with the 4 teams(yea, violet town, shepp east and dookie united) going into the picola footy league and kyabram footy league there win loss ratio sits at 20-6.
does this make the cgfl stronger than the other two leagues.

Interesting topic Big Tone, had this very conversation a fortnight ago and whilst it's hard to accurately rate the standards, it does in my opinion show that the VCFL made a big blue in not fully considering every possible avenue prior to pulling the pin on the CGFL.
Take out Benalla All Blacks' final 2 seasons, and a poor 2005 by VT and it would be fair to say that sides hardly ever went into games 100% certainties in what was a very competive little competition.
Shepp East should romp in the PDFL this year, and woulda won last season's CGFL title with the list they have this year. Dookie will contest finals, whilst Violet Town are more than competitive and Yea at full strength will go very close.
I sat in on a very emotional meeting at Alexandra last season and left knowing we were doomed, the VCFL rep was only there coz he had to be and didnt really take in one thing that was asked of them by the Yea, Alex and Thornton clubs.
Since early 2005 I was a big advocate in looking into some kind of reformation of a league similar to the old Waranga North East, but couldn't rally enough support meaning the idea never got the legs. My interest in the matter got my club at the time (Yea) in strife & I was asked by the club executive to tone down my sentiments as recommended to them by the VCFL area bloke in charge.
Geographically country footy is rooted, I live in Broadford and there must be close to 15 clubs within an hours drive, yet the local side play one (Heathcote). Country Footy needs an overhaul, with soaring living expenses, soon we'll see more clubs in strife.
Getting back to the question . . . . I do think the overall standard of the CGFL was better than the KDFL standard I followed 4-5 years ago, and what Ive seen in 2006.

where would you guys see the other three CGFL clubs namely Thornton/Eildon, Alexandra and Rumbalara sitting on either KDFL & PDFL ladders had they been playing?
I think Alexandra would be right behind Yea in the KDFL, Thornton would be middle of the pack. While it would be an all old CGFL teams Grand Final in the PDFL.

I think that Shepp has made a huge impact on the PDFL and Dookie have far from disgraced them selves, We were unfortunate enough to play Dookie after there tragedy and know they were running on a fair bit of emotion, but they came out after half time and blew us away where we are yet to face the likes of Shepp.
I’ve followed what Doona 2 has had to say on the restructure and have seen the first draft for the PDFL and CDFL restructure, and all I can say is that they need to do something and do it right! How are teams and players supposed to make commitments not knowing what is going on. If the VFCL are thinking something they should let us know and respect our opinions on all matters they raise.
I want Berrigan around for another 100 years, as the Berrigan Saint, not some merged identity because we can not attract or retain players because of a VCFL stuff up.
The VCFL has to realise the emotion that’s involved and that they are not playing with just footy teams they are playing with whole towns.

Certainly the restructure has hurt the southern clubs greatly with the loss of the relationship between Yea, Alexandra and Thronton Eildon. Personally it would have been far better for the 3 clubs to be able to stick together in the same league.
So far, Thornton Eildon have been doing really well since their entry into the YVMDFL Division 2 competition and Alexandra are slowly building momentum. From what I have heard both clubs have settled in well and enjoying the change in scenery. The YVMDFL and their member clubs have bent over backwards to make the transition as smooth as possible and that is a credit to the people involved in that competition.
I would think both of these former CGFL clubs should see finals action in 2006, how far both clubs go may depend on their depth which may be an issue at Thornton Eildon.

I truly hope that the fact that Thornton had to pull out of the thirds comp doesn't hamper the club down the track
