View Full Version : lloyd out, who can kick 6 goals?
with the man/god lloyd out.. who in our team can stand up and kick 6 goals... i have pondered over this thought for a little while and here are my thoughts
hille... 3 at best example v collingwood
laycock.... 2 at best if tagged by decent defender
johns......3-4 tops cant expect much espec if getting a top defender
lucas.. looks out of sorts im going 4-5 tops as traffic will be to him and he dosent seem to no what to do as the lead role
gus....3 from the kid what can u expect still developing doesnt have the body to stand up
lovett.. if gets his head right 4.. 5 TOPS but on a good day
stanton.. 1-2 if that will be used more in backline/midfield.. wont really have the opportunity
what id like to see soloman and mcphee in the forward line.. both capable both seniors and havnt had massive impact in the backline this year
they add strenght which could take the pressure off the lil guys and maybe they can do more
(what id like to see)
laycock, johns, lucas, mcphee, soloman << the big bodies then gus&lovett can do their thing in the forward line and midfield
thoughts?

Lloyd, Hird and Lovett avearge 7.23 goals between them this season. Lets be conservative and say they also set up one goal each per game.
That's 10 goals missing from our side. That's a significant loss.
Well, the Cats aren't overly tall up forward, so this might release McPhee to perhaps play an attacking HF flanking role...he could bob up with 3-4 of his own. Scarlett will pretty much chew Johns as expected with Harley backing him up if the kid gets it delivered early. M.Johnno could also pinch hit n kick a bag...he's capable if he's on song!

Scarlett isn't in great form, certainly not his best form and Harley will miss this game with injury.
Johns had five shots on goal against Glass but only converted one, and kicked two last week against Rutten from limited opportunities. That's not bad going for a young player.
I'm not suggesting he'll kick a bag, but he could very well pop up with 3-4 with a bit of luck.
Our resting ruckman is going to have to kick a couple on Egan.
Ricky will kick 6 from a wing.

I'll be sure to get down to Box Hill then ;)

bastard!
stanton should be used in the forward line more, hes shown this year he can take a mark, and has a good footy brain- knows where to run

agree but i think the drive he provides off the backline into the forward line is more valued with his speed and ball carrying skills
Stanton has woeful skills, one of the worst in our team.
Personally, i can see Johns filling the void and improving as the year goes on.
Another 2-3 goals this week against Scarlett?
This consistency will set an individual benchmark which he can build on in the future.
He weighs over 100kg, has an amazing pair of hands, and his skills are improving.
His record in his 6 AFL matches is 3 goals, 6 behinds.
He only converts in front of goal 33% of the time, but his 2 goals straight last Friday suggests that he is improving, and he is more confident in front of the big sticks now that he is playing more regularly in the AFL, so i think he can step up.
A combination of 2-3 goals from numerous players might be enough for us to start winning some games.

Mate, are you serious?
Do you know what best and fairest votes are based on?
It is all about the influence the player had on the game.
Weather that be tagging (which he regularly did last year), shutting down a forward or having an impact on the game.
Stanton is a work horse and one of the fittest in our team.
He runs hard, plays well all four quarters and does not fade out like most in our team.
He also is good around the stoppages and is not afraid to get the hard ball.
How can Licuria win so many Copeland Trophies? Look at his skills.
Seriously mate, take a look at what you are saying before you post it.
Bad skills = Not a goal kicker

you made no reference to stantons goal kicking ability.. that why i say play him of the back he gives good drive in to the forward line.. he is not really a forward option.. but mark bolton is physically fit, always tries and tags.. but his skills are c-ra-p he hasnt come close to a b&f and he has been on our list for about 9 years so stantons skill cant be as bad as you state.. stanton is still a kid and developing, he wont be a judd or hird type with slick ball handling, but he will develop into quite a nice midfield unit

Name one opponent he tagged.
Bad skills = Not a goal kicker
He has a greater than 50% conversion rate when kicking at goal. Given a lot of his shots come from the 50m arc, that's not bad going at all. And pretty good for a midfielder.
His foot skills have improved each season. Gary Lyon (a noted Essendon hater) commented a couple of weeks ago during the telecast that Stanton rarely wastes a disposal by foot.
He does make mistakes, young players do that. But that is mostly caused by running himself into trouble and not taking the first or earlier option. In general execution is not his problem.
