View Full Version : Australia A vs NZ last night

Well Australia A basically batted NZ out of the game.

The top five batsman all did well, but Lehman (sp?) was the only one who reached 50. Ryan Campbell was also a standout and has to be next in line to be 1 day keeper.

Anyway Darren Lehman batted well towards the end of the innings as he always does and I have to say I think he should be in the one day team maybe at Symonds expense if he doesn't perform in the VB Series.

Speaking of which, this is who I would like to see Australia play.

Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
M. Waugh
S. Waugh
Bevan
Harvey
Symonds
Warne
Lee
McGrath

There's only 2 fast bowlers there but if one of the all rounders (Symonds, Harvey, Bevan) doesn't perform then they have a couple of options.

Either put another one in there (Shane Lee, Darren Lehman) or put another fast bowler in there (Gillespe bowled well last night, Bichel, Bracken would bring variation etc).

But I'm not sure if Bevan even bowls any more. If not maybe an all rounder would be more useful in his position.

But then again if you put Lehman in at Bevan's expense then with Lehman and Symonds smashing it out of the park (or trying to) wouldn't you think the team would be more prone to collapse.

Even though Lee and Warne have had good test summers you wouldn't want to be relying on them too much.

Useless discussion here but I don't mind, because its cricket.

Can't believe they sent Australia A in to bat when it was 37 degrees and something like 90 % humidity.

Bond only lasted 4 overs and from there AustA were always gonna get a huge total.

Nice to see Chris Cairns hit a few 6's though

cheers

It is going to be an interesting time for the selectors in the months ahead with regard to the Waugh twins. I think Malcom Conn was on the ball with his suggestion that if they want their careers prolonged then Mark should play only in the ODI's (his Test form is not up to scratch) & Steve only in the tests (as he struggling physically).

My ideal ODI team:
M Waugh
Gilchrist (c)
Ponting
Lehmann
Bevan
Martyn
Symonds
Harvey
Warne
Gillespie
McGrath

In the rest of the squad I would have Hayden (on his current form) & blood Watson & Williams (with the view to the World Cup).

Hey BSA they reckon Brendon MacCullum (sp?) is the goods, unlike Sinclair and Vincent who will only ever be ordinary at best.

Years away from his best, but the inside word is they are talking about the kid being in the same class as Martin Crowe/John Reid.

A dynamite fielder, don't be surprised if he is used as a specialist 12th man in the one-dayers.

Geez that's a bit tough on Lou Vincent, he scores a century in his first test against us and you reckons he doesn't ahev what it takes, but then again you're in a better position to judge his form, I agree with you about Matthew Sinclair, I think his footwork is ordinary and relies on strengh to score runs, but I was impreesed with what I saw of Vincent, so I think he'll hjave a good tour.

I heard that McMillan and Cairns hit some mega sixes, I heard that one Cairns six, went inbetween the gap of the Brisbane Lions social club and the old Clem Jones Stand (now the stand nearly all arond the ground) and out of the ground, geez what a hit just as good as his old man.

I forgot to mention the intention is to groom Brendon MacCullum as the WK to replace Parore.

Lou Vincent is the most overrated sportsman to come out of New Zealand since the 'Throwin' Samoan' David Tua.

1. He pushes to hard at the ball.

2. Is frequently still moving forward when playing at the ball (i.e. he is off balance)

3. For a top order batsman plays outside the V way too early.

4. Has a 1st class average of 30.

5. Has looked god awful against the Zims and Sri Lankans in OD and the Deshers in the tests.

He is young and has shown signs of improvement, but doesn't deserve his spot in the team.

As for Matthew Sinclair he is a flat track bully. The next Graeme Hick if ever I have seen one.

Some of that is right and his one day average is average but u dont score in excess of 150 runs in one test match (gainst australia, which was also his debut) unless u have class which he certainly has. In his last ODI he scored 45 runs from 37 balls.

BTW Whats the deal with Nathan Astle???

Is he out for the whole ODI series or will he be back from injury later in the series.

Speaking of Chris Cairns' big hitting - a couple of those on Tuesday really brought the memories flooding back ...

You know what I mean - down on one knee, virtually no backlift, he just 'flicked' the ball over the fence rather than hitting it with brute force.

Has the same massive power in his forearms that Lance used to have.

I know Chris doesn't like comparisons with his dad (that 'fat bastrad' he calls him :D ) but geez, he certainly looked just like the legendary Lance out there on Tuesday night.

cheers
