The skipper of the club.
The leader on the field.
The elite when fit.

I am just curious to get some thoughts on him from some Richmond supporters...
He started on the bench on the weekend.
Why was that?
I know he is getting old (how old is he by the way), but why start the captain on the pine?
Is he over his injury?

Was the right choice for the captaincy at the time, but not contributing enough to keep going.

Make Richo captain.

Richo was a disaster as a captain a couple of years ago when Campbell did his achilles. I love Richo but he's not captaincy material. Sugar is recovering from injury, give him time. Besides, its great that we don't need him to play 120 minutes and get 30 touches to win games because there's actually some depth to our midfield.

jonno is probably the teams least effective kick and handballer. Turns it over alot too

Which is why I suggested it was a good decision to make Johnson captain and not Richo. But Richo has matured a lot in the past couple of seasons and his effort and temperament this season has been exemplary. When he plays, he is the one senior player along with Bowden that shows real leadership out there.

I dont think Bowden could take othe additonal responsibility without it affecting his game. But Richo would thrive on it

The old scapegoat crew back in action. Don't worry about watching him and what he does on the field, just form an incorrect opinion then stick to it regardless, it's what you do best.

You can all get stuffed if you dont rate johnson. You wouldn't have a clue with all the work he does on and off the field. sheesh

I was basically going to ask the same question regarding Kane Johnson.

In 2002 (his last year at the Crows) I rated Kane Johnson on par with Andrew Mcleod, Mark Ricciuto and Simon Goodwin but over the last 4 year he has gone backwards.

Had he stayed with the Adelaide Crows I was sure he would have had a Brownlow in his trophy cabinet by now and he could have won the Brownlow instead of Mark Ricciuto in 2004.

When he went back to Victoria he was on the verge of being a top 10 (AA) player but now I doubt he would lucky to get a SOO Victorian jumper. Pity as he was a gun and I rate him highly.

Good player but certainly has not been as effective since coming to Richmond.

Tough and gets plenty of the ball when fit however pretty average disposal and no penetration in his kicking. Also rarely kicks goals which would be ok if he was setting heaps up but he turns over the ball an awful lot.

Seems to be fairly quiet on and off the field which dosen't have to be a bad thing. I think he has been fairly servicable as a captain but probably time to look a fresh blood at the end of the year to take us forward.

Hopefully this doesn't mean I have to get stuffed!

So back to my original question...
Is he over his injury?
He has played 80% of game time the last two weeks, but he started on the bench on the weekend.
Will he start on the field again from now on do you think?
How old is he by the way?
And also, is he worth picking up in dream team for that price?

no mate, i'd steer clear of him im currently 10 in the league and was seriously considering him as a trump card to tackle the leaders but im afraid he will fill a more defensive role for the remainder of the season. Our midfield is doing enough without him and he will tag blokes for a good part of the rest of the season. My dream team advice would be to get on patty bowden still reasonably cheap and the role terry has him playing will see consistent point scoring. Also petts is worth considering, getting a bit pricey though.

How is it a proven fact?, All I know I've noticed him waste a lost of disposal over the last couple of years, however if you have the stat's to prove me wrong post them up.

Johnson has the lowest clangers per game of anyone at the club this year
Therefore he doesn't turn it over alot

Not sure how to answer this one, because on one hand l strongly believe that his disposal is downright ordinary at times, is far too injury prone, lacks the presence on the field to win a game on his own.

But on the other hand, l actually like l'm betrying a bloke that was clearly the best person for the job at the time he received it. He has the respect of his players and that is a definite must and is still in our best 18 regardless of what anyone says.

I say give him until the end of the year and hand it over to the one person on our list that absolutely deserves it.

JOEL BOWDEN

He wants it, he displays awesome leadership skills both on and off the ground, he is astute in being able to teach and educate the youngsters on how to set up our structure on game day. He loves the club and IS currently the best player at Tigerland.

Ps. review this in two years... happy to turf him out if he's shisen.

in a nut shell wally. Bowdo is the man.

infamy i know i say this alot but......... Poor disposal doesnt always equate to a "clanger" kane is the king of giving a pointless handball to a bloke that is micro seconds away from being hospitalised. This is poor disposal and indirectly a turn over but not a "clanger". It may even be downstream and mean that the next bloke is forced to cough up a clanger, as a result of kanes poor decision making.

Until the last couple of weeks where he has given off sharp first options, he has been a culprit of these actions, been going on for the time he's been at the club.

But been happy with his last two games, i like him in a defensive role run with role and the players obviously look up to him. Been numerous occasions this season where he has rallied the troops for what looks to be an animated fire up,cant complain with that, and good for such a young side. He was also first in to let that the big goof ball rawlings know that charging the kids wont be tolerated.

Kane as a run with role definitely in best 18, kane as a play making midfielder-not in best 22.
