View Full Version : Scotch Vs Haileybury - Top Position Decider
The game before the redraw is by far the game of the season. It will feature the best two teams in the APS Haileybury and Scotch. What does everyone think about this game and what will be the crucial match ups.
I think Erikson FB at H.C on Jacobs from S.C will be big and the ruck contest will be another big one. I wonder who from Haileybury will man up on Smith and Rioli, but also who from Scotch will man up on Hill, Succuzzo, Beckwith, Collins, Francis, Comben!

Having seen both teams play , it will be good. Scotch are a much bigger side and have indigenous brilliance. HC are very even with every player being good. SC have a few fringe players. Injuries will be important. Will the HC boys be allowed to play TAC in the holidays.A couple of injuries would hurt HC as their 2's are ordinary.
Will be a massive game. With the likes of Smith, O'Shannessy, Rioli and Djekkura, those sorts of players near the middle and the fearsome forward line of Jacobs and Sherwen who liken themselves to the Lyon-Schwarz line up of the mid 90s for melbourne. It will be a superb match of scholarships v. free football talent.

They will not get belted by 100+ points. I predict a hard fought contest as it is at Scotch, and as they have school spirit, a decent crowd will turn out at the main. The only thing that will get HC over line is money.

Haileybury won't win by over 100 points, they will be lucky to win at all.
Seem to be evenly matched sides and will be good to see the game. Injuries will play a part, but with a Scotch forward line consisting of Rioli, Sherwen (18 goals in the past 3 games), Jacobs (5 goals, playing with broken finger) and others, they will be a good chance.
Haileybury with their $$$ will provide a good contest.

Mate post the ladder all you want but in a league where there are byes and not all teams have played the same amount of games the ladder is worked out by percentage win loss ratio. And think about it, there are 8 drawn rounds and each round 1 team has a bye suggesting that when the last 3 rounds are decided 3 teams will ahve played 1 more match than the rest. Meaning i imagine that the percentage system will be used.
According to that Scotch and Hailubury are equal first.
And if you do the math Scotch have a higher ratio of points for compared to points against. Obvioulsy doesnt technichally matter in this league.
Was just an observation.

Big woop mate, its clear that Haileybury have played far better teams and thumped them easily, we play St Kevins in a couple of weeks and i am predicting a 150 points smashing. Scotch get to play all the sh1t teams like wesley and Carey, but Haileybury dont, unfair, well it doesnt matter Haileybury just keep winning by an average of 12 goals(which is exactly the same as Scotch) except they havent played any duds.

mate get your facts right. Four years ago in year 7 there were only enough boys to fill 2 and a half teams. This year they can fill 3 healthy teams. So that says a lot about what u said that less boys were in too footy these days. Football is as healthy at scotch as it ever has been. If it wasn't for you buying all your players, you wouldn't even have a team fit enough to compete in the first division. Ur an absolute idiot/joke

Good luck though I hope Scotch does well against them and it is a good match. There has hardly been a close game all season in the APS. Forget about Haileybury. Perhaps people should look at what is happening in their own backyard and why their teams are not competitive.

Just saw the Haileybury game, after watching the Scotch game yesterday and believe that this match will be an awesome battle. Though i did not believe Scotch performed very well though, only beating Geelong Grammar who are a bottle of the ladder team by only 5 goals. Haileybury beats St Kevins by 130 odd points. A big thng will be if Scotchs full forward can produce with some goals as last time these two teams met Haileyburys full back Erikson held him goaless and he did not have any influence at all.
Is at Scotchs home ground which means they will have a big support base there, that may help them go stride by stride with Haileybury.
My tip:
Haileybury 13.12.90
Defeat
Scotch 11.10.76

Scotch had Smith, J.Rioli, Djekurra, Sheetz and Porter out for the GGS game which attributed to the lack of structure. Still a pretty average effort from Scotch but not a true indication of their skill at full strength.
Last year V Hailebury Jacobs was coming off sickness and it was his first game for about a month so hopefully this year he will be able to perform better having scored around 20 from his last 3 including 8 against Xavier.

Yeh will be a ripper of the game, would have to say that Scotch's players will need to be at the top of their game and will need their best 3 or players to absolutely have ripper days.
Yeh and i agree with Footsteps hopefully both teams have their full lists in so that when the team wins the other team cant complain, like Scotch did last year.

