i. How do you rate the young man, this season.

ii. Do you see him on the list in 5 years? A integral part of the side, a bit part fringe player, long delisted perhaps?

Too small to make it? A future in and under gun 'rover'?

i can see him with us long term, will never stand out like the cogs, but if our team develops as much as we want it to he should be part of that second string midfield that gives the guns a rest

he's not afraid of doing the tough stuff and you can tell he's determined as hell to get there. he'll be what rodan should have become just needs one more preseason imo to get everything right.

so that would be 'an integral part of the side' and 'an in and under gun.'

He'll make it. :)

I'm confident enough to say that he'll play 100 games of AFL football, hopefully they are all in the yellow and black! ;)

as blue collar as they come, i can see him becoming a brodders in a few years, still only 20 isnt he?

He'd be seen in much better light if we didnt have so much to compare him with. We have nearly 10 young gun midfielders, where he fits in the line is anyones guess, but l'd be disappointed if we lost him.

Brodders was just as much "silk" as he was "blue collar" though

yeah true, particularly when you compare their foot skills. but seen foley flick out a couple of brodders like handballs in recent weeks that are very alfie langer like to the naked eye. Maybe hes kicking can improve, hydes has out of site, he's disposal up until this year was very shabby. Cant decide if it was a confidence thing or he has tampered with technique.

I have got more enjoyment watching blokes like Hyde, Pettifer, Axel and Fryers blossom into little generals for our club, than watching the youngsters who we pin a lot of hope and expectation on.

It shows that we have the right football department in place, if we continue to uncover hidden diamonds. Petts was one of the those young guns we placed so much expectation on, but only one coach has been able to bring that out of him... the other one Frawleyed him!

Cant decide if it was a confidence thing or he has tampered with technique.Think it is a confidence thing , you`ve only got to look at the way a number of our boys are backing themselves at the moment , not just Hyde ... the lift in our performance is based very much on a greater confidence throughout the whole team for mine .

Be interesting to see if we can maintain it for the remainder of the season .

In days of yore , a team would only have to rattle off three or four in a row and we would fall like a deck of cards , but not lately ( with the exception of 2 games this year )

Pettifer was your classic example of a high draft pick thinking that because he was a number 7# pick meant he had already made it (see Rory Hilton)

Getting drafted , no matter how high you are taken , is only the start of it .

Does not matter if you are taken number 1# or number 80# ... still have to work just as hard and this is where Kayne`s problems lay .

That example alone for mine could not polarise better the difference between Frawley and Wallace

As cliched and as oppositionistic as it sounds, he's gonna be our Libba.

He has a baby face now, but in 2 or 3 years time he's gonna have a killer face, a face that hunts and feeds and preys on unsuspecting dufuses like Queen Solomon.

I was rapt to see him start in the centre against North.

Why would we lose him? We gave him a chance, and he came good. Seems to put his body on the line for the club. Can't see Axel going anywhere.

For what it's worth im a big fan.

Very pro-Nathan.

Wally.. in regards to where he fits in??? TW saw fit to start him in the centre against the Roos.

I reckon TW sees him as our Libba, someone who will never give up and will always fight out of his division.

.

Can see where you are coming from and as much as l'd love to have Libba style footballer at Richmond (minus the whinging 'l'm so hard done-by' attitude), l honestly believe he'll turn into someone with better skills than that. I reckon Newman and A. Kellaway are perfect examples of what Axel will be, never really get the qudos for their efforts displayed on the field - except from within!

Where would you 'rest' him or play him whilst not in the guts? In modern football you need to roatate 10-12-15 players though there.

Could he offer something in a forward pocket? A back flank? etc.

Unfortunatly looks very 1-dimential, a rover but not much else.

Regardless he seems to have enough Tim Fleming about it to make it, regardless.

When l say lose him, its not as if someone poaches him, but we lose him because he's not as fashionable as our big name, more flashy players... that's all!!

Id rest him right on the bench. We have enough foward flanks and pocket players who are more dangerous than Axel, and we have better solid 'mid' defenders for down back.

He's prefect as an in and under play to relieve Cogs and Tucky, and you never know./ KB was a small rover who turned into a pretty handy foward pocket;):p

Wait till he starts getting full games and develops a bit more. Will be a 20+ possession a game getter, no doubt about it.

His term in the guts last weekend was as good as any I've seen him play. Is developing into the exact player we have been thriving, an "engine room" to fire out the handball. He can get it in the crunches, knows how to spot a teammate, knows where to be. Love players like this.

In many respects, he may be like Adrian Fletcher... good enough to get a game with 4 clubs but probably not quick enough by foot to stay on their lists. He always seemed to be the first to get the chop when his side had a bad year... not that he was their worst player by any means!

Now that Foley gets around in the white boots, he looks like a shorter version of Joel Bowden! Another player he could develop into is a Brett Ratten type - would be very happy with that!

Well after all he IS a bogan from Colac.

His Dad used to play against my club - quite a good player - his nickname was helmet, because he had a bowl-cut hairstyle.
