Bruce Petering is coaching the Wimmera FL. A league legend for his contribution as a great player for Minyip and Minyip-Murtoa. Toohey Medallist and very respected bloke.
He has stated he wants a side capable of playing in a style based on the Western Bulldogs. High energy, plenty of run. Has picked a squad with a liberal sprinkling of youth to back up his desire for running types. Quite a few of the younger guys have had experience in the format at U/18 level.
Wimmera won Pool C in 2004 and was relegated from Pool B on percentage last year. The WFL selectors grasped the type of player needed for three lightning games over two days quicker than some other leagues. They will be competitive.

Bendigo seems to be plagued again by lack of people making themselves available and injuries to key players.

Seems to be like that in most leagues. CMFL is way off its best team on the field through injuries and players these days would rather the week off then play in such a tournament.

:( Bendigo is down on big men --- Pye (ex-CMFL, now Golden Square), Duff-Tytler (Gisborne), Hardinge (Sth. Bendigo) and Guy Marshall (Castlemaine) all out through injury. Duff-Tytler out for season, incidentally.
Coach -- Brett Fitzpatrick. Castlemaine champion and now member of VCFL board. Coached Bendigo in Pool C at Mt. Gambier last year -- 2 wins, 1 loss. The loss was to eventual Pool C champion Bellarine.
The loss came on the Sunday after many of the Bendigo players had been out on the town and in the cot (not alone) so not cherry ripe for the Sunday showdown between the 2 undefeated teams.
Captain - Luke Saunders. Gisborne captain and only Bendigo player in VCFL team which beat the Vic. Ammos last year. Gun half-foward and did an AFL pre-season summer before last.

Due to the recalcitrance of Football Geelong there was only two leagues in Pool B this year. Hampden and Mornington Peninsula Nepean were left after Bellarine were withdrawn and Ballarat was put back into Pool A to cover for the loss of Geelong.
The two remaining leagues played each other on the weekend in a traditional interleague fixture. Hampden won 20.13 (133) to MPNFL 14.10 (94). Hampden will now seek promotion to Pool A but I'm sure the MPNFL will resist demotion to Pool C.

So is there a Pool B next year??

I suppose that will depend on whether Football Geelong rejoins the fray and what the VCFL decides to do with them if they do. If I was in charge of the MPNFL I would argue that Bellarine should be relegated to Pool C ahead of my league as at least the MPNFL competed this year. Similarly if I was in charge of West Gippy Latrobe I would ask for Geelong to be kicked back to Pool B for not competing instead of being relegated from Pool A themselves.
Sticky situation for the VCFL cos I'm sure if they do relegate the Football Geelong leagues they'll just refuse to play again.

GRIMMETT -- didn't Football Geelong claim they lost 30 grand on the inter-league campaigns mounted by their 2 leagues in 2005, hence the withdrawal of both of them ??
Yesty, G., Bendigo led the Big W (Wimmera boys) 7.3 to 4.0 on the Number 2 oval at Barooga. Former Charlton boy Mattie Gretgrix (known by his teammates as the "G-Train", or more simply "G") bagged 2 of those 7 goals from CHF in a bright opening stanza.
Wimmera looked a bit better in the 2nd half, but Bendigo still managed another 8 goals. Marc Grieg was OK but the BFL boys said he's older then the 26 years printed in the guide.
Luke Rosa said afterwards he knew "all the Wimmera boys" in the opposing team. He went pretty well but the Gisborne boys Farrugia, Shane Davis, Michael Dillion were outstanding for Bendigo. Square's Jason Griffin was good also.
BTW, the No. 2 oval at Barooga is very rustic. Shades of Kamarooka where Northern United used to play in the BFL in the 80s.

Football Geelong has not exactly played a straight bat over this issue in my humble opinion Jock.
They played in the Pool A carnival when hosted by the GVFL in 2004 and the four leagues pooled their VCFL funds to help defray overall costs. Last season they hosted the Pool A carnival and did not offer to pool funds to help the other leagues I believe. Then this season they pull the pin.
This is an organisation that administers two major leagues, all netball in Geelong and junior football as well. How much money must all that generate, plus they are based in the second biggest city in the state. I know the expenses are large but if 'two bit district leagues', as the other Pool C leagues are described in the Bendigo thread, can find the money in their poorer socio-economic areas I'm astounded Football Geelong cannot.
Put bluntly, I think they are :D:D:D:D-weak and not doing the right thing by all of country football. Perhaps they should be declared metropolitan and the funding they receive from the VCFL for a whole range of issues could be shared out to the other member leagues.

;) Strong word getting about up in Cobram is that the Murray boys spent a big night in the "bottom" pub after their 2 Saturday games.
Didn't depart until 1 am Sunday. Maybe part explanation for their surprise loss to Central Murray in the 11 am Sunday game on the No. 1 oval.
Info comes from Cobram resident strongly tied up to local footy.
