and losses... Thommo... JB.. surely can't play ones again..
anyway, I don't like to bag clubs (unless it's Weapons or anyone from Deer Park)... so all the best to the Devils... but in my opinion anything better than week 2 of the finals will be Bonus for 07.
thommo is still playing unshore if he wants to plays 1s but when he sees us flying he will change his mind and join us. dont worry about that. thanks any way bangs!!! good luck 2 your boys aswell
but if u look at past players from the Western Magpies like Mark Keenan (spotty) , Craig Wells(sunshine) and Ayden Mcnally(west footscray) who r all quality players they have all moved onto other clubs with the cash ..
Ayden Mcnally played only under 10s there then moved to werribee then in under 16s he played 3 games then went 2 werribee under 19s so i wouldnt say is a lavo player just a lavo boy

Cmat you are pretty right about Heights because whilst they are paying $0 their will be no first division ever.
Money might bring success but not all the time look at Glenorden they paid BIG $$$$ and still lost grand finals.Sunshine Heights will be the side to beat in the next 2or 3 years

k we have got 4 blokes from seamore 2 sign unshore of all the boys names!! ash lewis ex port colts 2s player a guy from willy c y jeff butts. greg mckenzie plus matty young is also a huge chance 2 sign with us!!
Tell us a bit about Ash Lewis. Do you think he will do well in A2 coming from Port Colts reserves. Did he play any seniors at Colts and do you know why he has gone down a division being a young guy. Was he not up to A1's or does he have mates at Nth.
You seem very confidant about Nth having never played for them. From my observations Nth have lacked a lot of spirit and passion the last few years. Would need a big turnaround in this department and also some real match winners into the side to give it a shake. Tommo will most likely play super rules and if you inject two players to make up for him and JB they would want to be good ones. Also it's probably time to stop relying on these two anyway. Correct me if I am wrong but real match winners are lacking at Nth. I see Eldridge if he is switched on and not distracted (which happens easily), Williams who is easily tagged by a pacey player and not much else. I do hope your new players and the ones already there do pick Nth up the ladder a bit as I have said before the more good teams the better.
My prediction for Nth would be 5th to 8th at this stage.

I reckon you might not be far off the mark TD. The Devils haven't done well the last few years, but are hoping to improve this year. I still think we are a chance to make the top 4 but am not getting carried away. Ash Lewis would have played more ones at the Colts but as you know they are very well off in the ruck dept. Ask the Port guys and I am sure they will rate him. Few of the Seymour guys look handy but I guess we will wait and see. Not sure about JB playing due to work commitments. I think he will play and is still a very handy forward pocket. Thommo is getting old and may play seconds (not playing superrules). He finished 3rd or 4th in the B&F last year so while no longer a super star, has still something to offer.
WRFL Club of the year in 2005 and 2006 so while we need to do better on the ground, are obviously a decent institution.

I think club of the year relates to paying things on time and attending meetings, so obviously a well run place.
Tommo is still a handy player and in your best. He has said he wasn't that keen on playing for a few years and always does so it would be no surprise. Funny a while back I rated Tommo and JB as two of the best blokes from the opposition over the years and both are from Nth. I think Brett Hinge has JB worked out as he does with Steve Lane. Damo no. 4 for Heights has Tommo sorted with tagging. If you have seen the two on each other it looks like a cartoon with them being a metre apart all game.
I know this isn't really the folder, bu any player turning 35 this and want to play footy for fun, have a few beers and great social side, come down and play with Werribee Masters.
Werribee (est 25 yrs) have joined the Metro comp this year and are looking at having a real shot in there first season giving the 3th division a real shake. Werribee have two other teams competing in Country masterss and a new comp for older players (aged 47 plus).
Don't knock masters until you have tried it.
For more info listen to 88.9 FM at 12.45 Saurday morning and hear from the club coach.
Training is Thursday night at Chirnside Park Watton St Werribee starting at 6.00 pm.

It is not easy for Thommo. As he is getting older he is not being tagged as much, but the guy has had a shadow most weeks for the best part of 10 years. That Damo guy is young and fit, but has poor skills and not that much to offer. He may have restricted Thommo's output of recent times, but SHeights are only one club in the comp. Thommo played well the first time against Heights kicking 2 or 3 quick ones in the second half to bring us back into the game. I think he was playing on a Kiwi or Islander guy who showed him no respect. I remember Bomber screaming at the guy to watch the little man.
Brett Hinge is a terrific defender and I am real fan. JB still kicked goals against top sides this year, so while he has to rely more on craft (not that he was every really athletic) he is still a handy foil. If he is playing forward pocket and Heights are pumping us (like you did late in the season), it is going to be difficult for him to shine.

