 v Hawthorn and maybe round 16 v St Kilda (only because we love to spoil their party all the time and they have no clue how to beat us). That makes for a 4-5 wins season.
Based on what I have seen so far this season, I will settle for a priority pick - no point finishing 9-14 with 5-9 wins. To progress as a footy club, we have to take a big backward step and if that means sacrificing this season, so be it. I know some will argue its not the Port way rah rah rah, but I will argue that it IS the AFL way. This season is shot anyway.

I went 13-15th- We are no good, hello Super draft
at least we are playing the young ones, but at a huge cost. Its not their fault, they should have been given more of a run last year!!

No Priority picks this year remember
I thought it was 4 wins and under this year?
Still even on those criteria I don't see us getting one. We'll eek out 3 wins from somewhere.

4 wins or less, and you get a priority pick at the back end of the first round, more like pick 17-18 instead of the usual top top priority picks. I would still settle for that considering it is 2 top 20 picks before you even trade

Yeah but it's over two years now and your 12 wins from last year already pushed you over the 8 win limit. Odds are you'll still get a pick around 17 - 18 if you finish where some of you are predicting but you'll only have one pick in each round still bar trades.

I can't buy all this "figure out how many games you have to win to get a decent draft pick" stuff. As a supporter I want the best from my team each week, and I'd hope that was the Port way.
Our best is good enough for 9th to 12th. We should be capable of finishing with 8 or 9 wins. Move all remaining home games to Alberton to address the revenue shortfall and the loss of "home ground advantage".

Exactly hindsight is better than foresight isn't that what they say?
I look at our playing list as being 10-20 games behind in our youngsters development because the selectors/comittee/coaching staff played some of the footballers last year on reputation because they wanted us to make the finals, but what the team forgot was that just because you have made the finals the last few years that doesn't automatically make you an instant team that will be playing in finals. It takes a lot of hard work & commitment from a group of players to first make the finals then it takes even more commitment & hard work to reach the grand final & win & off course an ounce of luck does help.
The youngsters that we have got on our playing list at the moment is as good as any of the other teams in the comp, but it justs that our youngsters haven't got enough experience playing AFL games as other teams. They need time to gel together as well as getting as much gametime as possible for our future as i don't see our club being down the lower end of the premiership table for too long.

In answer to the question, I'd like a priority pick, but I wouldn't like to see them play for a priority pick, but the focus has to switch from 2006 finals to 2007 finals. Too early to say how many standouts there are and where we'll have to finish to get one
I went 13-15th option, but none are really what I wanted.
My option is the 'Play only players who are a realistic chance to be in our next premiership side, UNLESS they are playing well enough to be teaching said players on the field'.
That doesn't mean youth to the max., as we'd still have Lade, Burgoynes x 2, Cornes x 2, Tredrea, plus the 4 below.
The latter clause covers the likes of the three W's - Wakelin, Walsh and Wilson and Mahoney (to show that desperation is needed - even though he's been inconsistent as well), but NOT Bishop, Thurstans or Kingsley (the latter is doing ok, but not required as an on-field teacher).

The thread title is confusing. It should be either "Where do you realistically think Port will finish" or "Where do you want Port to finish".
Realistically I think we'll finish in the bottom four. I want us to finish top.
I don't want us to aim for a low finish but I do want us to have a really good look at our rookies and if that means finishing lower then so be it. However I think it's more likely that dumping older players who are past it and introducing untried but hungry youngsters will actually see us finish higher.
