If you could be a fly on the wall (or a fly in the air, if it was outside ;)) in an event throughout history, what event would you choose to witness?
Bear in mind, you (the fly) has only one day left to live and can only witness this history making event for 24 hours.
I had a think about this and I decided that I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall on the 26th January, 1788 when the First Fleet landed at Sydney Cove, an event which dramatically changed the course of history on the Australian continent.
This event may not have been as eventful, dramatic or exciting as many other dates throughout history but I believe it would have been fascinating to witness the first landing of the British fleet and the reactions of the local Aboriginal people witnessing these weird looking people on large seafaring vessels enter onto their land. I would be particularly interested to learn (if I was able to) the thoughts and emotions of the Aborigines in and around Sydney Harbour when they saw the First Fleet and realised that they were going to land on Sydney Cove. It must have been an unbelievable experience for the Aborigines to see these boats, I'm curious to whether they were afraid, bewildered, excited, or angry when they witnessed the ships sail into Sydney Cove.
I would also love to see what Sydney Harbour looked like at the time, it must have been a beautiful sight for the officers and convicts on board the First Fleet witnessing the Harbour and setting foot on land.
That date changed the course of history on this continent forever and dramatically changed the lives of both the Europeans on board the First Fleet ships (and their descendants) and the Aborigines on the land (and their descendants) and pathed the way for millions of migrants to enter this continent since then.
What date in history would you choose to witness?

On the evening of September 3rd 1939
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the room where Hitler and Ribbontropp were discussing how the hell they were supposed to get out of the mess they had got themselves into.
Y'see the plan always was - Poland now, Soviet Union a bit later. and as for France and Britain, they were expected to roll over without a yelp and just stand by while Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union fought it out - or so the Nazis assumed.
When Britain and France declared war on SEp3 - Hitler and the Nazis were dumbfounded - less than a week into the war and they ended up with the war they never wanted ?
When he learned of the declaration of war he is supposed to have turned to von Ribbontropp and angrily demanded 'well ?'
Would have loved to have known what was said next
cheers

Most of the events I can think of wanting to witness took place over a span of days rather than as a single day event.
I'm always arguing with peole who believe in a JFK assassination conspiracy. I suppose I would want to be a fly in Dealy Plaza in Dallas, Texas 22 November 1963. I could see for myself there was only one shooter. With my luck, I would be eaten by a frog just as the motorcade was rounding on Elm Street. How about something a bit more sturdy - like an inconspicuous pterodactyl?

Off the top of me noggin, some events I would have loved to have been at;
1: The resurrection of Jesus. I wanted to be waiting beside the rock when he came out. Just to make sure it really happened...(although regardless, he did come out, the question is, was he dead in the first place)
2: To be there when Marilyn Monroe squeezed into (or was sewn into) that dress she wore when she serenaded JFK.
3: To have witnessed an Elvis concert live...
4: The farmer at Roswell...

Reminds me of a mate in high school who was always a goose getting into trouble. One day in Year 9 whilst changing in the boys changing room, he decided to squeeze up through the air vent along to the girls changing room next door ( he was always a skinny guy so he managed to get up to the roof through the vent and proceed to the girls room).
Nothing ever went his way as he fell through the fibro roof and the only part of his body to witness the girls changing rooms were his legs! The girls screamed and he got busted as he always did! :p
Awesome topic.
Well, I'd liked to have seen hitler **** his pants, then top himself.
JFK as well.

You didn't? The guys in my class managed to KNOCK DOWN the wall between the boys and the girls change room one day in year 10, after we'd finished playing basketball. They were in **** for months after that.
So when would I be a fly on the wall? Along the lines of Dipper's Doughnuts answer, I'd have liked to be have been a fly on the wall at the last supper. Not to prove it happened or whatever, but because it intrigues me what sort of atmosphere there would have been...
Other than that, I wouldn't mind having been a fly on the wall (well not quite the wall but whatever at various points when people became "civilised" or "modern". For example, how were inventions like the wheel and other basic necessities stumbled upon? How did the forms of communication that we use come about? Things like that I suppose.
im sure you dont care but you brought it up
i would have loved to witness
the last sermon of the prophet Muhamed (swas)
-------------------------------------------------------
After praising, and thanking Allah he said:
"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.
O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib (Prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived...
Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.
O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.
O People, listen to me in earnest, worship ALLAH, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.
Remember, one day you will appear before ALLAH and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.
O People, NO PROPHET OR APOSTLE WILL COME AFTER ME AND NO NEW FAITH WILL BE BORN. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.
All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to your people".

Im guessing (if there ever was a last supper ;) ) that the chicken got burnt and the beer was warm. So they sat around arguing about sport, and got completely loaded afterwards and then went large and tore up the town. And when they woke up, the dishes still hadn't been done...
1)Genesis.ther day man was made.
2) Seeing woman made from a rib. (gives new meaning to a rib eye steak ;))
3) Osamas back, now, so I could fly off and tell of where he is.
ps....As A fly I would need human eyesight and ears or it would all be a buzz and a blurr.
pps.....As an insult to other contributors to this thread may I say............................................MORTEIN...... ..:D
