It is been comfirmed that South Africa will host the first ever Twenty20 World Cup in September 2007. The Tournament will run for 9 days towards the very end of the month. Three South African cities will host the matches which will consist of the 10 test nations and two qualifiers.
Looks pretty likely that Wanderers will be one of the host cities with the others to fight it out for the two other spots.
It seems that the ICC is embracing the Twenty20 concept and holding the tournament where Twenty20 cricket is very popular. Should be good for the game financially/commercially and may boost its profile around the world as this is the super-short version of the game.
ICC still ignoring player demands for rests and crams another tournament into an overloaded game schedule.
