Good to see Barnaby back, and I'm sure he is still part of our plans moving forward for a little while yet.

But with Livvo, Sporn, Teague & particularly Prenda (serial gimp) coming back into the side, (not to forget Wiggo's recent elevation) will they be given ample opportunity to either cut the mustard or will they eventualy be put back finish their Carlton careers as Bullants ?

I'm sure the Kids will gradually get their chance as 1 by one (or perhaps in a bunch) Prenda & co. make their way back to the ressies.

I really hope that Livvo & Teague can really lift and produce, I'm sure Barnaby will come good.

I reckon Livo was harshly done by to be dropped in the first place, really thought he showed a lot against Neitz and Melbourne.

Hope he can do well this week, I feel with him in the side it helps out greatly. Free's Lance up more.

Yeah agree re Livo, I think he needs to be persisted with for the rest of the year (unless he is playing absolutely shocking) and at the end of the year a decision made on him. He is never going to be a star but he is a #4 draft pick and you would think he has some talent that we should be able to harness.

I am suprised that Teague is back in the team. I admire his courage but he just doesnt have the pace to play at the highest level. I would much rather have brought in Russell to get more experience into his game.

Very suprised that Eddie Betts has been dropped. I hope this is only so he can get a full game under his belt as I think he definately adds a fair bit of defensive pressure to our team....

i agree with lance up forward, surely dennis must see this? with no fish and waite, we cant keep relying on the great man in the goal square to be the only focal point again:rolleyes:

No to be honest, I think Bannister has had plenty of opportunities but just doesnt have the extra something required to be a good consistent AFL player. I would have liked to see us put Russell in the team. In my view he is part of our future and he has performed relatively well in the games played this year (considering the time he has been given on the ground).

I am also a little dissapointed that Betts has been dropped as I think he has been far from our worst player this year and adds alot of defensive pressure in the midfield and forward.

yeah fair point on russel, i was dissapointed to see him dropped so quick, as for eddy, your right on his mid/forward pressure, but i just feel he needs to get his hands on the sherrin again under some pressure, but more than happy with his work ethic off the ball, he wont be out for long though.

I agree with much of what is being said on this thread. Eddie should be played in the 1's but with much more game time in the middle, especially for the centre square stuff. He has an innate ability to find the ball in these instances. Is also like a little terrier in his persistence, something that we are badly lacking in.

As for the defenders like Livo, Teague and Bannister it is so hard. Bannister seems to have the pace and ability but not much mental strength. The other 2 are so honest and so hard working but lack Bannister's ability and pace. Hopefully Hartlett and Bower will come in later in the season and provide passion and ability.

I certainly can agree that he has some magic when it comes to finding the ball, but he seems to be having trouble walking away with the ball and ends up being tackled by 2 or 3 or 4 players. Maybe a brief stay at the lower level can give him the chance to play under less pressure and get some confidence back.

I'm glad to see Prenda back, he was really showing something a few years back and I think he could (but probably won't) be in our best 5-8 players. Good luck Ian.

Bower had a clean out of his knee the week after his BOG performance.

He'll be out for 4-6 weeks.

I think the obvious thing to come out of this weeks changes is that it seems that the snr. blokes are being given an opportunity to show their wares.

I wonder if this is a result of the early week meeting with players & coaching staff ?

It certainly seems to go against the selection process so far this year that has really moved to ensure that the younger blokes get selected & get a go.

The harsh facts are that several of these changes have proven over time they are not up to it, I too am suprised that Eddy & J.R. havent been given an opportunity this week.

ps -
I cried tears of joy when De Luca was dropped........ only to see Prenda come in !
Why ?
His skills are absolutely disgraceful.

Can anyone forget the kick after the siren at the Dome from about 30 meters out ?

Certainly is dissapointing re Bower however the injuries may be a blessing in disguise for 2 reasons:

1). It gives us a chance to play blokes that wouldnt normally be in the seniors (except Bower of course). This way we can assess whether they are worth keeping or not.

2). It will mean that we will not win too many games and will likely finish bottom 2, with an excuse to go with it. It will also result in us picking up another one of the best 2 kids in the country...

think it is clear with the season gone it is time to look ahead remember this years draft is going to be a ripper time to ask the hard questions on a few players all the ins this week are playing for their careers french great player for the blues but age catching up on him livingston held on to in the hope that he will become a star no more hoping luke back it up or move on prendergast sporn have had many chances on their last chances and teague hard player plays tough but has the speed of a turtle can only play last line of defence all our ins point to one thing they are all defence players players which tells you the big red lance will return the centre half forward turn it on big fella and make it impossible to move you away from there again

Was this an injury he sustained at VFL level or was it an existing injury?

I think all these blokes that have been brought in, with the exception of French, won't be on our list next season. This may well be, or certainly one of, their last chance(s) to prove that they are worth persevering with for a little while longer, I can't see it happening but they've been given a chance to save themselves. Once delisted we'll be able to load up on kids in the draft this year as compared to last when we didn't delist players as the draft wasn't deep enough and kept them for this year.

Pagan pretty much said that in the press conference last week- that they want to give everyone on the list a go and can't afford to give up on anyone that might have a future. Wiggins has shown some improvement since getting his chance, so Prender, Sporn, Teague & Livo will need to show something pretty quickly if they want to stay at the club.
