OK - a purposely emotive thread post, but questions need to be asked about the legitimacy of the AFL commission. I was first a GFC member in 1979, am related to Gareth Andrews (VP of club, but I'm not proud of being related, believe me), but will not be renewing my membership until the game is cleaned up. I'll renew my membership when I believe the game's administration is cleaned up sufficiently.

Round 4, Port Adelaide vs. St Kilda. The AFL admits that 14 incorrect free kicks were paid, with the result 14-0 in favour of Port Adelaide. Port Adelaide wins by less than a goal. How much money is bet on each game of football? The AFL kept this fact very quiet, and held no inquest. The umpires were not questioned and officiated again the next week. What is the AFL trying to hide? Is it making too much money by licencing gambling interests?

Today, Geelong vs. West Coast. West Coast kicked got 23 free kicks to 13, and kicked 6 goals (almost half their goals) from free kicks. Gary Ablett Jr took a clear mark in front of goal that was not paid in the 4th quarter (a la Leigh Colbert at Football Park in the finals in 1997).

When does open and transparent governence become important? In Italy, as we speak, they are holding a parliamentary inquiry (the equivalent of a royal commission) into payments made to referees. Juventus, the most successful side in the past 10 years in the Italian Seria A, is likely to be relegated to Seria B and forfeit the right to compete in the Champions League (costing the club hundreds of millions of dollars).

When is the AFL going to become so transparent? When is Tipstar (largely owned by an AFL club president, Eddie McGuire) going to be investigated? How much money is bet on each game each week? The umpires are NOT currently full time employees and are not paid a great deal - does this leave them susceptible to financial inducement?

The questions are out there. What should the AFL do about it?

A good point, although i believe the umps were terrible on both sides today, it was just that WC got their free kicks in shooting range.

Many will say you are a looney or are just a 'sore loser', but what ACTUALLY needs to happen before anything is investigated?

Does it have to come down to the Grand Final, if say a team is 'favoured' by the umpires to the point that they win, OR a decision is given that wins a side the Grand final when it clearly isn't there.

I do think it is a little early though.

Sounds familiar
how about a grand final where one team, known to play the man, get a majority of goals from free kicks? Ask Polly about that one hey, he still maintains that 1967 was suspicious.

Who knows but I do know that more and more the Umps decision seems to be effecting matches.

True, but they did start the massive West Coast run. I was at the other end of the ground so I can't comment on whether the decisions were correct or not, but those 2-3 free kicks they got in the forward line during the 3rd quarter definitely got the Eagles rolling.

It's easy to blame the umps. Look at your own fitness and lack of mental toughness first. You can assess and fix those problems, you can't affect the umpiring decisions, except for getting the ball first, getting in front etc.

To blame the umpires for a 9 goal collapse is a joke.

i wouldnt blame the umpires coz it we were a disgrace but getting 2-3 easy goals can swing momentum as well which it seemed to do.

It was the deliberate oob decision that started it.
