Looks like Trev had a good Christmas, He must weigh all of 70kg's now.
Where do you think Trev should play gerta. He does get pushed around a little to easy for dominant/key positions.
Ahh good to see things haven't changed for the young bean pole.. I'd love to see him play well in the ruck. Trev was always very good at the centre bounce, but around the ground could get pushed around easily.
Hopefully i'll get to make the short trip down the road to have a look at a few Marong games this year.

Marong will be far more competitive this season. Freddo has focused on player retention, and adding depth to the list. Brad McCormick is the only key loss at this stage but the club is hopeful he will return from OS in time to qualify for finals. There have been good numbers on the track and with the Maryborough night series and another practice match lined up, fitness should be vastly improved. Without getting carried away, we would expect to play finals this year.
Not getting carried away??? Expect to play finals??? I think you should be aiming at 5 wins as a first goal after last seasons performances...
You won one game last year so to go from that to finals is well above expectations.
Good Luck to you all but I think you may be placing too high of expectations on yourselves.

why wouldnt marong aim for finals? were in a position too win more games last year but fitness told out. with a stronger list and more fitness under the belt theres no reason why marong shouldnt aim for finals, stranger things have happened thats for sure.
Spot on Hirdy. Why wouldn't any side be aiming for finals. Why else are we here.
I think a few people will be surprised with the improvement from Marong. Freddo has worked damn hard recruiting, fitness is at the foremost of pre-season so far and the quality young players sticking around instead of going to BFL is impressive.

Yeah marong are sounding pretty strong for the up coming season. But rumour has it there has been a mass exodus of players from the bulldogs of the HDFL to the bulldogs of the LVFL.
Can anybody confirm this and if so who are these fellas?

Give the rest of the league some credit. Do you think they will all be waiting for Marong to catch up? I am sure all clubs are recruiting well and also doing fitness work.
The comments about being in winning positions last year is irrelevant as clubs in grand finals will tell you the same, but its all about winning.
They need a few big signings to help kids who will not be able to handle everything that happens in their first year of senior footy as they may not have the time space or size to do so. I dont think they are there yet.

Dunks was training the house down at Serp before he was cleared to Beulah. I think he only managed to play a couple of praccy matches and maybe one or two of the regular season before heading to Beulah. Not sure how he went up there, but i'm sure he would have been a handy pick up... Good bloke to have around a club..
As for names of recruits for Serp there are a couple from the NCFL that they have been chasing and hope to get, and a few others as well. I did get told the names but honestly can't remember. Apparently have recruited a lot better than last year.

Fair Point GG.
But last year Marong were competitive for the first half for most games. But then died and handed a few thrashings. Hopefully Marong this year will have the endurance to be competitive for four quarters. If our fitness matches everyone else's you wont have to 'wait for Marong to catch up'. We will be right there beside you.

you make a good point in saying no one will wait for marong too catch up, but no one said they will be. we had more room for improvement fitness wise than anyone else so if we keep the hard work up, we will be the most improved side fitness wise in the league, which should start us off level with everyone. as for the recruiting freddo's working very hard too recruit players too the club, and with them new signings and the fitness up too scratch expect too see big improvement this year, as i said in an earlier thread.

why were you so unfit, was there blokes not prepared to do the hard work, or was there injuries, i hope it was injuries, if not its about changing the blokes mind set, and thats one of the hardest things to do, will be good to see marong on the up, will have to come and watch a few games.

It's hard to put into context without looking like we're just making excuses. Late start contributed to a lack of fitness, not great preseason recruitment which doesn't lend itself to a 'good feeling' around the place, injuries to key players (Rogers, Franklin, McCormick, Carson, Milner, Thompson x2, Williams), lack of depth. Forget the excuses, all of this means 15 at training which makes putting together any sort of football side near impossible.
The thing is, we're not playing AFL. Change can occur very quickly. The promotion of one of the club's (and league's) finest and most respected players to coach, numbers at training, a new heirachy, green grass, plenty of new faces; all of this makes that 'losing' mind set easy to change. Finishing last should be enough to change the mind set of anyone who was part of Marong FC in 2007.

I can assure you that Gossip Girl is not ycc or gossipgirl. If you have a look at my postings there has been no carry on or any ridiculous statements. My partner tried to register his name from our email but could not log on because I was already registered. Not sure if we are a bit computer illiterate but that would make all 3 of the names different people. That is of course if ycc and gossipgirl don't have a slack job that they on from their offices.

you are right there Big Gossip Girl, you can only have one account per email address, so you would need to have two email addresses to have different accounts on here. Speaking of that a bloke i work with has two, and says he often fights with himself on here, figure that!!!
This is a note to all who come on here: LETS KEEP IT REAL
As for YCC, ex-player from his club tells me he went overseas, but has cut trip short cos his old man has had a heart attack, I think him and his older brother are running the farm for a while. This ex-player also tells me YCC was a girlfriend and boyfriend duo, not the one person, that how they now about netball and footy.

Unfortunately for Marong, you might be on the money there GG. Marong were very hopeful of getting Andy back this season but it seems the bumper crop up Sea Lake way has left them with a bigger cheque book than Marong. Andy has never been that keen on training either which I'm sure also played some part.

