View Full Version : Name a Cricket Player Game

I'm only new to this board so I hope this hasn't been done before....

I thought I'd start this game where we have to name cricket players. How the game works is simple. First, someone names a cricket player, then the next person has to name another cricket player using the last letter of the previous one's SURNAME. You can use the last letter of the surname as either the first name or last name of your player.

For example, if I said Ricky Ponting, the next person would need to use the "G" and they could say Glenn McGrath (G as first name) or Adam Gilchrist (G as surname)

Ok, I'll start... Steve Waugh

Willie Simmons (WI i think Willie was his first name????)

Bomber Spirit
24 Jan 2002, 15:47
Never heard of Willie Simmons. There was a Phil Simmons who played in the early 1990s - couldn't bat and normally couldn't bowl, although he did bowl a full 10 overs in a one-dayer once and got figures of 4/3.

Anyway, under the proviso that someone can think of a cricketer (ever at any level) named Willie Simmons:
S = Simon Katich

(PS: The editing was to correct a typo - I had Phil Simmons in the 1960s in my original post, which would have made any one-day performance truly ahead of its time;) )

Unfortunately not, it's Carl.
R = Vivian Richards. (Whose first name is Isaac).

To legitimise this game continuing, we might need to make up some details for Willie Simmons, in the tradition of Warwick Todd. Otherwise everything after Eddie Barlow is wrong.
Now there's an idea for a new thread:) and a frivolous excuse to add more to our post tallies;) :cool: :D :D :D

Why don't we just do this to tidy things up a bit:

Eddie Barlow
Wayne James (Zimbabwe) (sub'd in for Willie Simmons)
Simon Katich
Carl Hooper
Viv Richards

And for mine,

Stuart MacGill

By the way, there is one Test player whose name would probably kill off the game. I won't attempt it as this game is very popular at the moment and I'm not that type of person. :)

I can think of a Sth African from the 70's who could fit in here (Beginning with L") which prolly would end it .

Any how :

L = Garth Le Roux (if you can)

or else

L = Brian Lara

(sorry, it's been gnawing at me to add Le Roux)

Baron Baldrick,

Is your name from the legendary tv show Blackadder?? (his servant Baldrick)

Anyway, to follow on from your name, the ABC often refer to Extras as Xavier Tras or X Tras on the radio. Sorry, that's the best I could come up with!! :):)

Seriously, following on from Brian Lara, mine is:
