Might miss start of England tour

When you're in England why do you have to send your ankle scans to South Africa?
Confusion reigns over Shoaib injury

To nobody's great surprise, confusion reigns supreme over the exact status of Shoaib Akhtar's ankle injury, and whether or not it will allow him to participate in this summer's tour to England.
Reuters reported earlier, quoting Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, that the injury is a hairline fracture which might cause him to miss the first half of the tour. Inzamam said, "Right now, he has been advised one week's rest as scans have shown a slight fracture in his ankle which is also swollen. However, the chance of him joining us late cannot be ruled out. The reports about him are a bit uncomfortable for us," Inzamam admitted. "But he has done light training, so the fracture might not be a serious one. We will go by the doctor's report and advice."
But Bob Woolmer, Pakistan coach, has told Cricinfo that there "mixed opinion within the medical commission as to whether it is a hairline fracture or not." He continued: "We have now sent the scan results to South Africa to a specialist and it will take us a week to get a second opinion from them. If it is a fracture, it seems a very minor one but if it is a case of his older ankle injury (a stress fracture) having not cleared up, then he will need at least four weeks to begin bowling properly and that will leave it very tight for the England tour. But, right now we have to wait and see before any decision is made."
Despite Inzamam's apparently pessimistic diagnosis, sources close to Shoaib deny that the injury is a serious one and that he is still almost certain to travel to England with the squad. "As far as I know, that's not true at all and he will be ok for the England tour," said one, when asked to comment on Inzamam's statement.
The PCB is also unsure just now whether it is a hairline fracture and how it affects Shoaib's chances of touring. Saleem Altaf, director PCB, told Cricinfo that the results of the scan have yet to be confirmed. "The medical commission has carried out a series of tests on him but nobody has confirmed a fracture yet."
In any event, Shoaib has been training in the camp for the last few days, suggesting perhaps that the nature of the injury might not be that serious. Woolmer said, "He hass been running and training with us. Yesterday he ran 12 100m sprints and though there is some stiffness, he wouldn't be able to do that I would think, with a fracture."
Earlier in the week, it was announced that Shoaib had merely twisted his ankle and needed a week's rest, but despite all the confusion, it is now clear that the injury is more serious than initially thought.
And time too is running out; the scan results will take a week and the national selectors are due to announce the squad around June 9, though that date may now be pushed back. Additionally, if he does make the tour, Shoaib will go with limited match practice and uncertain fitness levels. Even then, as it is Shoaib, nothing will be certain until he turns up on July 13 at Lord's, whites on and red ball in hand.

You answered your own question with the bolded bit, nimrod - it was sent to a specialist. You know, you tend to send it where the specialist is, not to the country you're going to play in?

And interesting to see you're a racist ('Pakis') as well as a KP stalker. Filthy little person you are.

Since when has Pakis as a diminutive of Pakistan been considered racist? As for the specialist bit, I find it strange there's not one available in a first world country such as England. SA is a long way from the mother country.

Ever considered that maybe he might be the best specialist? That maybe SA could have a specialist who is better than one in England? Or do you just assume that because England is richer than SA, it must have better specialists?

And Pakis has been a racist term for Pakistanis for yonks - go looks up 'Pakis is racist' in Google or something. As if you didn't know that - you're simply a racist.

Well there might be a better specialist in SA but you would think they would have someone in England who could read the ankle scan rather than have it sent many k's away. And I know SA has good doctors because many are over here in senior positions. And I am not racist, there was no intention to offend, I was simply truncating the heading to fit it all in.

Why the hell would you send it to a specialist in England when the best specialist is in SA? What kind of stupid comment is that? If you have access to the best specialist, you send it to the best specialist, no matter where he is. There's this thing, you know, called the Internet, which makes communication, like, instant.

As for Pakis...there was no way you were truncating the heading. You obviously were using the racist slang for them. The Pakis thing has been well publicised, an English court charged someone for its use in 2003.

Geez, just maybe's starting to tempt me more and more into putting him on me ignore.

The Pakistanis are my favourite team from the sub-continent but I don't think too many people would contend the fact that they are a bit quirky.

Don't be uptight and sensitive, it's so obvious that he didn't mean to say Pakis are weird in a racist way

It's just creating racism, if you ain't Pakistanis themselves then don't comment on how racist you think those comments are, intention, not words, is what matters, and obviously he didn't intend it to be racist

Generally people that notice small racist things, that wernt meant to be racist, are generally the more racist.

According to Just Maybe I'm gay and racist and yet I'm neither. I'll have to watch every little thing I say. I hate to argue semantics but he had a go at Cooldude as well. Seems he's the "moral guardian" of the board and many posts are in danger of attracting only opprobium from his perspective.

I love Pakistan, they're my favourite team to watch - the fantastic, exploding, imploding cricket team. Ijaz Ahmed is my all time favourite player. I remember him batting on a wet deck at the SCG when McGrath was jagging them everywhere and he played it with ease. Shot selection was never his strength, savaging the ball through point was. The Aussies called him the woodcutter because of his batting style.

Inzamam is a close second. He has never looked in the slightest bit troubled against any bowler in the world. What about when he chased the fan into the grandstand and tried to hit him? Apparently the fan had called him 'a fat potato.' Pretty understandable reaction...

They are different. When they tour out here they've always got players whose names have changed or are now spelled differently, or they'll unearth an absolute gun then we'll never hear of them again ie Mohammed Zahid.

Cricket's wildcards.

Agree, it's hard to dislike them, they're super-talented but wildly unpredictable. Everything from alleged fudging of birth certificates to messing up the pitch during a test match. They often seem to fighting among themselves too. Hookes used to tell some funny stories about them. That's what I was referring to by quirky. Weird wasn't meant to offend. Interesting that the writer of the story started with to nobody's surprise that the Shoaib injury has become a fiasco. Seems even journos from that part of the world realise that nothing is simple in the Pakistani cricket world.

Cooldude is a tosser, what's your point? He's still hurting because I bagged his golden boy Michael Clarke.

No, the only people I don't appreciate are eddie (for obvious reasons), Cooldude (for his continuing bitterness at me) and you, for your sickening obsession with KP and flooding the board to sate it.

I'd be happy for you to put me on ignore. It would stop your petty bitter sniping whenever I post.

As for cricket knowledge...someone who spoofs over Clarke shouldn't really be accusing someone of things unrelated to cricket.

Certainly are quirky. If Shoaib wasn't to play England I'd be really worried about our chances, but they have plenty of their own injury worries.
Afridi epitomises Pakistani cricket.