To say 'we played so badly and we only lost by X amount of points' is a stupid argument IMO. You'll find that teams play badly due to the pressure and skill of the opposition, which makes them look bad, therefore people come up saying how badly the losing team played, but it's not a valid point to put forward as far as I'm concerned.

Haileybury had 6 players out today.
A team is always going to have their injuries, and if that's what it comes down to scotch was missing 5!
It's pretty poor that you haileybury boys can't cop it on the chin that you were beaten by a better side.
3 of the 5 goals were gimmes, and your skills were atrocious, apart from late in the 3rd Scotch was dominating game play. Haileybury was definately not the side we had come to expect. They should count themselves lucky the scoreline was as flattering as it was considering scotch's domination.

Can i just say what an arrogant and disgraceful bunch of parents you have at Scotch. Who ever the parent was in the green jacket in the grandstand, should be ashamed. And to say no spirit, the game was one by the barest of margins in aweful conditions. Things just fell Scotches way in the end. If Haileybury played that bad in these conditions yet only lost by a few points i think to look at it from a premiership perspective, Scotch are a long way off Number 1 from Haileybury got a fair dinkum sat on with about 3 mins remaining in the goal square should have been a free but did anyone complain, no. I wouldn't open the trpohy cabinet just yet. Haileybury will have their full side back last game and if it is dry their talls uo forward will be a real test. As for the idiot bit.......learn to be a good winner......the best player on the day and the difference in the match was a Scotch player on a scholarship! Future posts talk about the good players and not crap!

The game actually did show who was the better team, as the better team is the team that wins.
It showed that Haileybury are unwilling to put their head over the footy and play hard contested footy. They were beaten by a more disciplined, fierce, spirited and full-fee paying unit.

Free kicks in front of goal which resulted in goals for Haileybury were regularly seen while Scotch was dogged in the free kick tally. The fact of the matter is that Scotch beat Haileybury, therefore they are the better team. Enough said.
I'm curious to know what happens to the Haileybury boys now, can their scholarships be revoked? Will they attempt to purchase new players now, or maybe even the scotch side? Hard to know whether they have any money left in the ol bank account for any more new expenditures. Up sh.it creek without a paddle!

A long way off who?? They've beaten everyone they've played.
The game actually did show who was the better team, as the better team is the team that wins.
It showed that Haileybury are unwilling to put their head over the footy and play hard contested footy. They were beaten by a more disciplined, fierce, spirited and full-fee paying unit.
Full fee paying unit. Check your stats to see how many are full fee you twat. Both sides put their head over the ball and played hard football. Your post match celebration was a little premature and will bite you in the ass big time

Who was that? Scott Sherwen would get my best on ground easily and he's been a full-fee paying student at scotch since year 7. NBR 10 Djerrkura was the difference. He set up most of the Scotch goals. He was terrific.

Why don't you concentrate on how good your side were against another side. Or do you like to win against poor opposition!
Where was your class last year, you won against a lacklustre scotch and celebrated in the exact same fashion. Scotch deserves the right to celebrate. Their hard work throughout the year conquered your checkbook signing.

Well Scotch won and good luck to them
There was nothing in the teams at all, but on day when it wasn't won on skill aloan Scotch was the better team
But we will meet again in the last game of the year to see who will win the APS and this game will tell us a lot more and hoping the weather is better
Scotch have some very good players Djerrkura,Njoku,Rioli,Sherwen, Graham etc and are a better side than I thought you would be
We had some players that didn’t play as well as they can and where beaten on the day
But Andrews,Beckwith,Gilder keeped us in the game
So when we meet again lets see what happens then
But to come out and say that Hailebury are crap is a joke and just shows what kind of school you are ............
Watching it from the stand I thought Haileybury where still going to win after Gilder kicked the last goal
But as I have already said Scotch played the better wet weather football
As for the fans in the stand they cry about every umpiring decision what a joke
the umps did a good job for the conditions
well said blueboys, you have gained abit of respect with that report of the game

I think we can all safely say you can't blame a school on what people say on this forum.
Mabye you should ask the players what they think. They are the ones actually playing the game.

