Did Lucy have a go up forward? Mid-Field? Or did he run up the ground from defence to get his goals?

I aslo heard Nash played a very good game, hopefully he gets a game soon! It would be nice if he got one next week vs the Crows in his home state!

A quick report for you all.

Pev - very good second half , very average early . Still made a lot of stupid mistakes . Made too many simple skill errors and put his team mates under huge pressure at times. Gets a thumbs up for persisting and was one of the players who got us over the line in the last quarter.

JJ -played well , still made a few mistakes late in the game when he was getting a bit tired.Dropped a couple of marks late and was guilty of one very poor turnover by foot that cost us a goal.

Hocking - played well , kicking for goal was average kicked 1-4 but had a real go.

Lonergan - played well enough in the first half and last quarter to get a mention in the best. Easilly his best game. Went in hard and showed some dash.

Lucy - best game he has played. Played in defnece early and then at half forward. Gave a good contest all day.Looks to be gaining in confidence every week.

Jolley - consistant all day from half back with a few stints in the middle. Is playing well.

Nash - played well enough to earn senior selection. Was good with his run from half back.Doesnt make too many skill errors.

Neagle - was a little quiet and spent some time on the bench. Wasnt terrible.

Cartledge - was just ok. Needs to do more.

Firman - a little quieter than normal but still got a few kicks.

Slattery - wasnt one of his better games but he was pretty solid in defence.

Lee - played nearly all day in defence. Started well but faded out of the game. Reasonably solid in defence but did have a few concentration lapses.

The game was a little scrappy at times but the boys are getting better as the young blokes gain confidence. We really need a decent forward target.

How far off do you reckon Lucy is from a debut with the Bombers?

Cheers for the reports.

Surely Nash has to get a gig very soon. Can't believe Dempsey is getting games ahead of him.

Suspect JJ and Pev will back vs the Crows. Need some big bodies vs them because they are massive.

Still has some work to do. He may get a couple of games before the end of the season.

Cheers for the reports.

They could well be but to be honest i hope only one comes in if any. Pev is not the future for us. As much as i hate to say it he is finished. As for JJ he may well be back but i wouldnt mind seeing him have another game for Bendigo.

Bendigo win lifts flagging Bomber spirits
Sunday, May 28, 2006
The Bendigo Bombers gave Essendon supporters something to smile about this weekend recording a hard-fought 15-point win over Port Melbourne at Teac Oval this afternoon. The win was Bendigo’s second for the season and it sets up an important clash with Frankston at QEO next weekend.

The Bombers broke away from Port Melbourne midway through the third quarter with what appeared to be a match-winning five-goal lead but Port Melbourne refused to lie down and hit the front early in the last quarter. However the Bombers steadied in the final stages to record an important win.

Damien Peverill was clearly the best player on the ground racking up 36 possessions and kicking three goals. It was just the type of performance that would have caught the eye of selectors. Peverill’s experience was critical late in the game when Bendigo was challenged.

Jason Johnson also took his demotion on the chin and collected a mountain of possessions in the midfield. Johnson finished with 33 possessions and he also kicked three goals. He too will be in line for a senior recall, particularly given the challenge Essendon faces at AAMI Stadium against Adelaide next Friday night. His experience could be important.

Rookies Heath Hocking and Ben Jolley again impressed Bendigo coach Matthew Knights. Jolley had 24 possessions and laid seven effective tackles and kicked one goal.

"Hocking did a mountain of work and was very good for us. He finished with 31 possessions, took eight marks and led the team in effective tackles with eight. But his numbers could have looked much better – he kicked 1.5," Knights said.

"I thought Austin Lucy gave us a little bit when he went forward kicking two goals in the last quarter. Jay Neagle spent most of the day in defence. Both of them are really just learning about the game.

"The midfield was good most of the day. We went inside 50m 66 times for the day compared with Port Melbourne’s 50 so that is a reflection of the good work they did for us.

Bendigo goalkickers: Peverill, J. Johnson 3, Vigus, Lucy, Lonergan 2, Hocking, Doering, Rosa, Jolley, Firman 1.Bendigo best: Peverill, Jolley, J. Johnson, Hocking, Nash, Rosa.

JJ, and Peverill must come in for damage control.
