Thats better than their usual pathetic effort.
I see Chris Cairns starred again  .Maybe if he shut his mouth once in awhile,he might be okay.
He is starting to sound like Dean Jones.:o

Brett Lee has bowled a ball at 154.6, the fastest of the summer.

Kiwis managed to get to 199 mainly thanks to an unbeaten half century from Chris Harris and 30 from Daniel Vettori.

NZ = 199
Aus = 8/166. Martyn and Brad Williams in, Brad Williams smashing them like a veteran!! (a couple of great cover drives)!
Starting to like this Williams bloke!

not as comical as Steve Waughs ridiculous run out. What a tool....he could of easily made it back if he actually gave half a stuff. And warne!! THrew his wicket away as per usual

All out: 176.
Ah yes! The old tendency of Australia falling to small targets.
Full credit to New Zealand, bowled extremly well.
When is Ian Harvey going to prove his worth ?
Drop him for Symonds on sunday & flick Mark Waugh for Hayden .

Well done to New Zealand. They played very well, especially after being 7 for 94. Dont write off the Aussies after only 1 loss. They have a tendancy to start slow and lose the 1st game but we'll be back on Sunday!!
Give Matt a bat!!!

McGrath seemed pretty pissed off when he got out i reckon he could be hearing more about that incident.
The kiwis bowled well though and in the end probably deserved the win.
How can you NOT select the worlds most 'in form' batsman first up?? Hayden can see himself despirately unlucky and the Aussies got what they deserved.
Hayden MUST replace Mark Waugh ... or even better ... Steven Waugh - wo wo wo what is he good for :p::eek::p

even though i tend to find one day cricket a bit of bore, i thought tonights one dayer was one of those very good one day matches.
Just a few points:
1. New Zealand defintaly deserved the victory. They kept their cool when it was looking like we had it in the bag. (has anyone noticed where yet to beat them this summer).
2. This proves the pressure of chasing runs.
3. Steve Waugh possibly could've made it back, however, he would've been assuming that the throw wasnt gonna be so off target. Even so, he still should've gone back. Hes the captain, and he needs to show the never give up attitude.
4. Also, that was Martyns fault as Steve Waugh called yes and was running to the danger end, and would've made it easily.
5. Glen McGrath didnt hit the ball, but Australia probably wouldn't have got up anyway had it been given not out.
But Australia threw the game away, and New Zealand were the better team on the day.

Actually I would say it is the other way around. New Zealand traditionally start slow in Australia and don't look likely of winning a game until game three or four.
Of course Australia v New Zealand is usually 3-1 respectively, but this summer I would humbly settle for 2-2.

Player,
I can remember 2 years ago we lost to Pakistan chasing a low score at the GABBA in the 1st game of that series. I think it takes the players a game to get into the swing of things. Our first game in the World Cup against Scotland was a total shocker for memory as well, even though we won.
We will beat New Zealand in every other match this summer, think positive!! :):)
SeinDude
Hey Seindude what side of the ditch do you think I'm on?
I can remember every single OD New Zealand beat Australia in the last 10 years.
With that in mind 2-2 is thinking positive.
I dont think the loss is anything to worry about and i believe we will take the tri nations cup despite tonights loss. I feel much better when were cahsing 230+
Oh and McGrath did not hit that ball!

I agree - but do you really think it wouldve made a difference to the outcome of the match??
In my opinion, we need players like Hayden and Symonds / Lehmann back in the one day side

That's quite an oxymoron you have there!

Why would you drop Steve Waugh ahead of Mark?
It's a bit like the tortoise and the hare, isn't it? We thought we had it all parcelled up twice in the game, and both times it got away from us - probably due to complacency.
At 7/94, New Zealand should have been cleaned up pretty easily. Full credit to Harris and Vettori, but 8/199 from there.... I think we could have pressed a little harder.
And at 2/98. It only took intelligent batting and a plan, but we lost it completely trying to smash them out of the park (the only way to explain Ponting and Bevan's wickets). And from there it was pretty inept.
We'll bounce back, and probably win everything from here to the finals, but it still illustrates some underlying problems. We're persisting with Steve and Mark Waugh because they're untouchable. Neither of them are necessarily vital to the structure (Hayden's a better bet as an opener, and there are a few candidates batting as well as Steve is currently) - but how do you tell them it's time? You can't. Their achievements for this side over the years seem to mean they can write their own names into the starting 11.
Plus, I would never have chosen Brad Williams. One burst against Victoria in the IMG Cup and he's suddenly the golden boy. Ian Harvey? Sorry, no place for him in this team. His bowling is useful but nothing special, and Symonds is all over him for batting.
On the plus side, it looks like Lee has found his form again. Ponting needs to temper his aggression a little once he's put us into a winning position, but until he got out he looked brilliant.
I'd overhaul the side completely. Hayden, Maher, Ponting, Martyn, Gilchrist (non-keeping captain), Symonds, Campbell, Lee, Warne, Clark (I think he'd be an excellent foil for McGrath and Lee), McGrath. Younger than the current model, all in form, a few years left in all of them (well, most), and pretty aggressive, especially the batters.

The word comical was used in an earlier post. That should of been to describe the Australian batting.
One of the worst performances I've seen. Bevan didn't want to share the strike with Ponting, who got himself out with a rash shot. Steve Waugh ran himself out, Shane Warne must of wanted 2nd's for dinner and got clean bowled, Harvey looked as bad as Greg Matthews hairstyle.
My team for tomorrow:
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Martyn
Bevan
Steve Waugh
Symonds
Warne
Lee
Bichel / Bracken
Gillespie

I think Steve Waugh's captaincy when bowling to the tail is rubbish. He did the same thing against the Proteas when Pollock was batting during the Boxing Day Test - why doesn't he attack!!!
NZ are 7/94, all of a sudden the tail enders are in so he spreads the field??
McGrath's suspension doesn't really matter, I'd say he might have been rested for today's game anyway.
I've been saying it all summer and I will say it again, why isn't Nathan Bracken in the squad? We have 5 right arm fast bowlers (McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, Bichel, Williams) in the squad - surely with the world cup just a year away it's a good idea to have a left-armer in the side?
As for the batting effort from the Aussies - pathetic. Martyn and Bevan in particular were too busy trying to get a red ink to worry about the game.
