One for all the armchair coaches out there.

If you were an opposition coach, how would you set up the game against Adelaide? Go ultra-possession, Richmond style? Bomb it in long, old-school? Look to exploit a particular weakness?

Here's some ways I would look to win against us at the moment.

Leave the resting ruckman in the goalsquare. Have the in-play ruckman push to about 40 metres out as often as possible.
If I had a designated long bomber (a Lonie, or a Dew), look to use them in a play on situation for any marks 60-70 out. Adelaide tends to allow the shot from 50
If Kris Massie goes upfield when we attack, use his man on the way back. He's probably the slowest of the defenders at getting back into position.
Niggle Scott Thompson.

I have a clear strategy in mind (based on how we have been fustrated in parts of the Port & Tigers game), but would prefer not to make it public.

Heavy tag on Tyson Edwards.
Place best defender on Mark Ricciuto, not a part-timer.
Attempt to drag Shirley away from the engine room early - use his opponent in forward pocket/HFF.
Make McLeod accountable regardless of where he is - tight tag, lots of niggle. Picture Crouch on Aker.
If possible, take Ken McGregor - Adelaide's best contested mark - away from the goalsquare and further up the ground where he won't hurt you.
Encourage maximum effort from forwards to pressure Adelaide's secondary engine room in transition - Johncock, Doughty, Massie, Hart, Bassett, Rutten, McLeod cannot be allowed to freely create attack after attack on the rebound.

Let's hope opposition coaches are not reading these words of wisdom or we are all doomed!

You think your strategy could be the Crows ultimate undoing ?

Better out now than later. This way we can work on it. Wouldn't want someone to think up the same plan come finals time. We won't know what hit us!

Fair list. I'd also try to move Rutten as far away from goal as possible as he can get lost at times as he moves further up the ground. Rutten kills people if they try wrestle with him closer to goal.

Rutten has played extremely well up the ground. Killed Tredders on the wing for one. Don't look lost to me when he's led away from the goalsquare.

mirroring what we do has been effective for a few teams so far.
the second qtr thing has been more about confusing our players by rotating almost constantly.
problem with both of these is that they run out of legs to match us.

the best defence is offence so if i were coaching against us i would play proactive attacking plans (any 3 of 20 of em) say, bow and arrow with switches to great wall, then corridor.

the crows flourish when teams try and get defensive as most of what we do is specific to the opposition trying to stop us, so F that, make them chase instead.

but if 2 teams are both playing all out attack it almost certainly comes down to who is the most skillful.

As beartoo said, I don't think forcing him to play up the ground would phase him - but repeatedly doubling back would hurt Truck a bit though. Choco played right into his hands by not exploiting Tredrea's (2005) fitness base and leaving him on the wing, which meant the usual one-on-one contests Rutten thrives still occurred, but were merely 100-odd metres away from his natural habitat.

Fevola did it with aplomb yesterday, just couldn't convert as well as he would've liked given the majority of his shots were on or beyond 50.

Ok, I didnt quite word it correctly and you guys jumped all over it :o

With Truck's turning circle and his lack of genuine speed, perhaps some hard leads up the ground and then doubling back was the way to go.

Stand and wrestle is what you really dont want to do, whether it be 20m out or 100m out from goal.
