Was just wondering whether this was worth a shot.
I see a lot of Trent Croad in Waite. Extremely rare mix in that he is athletic and strong, but lacking a little in footy smarts.
We moved Croad to CHB and left him there and he became All-Australian. He's also become a better forward because of it.
Right now your backline looks shoddy. Why not try him out?

Not a bad idea, I just posted the same idea on another thread. He would provide another running option and would cause headaches because of this. His opponent would have no choice but to follow him.
It's what the blue's need, another running option down back. Lance is great as 1/4 back in defense but I always think back to when he was fit and playing forward.

Yeah he should be tried at CHB. I agree totally.
100% agree. Waite will be a champion CHB if he is moved there.
pity we can't make it happen.

Does Waite have the discipline to play such an important position?
I wouldn't like to see him up againt the Browns, Tredreas, Halls and Riewoldts.
Mind you if the right matchup is there, it could be worth a shot. Personally I see him as more a roaming Wing / Forward where he can use his athleticism to either mark on the wings and pump it into 50, or offer 2nd/3rd forward target for us.

It would take some time for him to learn...what better time than this year...

Spot on!
This should be year we experiment. even put him on a 1/2 flank as a ball carrier that runs through the wing. With Walker on the other flank doing a similar role. Eventually the 1/2 back line could consist of Russell, Bower and Waite. Both Bower and Waite provide run but with a good amount of grit while Russell adds real polish. Russell would allow walker to play on the wing where he will do the most damage.

The guy is a shocking kick. I don't think I'd be filled with confidence seeing Jarrad Waite streaming out of defence trying to pinpoint a lead from a forward. Too much of a liability in the back half.
Forwards are far more valuable than defenders anyway. Not sure why people would want to give up something that not many other clubs have in a potential champion CHF, and waste him at half back doing a job that any old hack can do. Joel Bowden gets 30 useless touches playing at HB for the Tigers... pointless.... Joel Smith does the same thing for Hawthorn. They don't hurt the opposition.
Watched the footy at the Carlton social club on Saturday and they interviewed Bower and Waite beforehand.
One interesting question was whether Waite will play CHB in the future. Waite said it had been posed to him in the past but he stated his personal preference was to play forward. Coaching staff would probably prefer to play players where they want to play, I guess. But personally think he might make a great back line player...would certainly have the size to go with the tall mobile forward and would also provide some dash off the backline.
Worth the Waite

Agree 100% we should give waite a go at CHB, it should have been tried in the NAB cup.

Terrible idea...The first thing that springs to mind is Fev on Gherig last year. The whole idea of re-inventing players in new positions doesn't sit well with me. He is an explosive style player and plays extremely well in bursts, when he's not on song though, he has as bad a day's as any1 in the AFL. CHB requires more consistency less flair.
He more often than not looks exhausted by halftime or after chase down the ground and does not appear to have the stamina to run with the the likes of Tredrea, J Brown or Trent Croad. Is he the type of player that can improve his stamina? Or does he simply have a small aerobic capacity? I don't think he has shown much in the past in the way of a defensive side to his game, although there is the occasional chase, and CHB isn't the place to be teaching a potential defender. Imagine playing him on player of the J Brown/Tredrea/Rocca/Lucas calibre. His confidence would be shot to pieces week after week.
This would be the final nail in the Pagan coffin for me....
This is not a good idea. Its like saying our champion cow isnt giving milk lets try her at laying eggs. He is not a backman, he is a foward style player he has not lived up to his potential. Waites defensive skills are not there and throwing him intot the bacline at thsi stage would be a terrible mistake. Plays 8 games in the backline and gets an understanding of how it works, then at the start of next year he is no longer a forward and not yet a backman. Great.
Maybe we can put a rocket up his arse and tell him to lift his friggin game instead.
He's a tall flanker not a KPP. He doesn't have the strength or stamina to play CHB against quality opponents.

You think its bad having him in the backline, im more worried about him gettin shoitloads of pts than him doin a crap kick to a forward

Better him actually getting the ball in the forward half than in the back half. Doesn't anybody know that forwards win you games!!! I can't believe this crap people are going on with, when in every single other thread every numbskull wants to play a more attacking style of footy.
Oh no, great idea.... lets throw Waite into the backline!!! That'll improve our attacking game!! Jeez. Make up your mind.

Didn't really say much other than it will take 6-8 weeks (from memory) and his goal is to get a game before the end of the year. He talked about playing on Kennedy in a big match (WA grand final or All Australian, can't remember) and said Kennedy was the best tall going around last year. Reassuring given Bower has a first hand perspective of the talls going around, which recruiters don't. When asked who won the contest, he said it was even. Which is also a good sign for his future...if it is true.

I dont like the idea. Behind Fevola and whitnall, waite is by far our most exciting and talented player.
Lets leave him up forward to weave the magic we know hes capable of.
This way our supporters will have something to cheer about when he gets near it, rather than resigning him to the depressing status of being a carlton defender.
The only way to re-invent our lackluster defence is to target a couple of quality defenders with picks in this years draft.
Besides, Whitnall aint making a bad go of it down there is he? Lets move Lappin back to the forward line while fisher and waite make a recovery.