First transfers for the year are up:

As mentioned a couple of months ago Lucas Ruedin is heading back to Bridgey...very handy midfielder/forward.
Also a couple of big blokes, Nick Hall (bridgey u17's) and Reece Poyner (nullawil).
Anyone know how Reece goes? I know he can belt a cricket ball :)

Played with Reece at W.Hills in 2006, got a good pair of hands and takes a strong pack mark when his mind and confidence is right and moves pretty swiftly for a big bloke.
Chf is his best position i believe, can pinch hit in the ruck if needed due to his height(6'4-6'5) but a more than a handy forward especially in LV and a good kid to have around the club.

Again for yet another moron. I am not associated or nor have I ever been associated with the Newbridge football club. Although my screen name is of a player formally from Newbridge I have that screen name merely as a joke.
So with that said I state once again that Newbridge are a chance to win the flag this year. Just like every other club in the league. They have a better chance then some clubs but maybe not as good as Calivil and one or two others.
Is that talking up Newbridge. NO MORONS. Simple statements are often mis-understood by simple minds. Good day to you.

no one from marong ever said theyll win the flag, if you look through earlier threads and read them properly you might realise that. they talked up the club, its a great club, but no one ever said marong will win the flag.

Wrong Phar_lap. Marong talked themselves up to play finals - not win the flag. Even then we copped a hiding from a few for being this optimistic.
Good to see Franks back and dishing it out aswell. Seems to be a few angry little souls on here at the moment.

The panthers seem to have recruited quite well which is a good thing for the league, from all reports Calivil aren't far away from securing the signatures of 3 or 4 top line players from the BFL, which is only going to make them stronger.

I really doubt that 3 or 4 top line BFL players would be Calivil bound. They are known to be resonably tight with the cookies haven't been able to attract a coach the past few seasons and they celebrate Premierships like home and away wins.

a fair question to ask. My mail is Calivil and Andy Fremantle treated 2007 as a year to play kids in the seniors not really expecting to win the flag (which newbridge appeared to have a mortgage on for most of 2007) but rather leave the club in good shape going forward so they didn't actively recruit a lot of paid players. The kids they played turned out to be good players (eg Matt Smith) and they managed to win the flag. 2008 is going to be an all out assault on winning the flag which is why i believe they have actively sort out and been able to sign 3 - 4 bona fide guns from Bendigo.
Time will tell.

Surely there are still a few quality footballers out there who play for success rather than money. If this is the case, where better to go than Calivil? If they are so tight, I guess it goes to show that loyalty still plays a part in country football. Despite all the money spent by the last 5 LVFL runners' up, Calivil have still managed to come out on top. Maybe they simply don't need to spend the money.
As far as a coach goes, it's not a gig I'd like to take on. A new coach would be on a hiding to nothing. Who would want to be at the helm when Calivil eventually miss out on a flag?
After winning the last five senior and 11 of the last 15 LVFL flags on offer, one could forgive the Calivil guys for toning down their celebrations.

How many young blokes did they end up playing out there Frank? Everyone knows about how good of a find Matt Smith turned out to be but I can't recall any other young players being blooded. I think Andy trotted out that line early in the piece but as we saw from the Grand Final side it was the same blokes from the last 5 years. I think Andy's eyes started to light up when he realised how close he was getting to the 5 peat. Nice position to be in but I have heard on the grapevine that a few of the younger kids were a little disappointed on not getting the opportunities to play senior football that were promised to them early on in the year.
How tough it must be to coach at Calivil!;)

I reckon at least 6 kids would have played senior footy for the first time out there last year under the age of 19. I agree the youth policy line gets thrown around by sides that are usually going to struggle but i think Calivil were genuine in their belief the only way forward as a club was to play the kids and find out where they were at with their footy, regardless of if they were in the best 21 players. Come finals time i don't think anyone in their right mind would play anything but the best 21 which is why the kids probably got the flick for more seasoned footballers.

I must have hit a nerve there Frank. I'm not from Newbridge like I stated earlier. There is no club in the league that I am or have ever been directly tied to. Just a fan of local footy which I see as often as I can. I wouldn't even say I have a favourite club.
Sorry about getting you all hot and bothered. That goes for jhirdy as well. Seems I hit a nerve there also. You both seem a couple of cans short in the come back stacks but I won't rub it in too much.
I fixed your spelling and grammar.

Instead of everyone b*itching like girls, let's get this forum back on track...I'll start.
It looks like the Marong bandwagon is starting to gather momentum.
10 players have already lodged clearances to them...6 from Elmore including Rout.
We are starting to get some rumours confirmed.

I was more coming from the point of view that if they are top line BFL players they are more than likely to already be on attractive remuneration so why would they start travelling 50 minutes to get less in a club than has already won 5 straight flags.
Well done to Calivil for what they have been able to achieve but they are going to find it harder and harder to recruit until they don't win one again.

The Jones boy from White Hills is gonna be a fairly handy pick up for them. The youngster's got a leap on him like a startled Gazelle.