JB gun player never came back as good after breakking his ankle while playing at Willy.Probably Best years were at West Newport nearly unstoppable back then. But in saying that still had many go years at Nth.
Ive seen Brett Hinge play b4 he plays well for an old guy i heard that when he kept lane goal less he didnt even train and didnt train all year

You are quite wrong about Damo not having much to offer. Probably a 5 to 6 out of 10 for kicking but everything else is first class. I suppose he is one of those players you need to see week in week out to appreciate. Has come top 5 b and f the lasr 2 years, has tagged many top players and ofter plays on the opposition wing and is rarely beaten on a one on one. Very hard player puts his body over the ball for a small build. Very highly respected at Heights
Yeah Tommo played well, I think they gave both Damo and Tommo a break from the tagging, as the coach is good friends with Tommo. The islander was his first game of football ever so didn't really know what he was doing.
That doesn't sound like Bomber screaming. I believe the coach and the assistants this year are moulding themselves on Paul Rooos and are taking a valium before the game. They are passionate which is good but it gives me a head ache at times.
Who have you played on from Heights Red Devil and what are their good and bads sides to their game.

He has had some ripper seasons at Nth don't wory about that. Won many games off his own boot. Still a handy forward pocket if it can be worked he has the 3rd or 4th best defender. Has slowed down a lot since his a r s e hs tripled.

Spoke to Brett a month or so ago. He is playing his customery 6 games to qualify and is definetely playing against West. Look out Stevie Lane who not only finds it hard to score a goal against him but finds it hard to get a possession against him at all. He trains about once every 2 years but having the respect he has at the club we are rapt when he can play.

If that is the case with Nick, look out oppisistion sides. At 16 Nick was as good as it gets in regards to being a "draft chance" way back when sides could take 17 year olds. Lets hope he can string together a number of games and re-produce he's best form.

Agree with that Obe1.. best player in the comp without question. Hasn't done a pre season or played a full year for 4 years due to work and travel.. has done the whole pre season and dropped 8 - 10 kg's.... Give him the Smith Medal now.

You have as much chance of Nick playing for Colts as we do of having Rock play for heights lol. Seriously he has only played enough games to qualify in the last few years and hasn't trained. All going well he will play many games and be a major influence. Like a bonus new recruit really on top of last years team. Goes bang the comp medal might be a bit much as we know anything can happen in football. I think just let him go about his business as low key as possible as he is that sort of guy and wouldn't ever pump himself up. However it's very exciting watching him train.
Obe1 can you tell a little about Ash Lewis. Did he play any seniors at Colts and if not was he close. How old is he. Could he have become a senior regular at Colts in time or just not up to it.
Interesting about the night comp. as we are still looking to find another praccy. Have asked previous thoughts on playing an A1 club and receiving a thumping. Could it demoralise or as I think would do good seeing how top players operate and see where players are at as individuals playing wise and fitness wise. Your thoughts?

deer park played the colts in a praccy in 2004 when they last played in a granny got smacked by about 30 goals but i suppose it was a great hit out just to learn how they move and use the ball and i think it wouldnt be demoralizing you prob can get alot out of it i recon it would be a great eye opener to see where the team is at and what you have to work on in a degree if you wanna play in the top comp.......:thumbsu:

It was a little disapionting loosing Ash after one year, he was close to a senior game a number of times. Probaly ranked around the 26th player on the list. He is around the 25 yo mark and was primarly gromed as a defender in the ones and was used in the ruck for the two's. He seems more than happy in his new "home" and is very keen to do well for North.
As for playing a higher standard club in a praccy match? I think it is always a good idea to aim high, get people out of thier comfort zone and test ones skills ( both mental and pysical ) How a club approaches a game as such depends on the coaches ability to "sell" the game to the team, identifying the key piont's that would like to achive fron the game. As long as it is approached with confidence and a focus on your clubs KPI'S you cant go wrong. It is also important to choose well in identifing the correct team to play.

ash left the colts just because he wants to get a bit of snr footy under his belt and new that wouldnt happen at the colts. who know how he will go in div2 only time will tell!! he 24 loves playing ruck and had no hope of doing that at the colts or any div1 club so div2 prob suits him better plus his kicking is terrible. hes keen for a big season this year at nth.

i think you can learn a lot from playing against an A1 team but the club from A1 isn't going to get anything out of the hit out
we played against a division 2 club a few years ago and we had players walking off the ground because it was just a waste of time and not the best preperation for the following week
it's only my opinion but i wouldn't like to play a praccy against an A2 club as there is no benefit and would shattered if i sustained an injury in such a contest

