The sooner you Wimpy Hill fellas get it in your head that you truly are as bad as Carlton then you may stop having the false hope of some kind of advancement next year.
Sorry mate, but you're gone and will be bottom 4 for the next 3 years, MINIMUM!
Injuries to a couple of players do not explain 9 losses in a row.. A crap list with zero depth is a much more likely explanation.
The difference being we had good kids coming through and quality players who were injured, but not on their last legs.
Anything contrary to that regarding Essendon is nothing but opinion.
Dice Man, we know you are jealous because you haven't seen your mob win a Grand Final let alone play in one, while Essendon have won 4.

No it's not.
Collingwood's youngsters have been fantastic and our senior players are all performing.
Your young players are drowning in mediocrity and your ageing stars can't get on the park.

So you were -3 in 1974 then?
The sooner you Wimpy Hill fellas get it in your head that you truly are as bad as Carlton then you may stop having the false hope of some kind of advancement next year.
What do you want me to say? That my team is crap? I know theyre crap. I know it better than you and Zeke put together, as ive been to nine of them games this year and watched Adelaide on tellie. Ive read all the propoganda spewing out of Windy Hill. I know how bad they are, and it sucks. All I can say is that they wont finish on the bottom this year.
Sorry mate, but you're gone and will be bottom 4 for the next 3 years, MINIMUM!
This year and next.... yes, but I think not for 2008.
Injuries to a couple of players do not explain 9 losses in a row.. A crap list with zero depth is a much more likely explanation.
To some extent yes. The injuries we've had though, you have to admit, are important and key players. People like Lloyd and Hird out.... really does show a lack of depth, id agree.... but no team can cover those two outs. None. Look at last year for the pies, killed by injuries... now look at them.
The 9 losses we've had, many have been by less than a kick remember. Last 2 weeks we've had no excuses for, but prior to that we've been bloody close. Sure a loss is a loss, but we were blown away till the last two weeks.
Im not gonna sit here and tell you Essendon are all injury and otherwise would be ok, coz it aint true. The club has made some major blunders in recruiting and have an issue with the attitudes of their players; thats the reality.

We got sick of being in front of everyone else except Carlton. So we thought we'd let you guys catch up again.
No it's not.
Collingwood's youngsters have been fantastic and our senior players are all performing.
Your young players are drowning in mediocrity and your ageing stars can't get on the park.
Probably some truth in that.
I think you'll find that our kids will be okay, it is indeed the older players who are slacking at the moment. Doesnt help with Hird and LLoyd out, which would represent a solid chunk of our salary cap, but the team needs to be able to perform at least satisfactorily without those two. Our middle tier are killing us with laziness.
Yep, that should've sent alarm bells ringing in Bomber houses all over the country when that was announced, agreed ;)

Essendon fans should stop blaming injuries and start realising their position is due to poor recruiting, list management and holding on to fading stars too long. Believe me, as a Carlton fan I know. FWIW Why on earth would they keep on a player like Rioli whose only ambition this year is to get to 100 games then retire ? There's nothing with picking up a couple of recycled players now and then, but basically all of them picked up in the last couple of years have been disasters.
Sure you've been penalised by finishing in the finals for years and not getting early picks, but so has Brisbane, and they have quite a decent crop of young kids and they have only missed the finals once in the last 8-9 years (last year)
Hird and Lloyd cannot possibly hold that team together.

You don't read the Essendon board do you?
Essendon fans are well aware that our recruiting wasn't up to scratch. There have been a number of threads and discussions about it.
FWIW Why on earth would they keep on a player like Rioli whose only ambition this year is to get to 100 games then retire ?
Because when list lodgements were done last season he was fit, it was thought he could play a lot more footy than what he is now. It is recognised that we are a better side with a fit Dean Rioli playing. No problems with that decision.
We have nothing to gain by putting him on the LTI list at the moment. We already have three LTI and only have three fit rookies.
There's nothing with picking up a couple of recycled players now and then, but basically all of them picked up in the last couple of years have been disasters.
Who has been a disaster? Zantuck yes, I can't think of any others.
Sure you've been penalised by finishing in the finals for years and not getting early picks, but so has Brisbane, and they have quite a decent crop of young kids and they have only missed the finals once in the last 8-9 years (last year)
They finished last in that period.
Hird and Lloyd cannot possibly hold that team together.
No one is asking them to. That is why the club is currently trying to develop young players and leaders.
Anyway you're a bit late coming into this thread Longy, did you have an extended lunch break today? ;) :p

