View Full Version : Changes for Port

Any ideas?

Gardiner has been impressive, is he a chance?

I'm starting to think Waters needs a run in the WAFL.

What about someone like Bones to play on Dew up forward?

there's needs to be changes this week. Probably 3 or 4, if nothing else than to give some of the guys that are in the 15th-22nd players picked a bit of a kick up their ass to show them the coaching staff will drop them if their not at their best.

This week is one of the few weeks i don't expect a win. Port at Adelaide is a tough ask, but i'd like to see us at least put in a big effort, keep ourselves in the game for the first three quarters and then we'll see what happens in the final quarter....

I'd be happy with that

Butler is one of my favourites, all quality - as soon as fit he should be in the team.

I doubt the Gardiner one will happen though

Yeah i doubt the Gardiner one will happen unfortunately. I think Butler will be given another run in the WAFL to get his match fitness back up as well.

Will be interesting if Woosh pulls the trigger on Gardiner. Port have a strong ruck division with Lade (awesome form) and 'Punchy' Brogan. Will he go with the solid ruck work of Seaby or take a punt that Gardiner can take it up to them in the ruck and provide more around the ground?

Might be the time, but I reckon Gardy will be waiting another couple of weeks just yet.

We'd be crazy not to see what Gardiner's got left. If we leave it much longer, the horse will have bolted.

A Cox/Gardiner combo could be a huge September wildcard.

If Gardiner is fit enough to ruck, then there's no doubt in my mind that he would offer us more than Seaby.

Bring Gardiner back after the break.

Dont see a real need for any changes?

Hoping for a cracker of a game.

I think Morton is a huge chance to play, but I also think Seaby and Waters will hold their spot. Rowan Jones, although he played well yesterday may miss, also Rosa had a decent game, but he may also miss due to concussion.

Out - Rosa
In - Morton

I just don't think the team is up to traveling at the moment and with port in a little bit of good form will just be too much for us.

Out: Rosa (concussion) Waters (Omitted) Seaby (Omitted)

In: Butler Hurn (SA boys to see there families and friends) and possibly Gardiner if seaby is dropped

Out: Seaby
In: Gardiner (if he can't ruck for us this season, he'll be traded at season's end). Might as well see what he's got.

I agree with the people who are saying we'd be crazy not to see what Gardiner could do for us, but personally I'd be more inclined to bring him back in for a gimme game at home, rather than a tough road trip.

Reason being I don't think it would do his confidence any good if he got soundly beaten on a day where the team was beaten as well. He needs his confidence up, and if he came back against the Bulldogs or even Hawthorn (MCG) he could get on a roll after having a decent match where we won comfortably as well.

Gardiner and Butler both need that extra fortnight, Id love to see Morton get a go, hes got so much talent. Too bad he knows it and tries to show off a bit too much. Surprised Priddis dropped off the radar so quickly too

OUT: Rosa Waters
IN: Morton Priddis

It's the hardest week to pick.

I don't think Gardiner will be back just yet. He still needs another game or two for Claremont.

McDougall would have to be a big chance. Seaby has been down for ages, and Hansen's return has only been inflated by a couple of good last quarters. His inability to read the flight of the ball and mark above his head is a concern. However, he is still an important player to the structure of the forward line. Seaby may get the chop seeing as McD can do a bit of ruckwork.

Morton should get a game. We're missing a crumbing forward, so it would be good to see him get a shot.

Priddis, Hurn and Butler would be the other possibilities. Who would miss though? Rosa will be fine. Waters on thin ice.

100% on the money there gunnar, get him in and see what he's got. He's taken his punishment and done what he was asked to do so let's get him back.

Any chance we'll see Steven Armstrong? Either him or Priddis or possibly Butler are a chance to come in for Waters and/or Rosa.

As for big men, depends on matchups, i'd say. If we need the extra tall Gardiner or maybe even McDougs would be a chance, if we don't need the extra tall another young midfielder might come in. Either way Seaby's in trouble i'd say.

If Ash Hansen has been down and Andrew McDougall has been in good form in the WAFL (as reported) then maybe Andrew will be a chance. If he is I hope that he takes it with both hands ! (Note. I don't want to see Hansen demoted but I WOULD like to see McDougall get a game )

Forward:

Exactly. And Seaby has been really out of sorts the last few weeks.