Appreciate your views cougarman.
However as an A1 club the game could still be used for match fitness, working out set plays, working on zones etc for opposition kick ins, working on your kick ins, working out a structure all over the field and looking at new players. Saying that if I were an A1 club I would still want it to be in some way competetive say a 15 goal win or less, which is being outscored by 3 or 4 goals a quarter.
Maybe you just expressed a strong view so Rock can see it so he doesn't organise a practice match against Heights which might frighten a few of your players. Only joking there.

i'm sure there a some benefits like the ones you mentioned but i prefer not to play in those type of matches, one massive benefit would be to rest most of your big guns and throw your young players in and see how they go, pick a side that will ensure a competitive hit-out and help with the development of younger players on the list, after all scoreboard is irrelevant in praccy games

It is very exciting TD, over 35 on the track tonight, new blokes running around fitting in well and the big fella Ash looks great.
How have all the new guys settled in down Glengala road. How many from Centrals have come across??? Big Fasil will be a good recruit for you guys... another big body across the forward line will serve you guys well.

yeah well just going off where they finished last year and with the pick ups they have they can only go forward. so they would be top 3 if thats the case!!!
ash lewis is doing k is been winning the time trials and is very keen. playing with the colts for the last 2 years so hes trying 2 bring a few things hes learnt from the best of div1. so that can only benefit the club and him self. his kicking skills need a lot of work. we have picked up at least 4 players over 6'2 with matty young sighning 2nite aswell so things are looking up for the devils o7 mate

Yeah big Faisel is going great. Seeing him close up you appeciate how talented he is. Kicks 45 to 50 both sides of his body is a strong mark and hits like a train. Have another 3 or 4 from Centrals too all very good footballers capable of playing good senior football. If their training keeps up all will be in the seniors for the practice games giving them every chance of being there in round one. Also have another of Centrals 2005 team training and hope for another one to sign up also from 2005. Both played in higher leagues in 2006.
We recruit differently as we don't pay we need to find the guys who are not chasing a dollar and need to sell the club in other ways to entice players to come and play with the best club in A2's. Yes we are all biased I know.
About 25 at training tonight. Good to hear about young Ash, I suppose all eyes will be on him once the real stuff starts to see how he goes. Who are your assistant coach/s and reserves coach at Nth.

We would all love all of our players to have the passion and love of football Dekka does. I think with a guy like Dekka it is very easy to be pigeon holed as a type of player, ie a reseves player. Once that happens it is hard to become a regular senior player. A new club and opportunities where a player like Dekka could start from scratch could mean being a regular senior. If you are interested in a change Dekka just pm me and we will get you down to Ainsworth lol.

Thanks for the kind words TD,
I will keep you guys in mind if i ever feel that a chnage is needed. At least i know i can find a club where i may be able to speak my second language frequently and also be around guys that enjoy a punt on the trots.

I heard a whisper that Theo, ex Central coach was down and had a coaching roll.... I knew Grima was an assistant as well.
We have Cameron Mullinger as Assistant coach and Aldo Pagano is the Twos coach. I do believe however that we are seeking another assistant as we speak.

Theo hasn't been sighted as yet.
Was also hoping to get big MJ and Scott V from Central. However both decided that their priority was money and ended up at West.
Grima does have a coaching role at Heights and between you and me enjoys any sort of roll he can get his hands on. Very fortunate to have Michael as an assistant at Heights, will make a great coach one day, very astute. It's like we have two coaches and both work very well together.

Yeah good point you want to know how other sides are going but down at magpie land we not really worried. We are looking to strenghten our under18s coming up and then when we are a better side we will worry but when your a finals team like Albanvale,West Footscray and Deer Park you start looking at how they are going because as a finals team you want to be better then them from the year before. And what do you mean get your head around laverton star will here is a tip get your hand off it and let a bit of blood flow get to it and you will soon get it

we (braybrook) are hoping to continue in 07' where we left off in 06'. as most know, our club imploded on the eve of round 1 last year and we didnt really get something resembling a full and settled side until mid way though the season. once that happend we performed fairly well beating coburg, wyndhemvale and pushing wests and albanvale.
had mixed numbers at training so far ranging from mid 20's a week ago, to only 15 last night. working very hard on fitness and match simulation as this area was a weakness for us in 2006. couple of new players at training but the majority of the team is the same as last season.
have 3 praco's lined up with the first against westbourne in mid march.
all in all things looking good for a better start to 07' than what happend in 06'

Banger, your club seems to have picked up a number of ex-central altona players. How have they fitted in? I hope that your club doesn't incurr the same misfortune as other clubs who have taken in mass numbers from a exciled club. West Newport , Newport , Central Altona and to a lessor degree Parkside have all benifited at one time or another by mass numbers of players walking in and then walking back out, with little left to show for the exercise. Whats your thoughts?

