G’ Day Troops,
Some of you may consider this discussion miles too early considering we have only played 8 rounds, whilst for others it can’t come soon enough. Yes I’m talking about the traditional Carlton end of season List Rebalance! I have done plenty of research and ascertained where we are in reference to players out of contract and who has still time to run. I reckon I got most of them correct, but there are a few I’m not certain of. Assuming that we don’t delist any player that still has time to go on their contract, there is still a fairly large list of those OOC at seasons end.

9 - OOC (Out of Contract/Out of Chances end 2006) :p
Livingston
Davies
Longmuir
Chambers
Bryan
Prendergast
Bannister
Sporn
Koutoufidies

9 – Should Recontract (Contracted end 2006)
Russell
Blackwell
Fisher
Betts
Hartlett
Thornton
Houlihan
Wiggins
Raso

16 – Should Retain (Contracted end 2007)
Walker
Murphy
Kennedy
Whitnall
Saddington
Mclaren
French
Lappin
Teague
Bower
Stevens
De luca
Scotland
Edwards
Carazzo
S o'halpin

2 – Should Retain (Contracted end 2008)
Fevola
Waite

3 – Should Retain (Not sure of Contract Status)
Simpson
Mcgrath
Bentick

2 - Rookies (2nd year - Needs to be elevated or delisted)
Batson
Smith

1 - Rookies International (2nd year - Can be retained or elevated)
A o'halpin

2 - Rookies (1st year – Can be retained or elevated)
Jackson
Flint

44 - Total 2006 List

Assuming that most of the Retirements/Delistings/Trades come from the 9 on the OOC List and possibly some from other lists above then it is possible that we could actually cull as many as 12 players, but I think that it is likely that the figure will be around 10. Possibly one or more of the Rookies will go as well and a few further down in other lists are in danger. Anyway the next 14 rounds will give us all a better idea of who is still going to be wearing Navy Blue in 2007. What think you?

Why on earth did Saddington and McLaren get three-year contracts; neither are exactly world-beaters.

I think you are right that it could be a big cull at the end of the year; even some with 2007 contracts could be vulnerable if we had the money to pay them out eg de luca, Teague

Well spotted Nich. I got em in the wrong list. My info is they are both on 2 year deals finishing in 2007, but not certain. I will edit it now.

how has Bryan been travelling? if they get him super fit (even give him a rest from playing and just work on running endurance) he could be of use couldnt he? any chance we could convert him to play on big name forwards?

I completely agree. He certainly has the height and the build to play in our backline and I don't think he could do any worse than what we currently have back there (ie. Thornton and Saddington). At this point we have nothing to lose (cause we have already lost it!) so why not gicve him a shot. I thought he showed real potential last year.
