View Full Version : What has G Aryes brought to the EFC?
Saw him on WLF the other night and heard him do a classic Mark Harvey list of excuses including that they were missing another big body in....wait for it.....Henneman.

Where were Adelaide in Ayres' last season?
Where are Essendon now?
I think there's something in that for all of us.:)
He's brought that Hawthorn winning culture.:o :D

Ah...so it is Ayres' fault. Phew...I thought it was much more complicated than that.
every footy club needs at least one cracking mullet like his.

Cmon Longy... You know there are thousands and thousands of reasons why your team is such a rabble. No-one could possibly ever list them all in the same place. ;):p
I must admit Im liking you Dons supporters more of late... Probably has something to do with Vanda not coming on for the last 12 days now. At least you demonstrate you're not all bandwagoners like her.

Apparently he's pretty popular at the club. Until friday and the Port match I thought that our backline has actually done fairly well all things considered...
We are one of the fast sides bringing the ball out of the backline... Its certainly not the weakest area of the side....

I don't know if it is coincidence but Adelaide has gone ahead in leaps and bounds since Ayres left, and Essendon have gone backwards in a big way since Ayres arrived.

Actually it does.. Last week we beat Geelong at geelong for the first time since 1990. And the week before that we beat Adelaide for the first time this century I believe.
Dont get me wrong though as I think this game is a genuine 50/50.:o

You're a much better side these days with a decent coach for the first time in a long time. At least they're having a dip.
If they lose these two games though you know there will be a thread appearing, don't you. ;)

When Gary Ayres took over the club was 13th on the ladder.

And in between they made a Prelim, a semi final, had a bad run of injuries and put together a list that is now on top of the ladder.
From the team that played on Friday, only Maric, Van Berlo, Thompson and Knights weren't coached by Ayres.

If Craig and Ayres have had the same teams to work with, and Craig is more successful then that would suggest he is the better coach.
If you look at Adelaide's history, the team was more successful immediately prior to Ayres joining and immediately after he left. Whether that is coincidal of where Adelaide were in terms of the cycle or whether he was just not a good coach is a matter of conjecture.

shizen.
But that's a bit harsh, because it's pretty hard to turn things around from day 1. As soon as he had a preseason there was significant improvement.

Significant improvement on the injury list?
I'm not suggesting Ayres is an all-time great as a coach. Only 28 coaches have coached 200 games, Ayres is one of them and with a win ratio above 50%, its not a record to be sneezed at.
Like all coaches, he's had good and bad seasons. But he has a good record as a coach and a brilliant record as a player. He is a very good acquisition as an assistant coach and our place on the ladder is no reflection of his skills as a coach.

That they do, not doubting they haven't improved under Craig, although they are still yet to achieve anything better than Ayres did.
How do you know? You may be right. Time will tell.
Just taking a calculated guess that anyone who has won ten flags, two Norm Smith's and coached 200 AFL games, might just have something worth while to pass onto young players.

Is anyone in here an insider of the Club? So that they could tell us what he has brought to the club.
Has anyone in here been inside the coaches box on match day to see what input he has?
Hell has anyone here been to the clubs training sessions to see what input he has during training sessions?
Seriously how would any of you know much input Ayres has as oppossed to O'Donnell, Wallis, Barnes, Knights, Dimma, Calthorpe et all?
Gee even the guy who started this thread knows so much about Ayres that he can't even spell his name correctly!