Happened at the start of last year with Braybrook as well, where the players from Centrals walk out on them and went bacl there, which in the end was the begin of the end.
Also afew years ago Nth Footscray had a few of that group playing for them as well. Maybe asked Dekka what his thought are when they came and lefted the club.
I know of one player miss out on a ressies granny cause 1 of them threatened to walk out of the club if his brother didnt play, club gave in and played his brother.

Thats a good point. I think the key is being able to intergrate the new players into your own clubs culture... make sure they are part of the club and not a smaller group within the club. I know that the guys at Heights are good at that so that should help.
I think that the problem at Centrals was lack of leaders.... most of them are good blokes but when one goes off the others are easily led. The leadership at Heights is strong and disciplined so hopefully they also follow that lead.
Also important that they are treated equally. No use letting them come across and putting them on warnings... Once these guys sign the clearance they are 100% Sunshine Heights. If they play up they will get a kick up the arse just the same as Greto Weston Mizzi or any other player.
As far as I am aware there are 5 from Centrals last year.

Very valid point 1’s good. At North Footscray we had a few players from a couple of these clubs and they can create damage. It is not necessarily always the players themselves, but also their friends and family members.
Who needs the hassle? For example, Faisal may be a top bloke but what about his mates or acquaintances that come and watch? Or decide they want to join after a couple of rounds?
I am still bitter about what some of these people did to our club when they played for us and also resulting from an all in brawl last year involving Centrals. I know for a fact that Faisal and Centrals could not control these blokes. Good luck to Heights.

Like goesbang says club culture is important. At Heights we have averaged about two send offs per year for the last few years. A couple have been for swearing at himself, throwing a football on the ground and wrestling with a guy who started the wrestle. So discipline at Heights is first class and anyone who steps out of line gets pounced on and punished as they are letting 20 mates down.
All our new recruits are treated with respect and have all fitted in very well. All are hard workers and want to play good football at their new home. All very good players and all are starting to come out of their shells and show their personalities also. It is a very exciting time at Heights at the moment.
Also with about 70 names been on the track already anyone who turns up just before the season or during it I dare say can expect to train for 3 or 4 weeks before being considered. Thats whats happened other years as it is not really all that fair to the guys who have put in the work. Always some players are upset but everyone understands why.

Close Dekka. There was a fight between a Centrals player and a Nth player, when another Central player run in and abused the umpire he was also sent off. Instinctively and stupidly he then grabbed the umpire. A Nth player who was there then grabbed the Centrals player at about a second after the Centrals player grabbed the umpire and tried to pull him off. This pulling pulled the three off balance and pulled the umpire toward the ground. Looked a lot worse than it was and who knows what the Centrals player would have done had he not been grabbed. He may have gone worse or he may have pushed the umpire away. Nevertheless the Centrals guy deserved his suspension for even touching the umpire,

Only my opinion, but there is no way he has ever been the best ruckmen in the comp. Will admit that he played a top game against Heights in the Final last year, taking a few nice grabs.... but before that I have seen him play against Heights in the forward line and Heights would play a 5 ft 8/9 player on him because they don't rate his ability to have any influence as a marking forward.... I'll take Kehagias over him any day!!

Well he won a b&f there a couple of years ago and was best ruckman in the comp easily, he would of hit the ball to me hundreds of times....
And tell ya he's better than Kehagius, although when he went back last season he didnt get much of a go in the ruck...........apparently smashing the ball out of the ruck rates more than putting it on someones chest in the centre square......
Oh, and if ya still think he's ********e ask skippy how he rates him
But hey, we got rid of huffy so it might be ok this season!
Just out of curiousity, who did win Coburg's B&F last season???
Not to bag Mitch - loved playing with the big fella and he was great for us up forward and gave good breaks to others in the ruck by rucking the forward line. Also an absolute gentleman.
Apparently you didn't see the final against Sunshine Heights when in the last quarter Fabian got the ball guided down to his hands three times in a row and pretty much got us the game winning break. Or the game against North Sunshine when three goals were kicked from taps to players at the boundary contest in the space of 15 minutes.
Not one to talk myself up but to suggest all I did was smash the ball out of the centre is just silly.
As for Huffy - I just hope you've provided the years of service that he did to the club before you go on spouting about how good it is there without him.

Buddy it is a computer, not a mobile phone you are typing into. Please communicate in English.
That said, even though you don't appear to be the brightest spark you are still welcome down at North Footscray!:thumbsu:

Who is Daniel Mitchell. Never gets mentioned when playing Coburg as someone to watch, keep an eye on, tag nothing. Never heard of him. Probably won a b and f when you were finishing 3rd or 4th last on the ladder which til 2006 was most years.
Kehagius is for mine is one of the best ruckman in A2 . I think you should show him a bit more respect with him being a good bloke and also winning your b and f and probably a fair reason you made finals and won a final. Unless you are whoever Mitchell.
