Cresswell ideally. Lyon maybe? I don't know. Costa needs to have his list done and his dialling finger warmed up.

You should go after Sumich or Harvey

Not Harvey - Essendon seemed to be happy to let him go. Sumich would be interesting - seems to be doing well.

From what I hear about Harvey, nope. Last thing is a another coach in the Thompson mould.

Sumich, maybe? Lyon, possibly, although he has been out of footy for a bit long and is probably concentrating on the media.

Blight is going backwards and as shown by his short stint at the Saints, he doesn't really have the passion for it anymore.

Cresswell or Ron Watt are possibles.

They can live in Melbourne. Bomber does.

I don't mind the idea of Ronny Watt.

Blight is finished as a coach as he has nothing left to prove. Creswell leaving has hurt Geelong big time. I think the problem Bomber has is that he is more of a father figure to these players than a coach. He has basically molded them, tolerated and backed them since they were kids (and some still are) ... how else do you explain Steve Johnson? They are now acting like teenagers and ignoring their parent!

I have no idea who would be the next coach and I still think it is irrelevant until at least 2008. This may be the year we had to have as a wake up call. In the re-build at the club I was targeting 2005 to make the finals and 2007 as the year we would have a genuine crack at the Flag. The club just got ahead of itself. We need to go back to basics and start again with the core of the players we have - get rid of the no hopers and build on the team with the bumper draft coming up.

If it doesn't work out get Garry and Steve back as coaches!

Cressa, John Longmire, Peter Sumich and Don Pyke would be my shortlist.

Discussing coaches now does SFA for the club...

who the hell is ronny watt

He was the coach of North Shore FC and coached them to like a million premierships in a row.

He also played for them.

He also was my little sisters grade prep and one teacher.

P.S He is good.

Lyon won't give up a high paying media salary to coach a footy team.

We'll do a clean swap, Sheeds for Bomber Thompson.

If that fails just go for Mark Harvery. He'll get yo ulot into a grand final next season

I agree that Thompson should go at the end of the year, barring a complete turnaround in form. The question then becomes: who do we replace him with?

My vote (which I'm sure will draw a lot of flack) would be to give Ken Hinkley a run at the top job. My reasons?

1. Successful record. Coached Camperdown to back-to-back flags after they had won nothing for years. Coached Bell Post Hill to a flag after no success. They are only country teams, it is true, but you have to be a good players' coach to win in the country, relying on tactics and attitude rather than megastar players. He was assistant coach under Malcolm Blight (unfortunately only at St Kilda), and if Blighty rates him, he's worth a go.

2. Ex-Geelong player. The last ex-Geelong player to coach the side was John Devine in the '80's. It's about time another ex-player was given a chance, and Hinkley currently has better credentials than any other ex-player.

3. Young and innovative. Paul Roos at Sydney, John Worsfold and Alistair Clarkson have made big changes at their respective clubs and made a positive difference.

If not Hinkley, who else would people suggest?

essendon will take back mark thompson... ahh i love the supporters that call for the blood of the coach when the team is down... there is only so much a coach can do.. its the players that ultimately win of lose the game through judgement and error

We'll be taking Leigh Matthews next year, so Clarkson will be free if you want him.
Pagan and Sheedy may also be looking for a home. Whatever happens though, don't let Gary Ayers back in the gate! I'm sure Geelong supporters will agree with me on that at least.
