View Full Version : Why is Cleve Hughes playing in Coburg Reserves??

Just out of interest, can anyone tell me why Cleve is playing in the Coburg 2's?
Too many forwards in the seniors, Limbach kicked 7 the week before so earned a callup, Schulz playing well plus the Coburg boys, can't fit everyone in. Plus we were playing Frankston so can only field a maximum of 12 Richmond guys in the side so someone had to miss.

Thanks for that Jezza. So, is Selection in the Coburg seniors form based or do they have a rotation policy? If so does that hinder a players chances of getting a Richmond senior call up?
Seems to be pretty much form based, although there will always be pressure from above to play the Richmond guys ahead of Coburg players and in their preferred positions.

Thats cool. I guess It just maks the players realise they have to work their guts out to get selected, which is great. It will make them better in the long run. It wiil also sort out who has got what it takes to who has not.
Hughes and Casserley in the reserves is no big deal at this stage of their careers. Moore (3 weeks back from injury) and Roach running around in the early game is more of a concern. At this stage of his career Roach should be one of the 12 guys getting a game for Coburg at the very least.

Isn't there are 12-10 rule. With shulz and limbach coming through we probably didn't need him

Yeah, but that was more for disciplinary reasons, he forgot his orthotics the week before so could only manage half a game. Got dropped as a reminder not to forget them again.

Id rather have Cleve Hughes in than the old dinosaur Stafford.

That was the reason given at the time, although it was also because if he'd played for the Coburg seniors, he'd only have got a 3 day break before playing for the Tigers. Therefore he played for the 2nds to give him a run before his call up.

i know his uncle, when they lost to sydney he asked terry if he could be droped because he was so dissapointed, tryed to talk him out of it but he couldn't handle the loss. it's a pitty cause it wasn't soley if at all his fault.