scotch played well on the weekend, but watch wat you all write for the next three weeks coz it isnt over yet. last year haileybury were written off after losing to melbourne and still won it, seems like the final system has worked well for us. should be an awesome game at scotch in a few weeks with two very good sides going at it, hopefully both at full strength. scotch have shown they are the goods in the wet so hopefully the rain clouds hold off on the day, but im predicting a close game.
Yep Scotchs celebrations were defintely over the top, this game was purely just a season game and they acted as if they had won the premiership. Well let me just tell you there are 3 games left and a 3 point victory means absolutely nothing. Yes if they had of won by 20 - 30 points then u could say they are clearly better, but 3 points means sh1t all now. Haileybury were dissapointing, but they still only lost by 3 points, They only need to play a little bit above average and they will smash Scotch. Your crowd were abusive and had bad sportsmanship, that isnt spirit its just downright stupid.
Three weeks from now is all that matters boys and i can tell ya that it will be a completely different result next time.

In what way?
To me, they celebrated the same after every win this year.

Assuming Scotch played to their full potential....

I'm proud of a school that can actually pull a crowd and generally it was well behaved. I am not ashamed of any person who calls out 'abusive' things during games as that is what Haileybury have/should have come to expect. Nor is the school ashamed as they would have made an effort to stop it.

Huge statement coming from a person who reckons: Scotch only have 2 or 3 guns...there is no competition, we have blokes on the bench u would have starting in key positions on the ground

Come'on, we've all followed football long enough to know that a team will rarely have their best 22 on the ground for every single match. Can you say that St.Kilda is the best team in the AFL just because of their list and if they had Hamill, Hayes and Koschitzke all in and firing they'd win the premiership? You can't because it's just the nature of the game - you can only play with what you've got on the day. So leave that excuse out.

Bad Sportsmanship is clearly shone in 3/4 of your side. Brad Gilder, although a terrific player is one/ if not the most unsportsmanlike player in the APS. And the crowd had every right to abuse the way he recieved most of his goals.
Pathetic for Hail posters to be saying we played poorly and all other crap. You lost, cop it! In 3 weeks time you have a chance to turn the tables. I personally hope you don't. It would be great to see the "cheque books" lose.
It would be very funny. If i gave the freebies you guys do to a bunch of "non Haileybury" Haileyburnians and then couldn't even beat a bunch of full paying APS schools. We'll it would be tragic.
If you do win, it will not mean much. It is not like the players kids will go to the school. Their dads didn't. No tradition, no fabric! If Scotch win, fantastic!, A generation of fathers and fathers before them will be wrapped. If Hail win - Whoppdy do! Bad school. Poor policy to give scholarships out like lunches! Hollow and Shallow!

The result shows nothing at all.
You've lost the plot mate.
Its all good boys, u can bag Haileybury all ya like, it doesnt matter cause its over now, that game means nothing now. The only thing it proved are Scotch were more determined to win on the day
The next three weeks mean everything, because if you lose once in this round robin system then u are basically gone, unless fortune favours you big time.
Now to chooker:

Haha chooker u r so full of sh1t mate, there is no way after every win that you have more than 40 school kids and parents spriting onto the ground to hug and celebrate with players, players hugging each other in jubilation, stacks on group hugs. That is a joke. You only celebrate like that when u have won the Grand Final!
And too say u r proud of a school who has supporters who show bad sportsmanship by abusing other teams players. Well i would be embarrased, i would prefer to have no supporters at all, rather than a whole heap u just constantly show their lack of maturity by screaming out obscenities!
they can celebrate however they want as long as they play good footy

well they can stop celebrating because haileybury aree going to win the premiership, just wait and see. then every1 who has been bagging them can spend another year thinking about what could of been because their school doesnt have the smarts to use all the resources available to them and dont try with the honour crap, coz every aps school has some form of scholarships.
Yep gotta agree footsteps! Every school has scholarships, Caulfields whole athletic team is on Scholarships, Scotch have quite a few scholarships including the aboriginal boys and so do Melbourne, Brighton and Xavier and Geelong College. So dont play that bullsh1t about cheating boys, we all know that that last game will decide the premiership and we all know that Haileybury will win.