OUT: Seaby Jones
IN: Gardiner Morton? maybe

Doogs played really well this week in the WAFL, but I think we should see if he can string a couple more games together before we bring him in. Although Hansen hasn't looked very good the last few weeks.

Pettigrew will be too tall for Nicoski - they do have a big forward line.

Looking at that maybe brett Jones is a chance

I think Nicoski can take Pettigrew, but that's just my opinion.
Who goes to Lade? That's the issue I have.

I believe that Waters should be dropped, he hasn't contributed much to the team all year, except for shirtfronting some opposition players (and he was very lucky to get only 2 weeks off for his shirtfront on the Brisbane player).

We need a small crumbing forward with defensive skills. Someone with half the ability of Philip Matera would do. We really miss his defensive skills in the 50m arc.

Pettigrew is 193cm and 88kg, Nicoski is 187cm and 79kg so it probably isn't too bad

It's gotta be Graham on Lade. I don't love the match up but we really don't have another option in the current side without bringing in Gaspar

Should be a great game guys - you've had some tough wins of late with some awesome second half play, and we've a history this year of fading after half time.

I'm not a WCE expert by any stretch, but I recall from the Geelong game a very powerful midfield display in the second half. We've been a bit hot and cold in that department this year (though very good in the last couple). If I was Worsfold I'd be watching players like Pearce carefully, and possibly Cassisi if he plays (no certainty), so if there were any changes it would be to make the midfield fit and fast.

I would guess Ezard and Thurstans won't play but watch out for Motlop. Been working hard to get his place back by all accounts.

Anyway, all the best for a cracker game and come and say hi on the Port board.

Yeah that's probably our best bet. I'm a fan of Gaspar, does his WAFL form warrant a recall? I don't see anything about it over here.

He's missed a bit of footy with an injury (1 or 2 weeks a few weeks agocan't remember what specifically) and is only really playing full games now. No way he'll be called up IMO

I would play Mitch Morton however Waters for his nice shirtfront work is a toughnut and when the eagles were trailing on the score board they were also trailing in the tackling and physical pressure department, Waters and Chick provide toughness and both players are needed if the others remain soft, at least they mean business. Seaby for Gardiner, hmm, not sure I would play Gardi at home first, after the break, and if he performs perhaps could form that formidable to think about ruck duo with Cox.

severely doubt that. Coaches tend not to tell players until the day the side is named. Especially players on the fringe, if he was a best 18 player coming back from injury that's different. However I do expect him to play, mentioned him during his press conference when asked about Gardy's chances. Would expect Rosa to miss and Morton to come in, maybe B. Jones for Hansen too.

someone asked him will gardy play this week. He said he is one of ten in contention, he went on to say he went to the game and singled out Morton's 6 goal effort. The way he was talking about Gardy it sounded like he was close, but will play possibly after the split round. Can't remember much more, sorry.

I'd like to see Doogs get a go but would be worried if Chad Cornes lines up on him and gives him a bath. Confidence will be destroyed and people will be calling for his head here.

Whats wrong with Hansen? Was he on the field in the second half or is he injured as he didnt get a touch.

I think Morton could be a very good forward for us for a few years until he is ready to move into the midfield.

We just need to be patient and not expect 5 goals in his first few games for the year. I reckon he could become a lot like Murphy from the dogs (hopefully minus the knee injury).

Heard the same thing, as I said, basically straight from Morton, that he has been told he will play. Doesn't mean much by itself, but when 2 people with no connection identify the same rumour, there may be a bit of substance to it.

Why the hell would anyone even suggest Mcdougall, how many times do you need to see him not perform, to realise he's not up to AFL standard, he should remain right where he is - Perth.

No more chances its time to go McDougall.

Maybe Woosha does it differently, but if u are a chance to get promoted to the side after playing a lower level a week before (VFL, WAFL etc) then the coach usually waits until the day of selection before telling them, as it may affect the way they train (IE not push themselves as hard as they can if they know they are in the team). I know a few clubs do it this way, but if Woosha tells them as early in the week as he apparantly has, then that's fine.

Getting back to full games for Perth at the moment
