View Full Version : Dave Chappelle's Block Party
Caught this one on Saturday night and it was most enjoyable. It helped that I was a fan of most of the artists on show, but there is enough Chappelle humour (a lot of the movie is Dave organizing the concert and generally talking dopesmack) to keep most fans happy.
Most of the performances are pretty sweet, the standout being Dead Prez, who I must admit having seen zero of before the movie (which is unsurprising, which we learn in the movie). Anyway, I think it's definitely worth a look.

I'm hanging to see this, it has probably 5 of my favourite artists, plus I've been a DC fan since the late 90's with Half Baked.
ha, Dead Prez is definitely not commercial fiendly, or white-friendly, that's for certain.
But the movie has an interesting concept, that all the pro-black bands and comedians etc. i.e. the guys with a conscience about what they say - are more admired by middle class white kids than they are by people from the ghetto.
DC feels guilty about it, and I'm sure the Roots, Talib, Mos Def etc. all do as well.
I just bought Chappelle's Show Season 1 which is quite awesome, so hopefully this movie's as funny as that.

This little concert film / doco was great. Great performances (except for the Fugees) and Chappelle was his usual very amusing self. Also - Mos Def is a champ!