Hey Longy
You make a few fair points, but I don't think Murphy, Alvey, Matt Allan (he was okay for a year or so I guess) etc really contributed much to the club.
the big question is how the young players Essendon have will develop when so many of your senior players are woefully out of form (IE Solomon, the Johnsons etc)
It must be a bit discouraging for them when it appears (from an outsider) that these players don't seem to be as dedicated to the cause as they were a few years ago. Also Kepler Bradley has gone backwards this year, granted his a project player and will develop into a decent player IMHO, but surely a stint at Bendigo might help him out.

Alvey is a fair call. I'd forgotten him, not hard to see why.
He came as part of the Jacobs deal, Jacobs for pick 6 and Alvey.
Murphy and Allan both played finals footy, Murphy was our best finals player in 2004, Allan rucking allowed Hille to go forward and turn the game in the EF against Melbourne. We had a lot of kids still on our list play in that finals series. Playing finals is most definately beneficial to player development.
They filled the role they were recruited to do. I don't see that as a failure. You could argue against the thinking, but they did actually achieve what they were recruited for.
It must be a bit discouraging for them when it appears (from an outsider) that these players don't seem to be as dedicated to the cause as they were a few years ago.
I don't think a lack of dedication is the case, for anyone at the club. Especially Solly and the Johnson boys. Mark is getting better each week, he was probably our best player on Friday night. Dean Solomon's form is poor, he isn't playing great footy but his aggression at the footy is second to none.
JJ actually asked to spend a second week at Bendigo so he could find the form and confidence he needed to get back to playing his best footy.
The form of those three blokes is a concern, their dedication is not.
Also Kepler Bradley has gone backwards this year, granted his a project player and will develop into a decent player IMHO, but surely a stint at Bendigo might help him out.
How can a 20 year old go backwards?
He's shown glimpses of his talent, but like a lot of others he's lacking confidence at the moment. I can only guess, that playing in a defensive key position at a 20 year in a side that is battling, isn't a whole lot of fun.
He's injured this week, so won't be playing anyway. But a spell at Bendigo is very much needed, if he was playing at most other clubs, he probably would have only played half the number of games he's played over the last two years and would have given the opportunity to learn his craft in the VFL.

It didn't bother me too much that it was Essendon. It bothered me 'cos it might just have cost us a top 4 spot...ouch.
The Bombers as a whole don't bother me too much either, like Collingwood they are an Australian Football institution and footy would not be as good without them.
So I'm not being vindictive when I say they have the worst list. I just think they do at the moment.
Maybe Sheeds just lost it a bit over the past few years and has gone after the wrong type of players, 'project players' if you like. Zantuck, Campo, Cole, Cupido...I don't know why you would go for these guys. Maybe the thinking was that the brilliance of Lloyd, Hird and Fletcher would get the Bombers to another GF. We all saw what happened when one of those 3 went down.

I'll give you Zantuck and Cole. They were/are a waste of time and space in my opinion... maybe Cole will prove me wrong yet.
Campo cost us nothing and we badly needed some experienced players to balance our list. As far as kids go we have a really good group with massive potential. Unfortunately in 06, it was our mid-tier players that were either injured or out of form. Campo is a good player but that doesn't mean he's one we will rely on to play blinders every week. He's a good depth player at the most at this stage in his career.
Cupido was fantastic in his debut season for Essendon. Who was to know that he would eventually get badly injured and never be the same again. Mentally - he wasn't strong. A big shame. These sort of things can't always be picked out prior to drafting someone.

Pick #8 and #10 in one of the best drafts in a while, plus Medhurst after finishing 5th in 2006.
All we lost was Chris Tarrant who has been universally bagged as a 'dud' by everyone outside of Collingwood (and some within).
