Not trying to be a troll but i dont see the point inhaving him in the side when a person alot younger could do as good or better job as him.

His experience is worth just having him on the field.

I'd suggest you are under rating the value of Drew's experience and reliability. You can't just bring in a rookie and get them to bring to the team what Banfield does. We have enough youngsters in the 22 to make Drew's age a non issue. Also, I'd point out the Eagles are playing for 'the now', seen as how we are a premiership contender, so if a player is doing his job and doing it well at this time, there is no point attempting to replace him simply because he is over 30.

he does a job that none of the rookies could do. They all want to be playmakers like nicoski and wirra but we need a banfield/glass type and he does it better then most

He's regularly out running and marking younger opponents over the last couple of years. He ran Down Davy from behind last year and outmarked his opponeny every time this weekend
Happy to take my chances with Drew

Actually watch some footy and you'll understand why people rate players like Banfield so highly.
Banfields is very consistent. Rarely gets beaten and is experienced. Having him in defence always makes me feel confident
Nah no way. Drew Banfield is an absolute stalwart of the club great bloke good teacher for the up and comings as well?
Who do you think we should bring up instead of Banners?

Strongly agree. Best footy brain going around. Calm under pressure, never panics. Unflappable. :thumbsu:
What a silly thread. Banners has been terrific in the last two games - particularly in the final quarters. Has such a steadying influence on the backline.
A bit of time in the WAFL for blokes like Hurn won't do them any harm.

What makes you say that I dont watch much football?
I would put money on it that I watch more football than you.

If you watched Eagles games, you'd see the calming influence that Banfield has on the defence. Not only is he rarely beaten, his decision making is probably the best in the side.

Good to have Banfield back. I agree with the poster who said his decision-making is good.
Having said that, he did worry me a couple of times on Sunday almost getting run down with the ball. Pace never was his virtue, and even less so now. Always take the first option Banners!

I have to disagree here. Have you forgotten seeing him run down Davey and tackle him last season? He's still good for another season or so ;)
yeah, what everyone has said, hes just so consistent and experienced. in a team like ours which is so young and inexperienced, we really need a few guys like banners, cuz, wirra and chick. guys with alot of games under the belt that dont panic and get their jobs done week in week out.
