The first half of the season is ceased. Some players have struggled, whilst others are flying.
John Anothony (HB/CHB) SAFE. First year player.
Nathan Buckley (FP/C) SAFE. Champion. Looks very threatening in the forward line.
Scott Burns (Mid/FP) SAFE (excluding retirement). Has found some old form. Impact player these days.
Blake Caracella (HF/Mid) MIDDLE OF THE ROAD/SAFE (excluding retirement). Can he play league football again?
James Clement (BP/CHB) SAFE. Champion. Rarely gets beaten in a marking contest. Rarely gets beaten at all.
Cameron Cloke (FF/R) SAFE/MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Still learning the trade. Young KPP.
Jason Cloke (BP/CHB) UNSAFE. No opportunities, No room, No spot. Sorry Jason.
Travis Cloke (CHF) SAFE. Promising tall. Still learning the trade.
Ryan Cook (HF/Mid) SAFE. First year player.
Ben Davies (Mid/HB) SAFE/MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Hard-running midfielder. Needs to consolidate.
Leon Davis (FP) SAFE. Dangerous small forward. Excites the crowd.
Alan Didak (FP/Mid) SAFE. Has gone up a notch. Very skillful and smart. The premier small forward in the league.
Chris Egan (HF/HB) SAFE/MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Needs a lot of time in the system. Elusive.
David Fanning (R) MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Is he a one-trick pony? Needs to consolidate and fast.
Josh Fraser (R/HF) SAFE. Excellent around the ground. Mobile. Key to our premiership chances, perhaps?
Brent Hall (CHB/CHF) UNSAFE. No hoper.
Brodie Holland (Mid) SAFE. Can play two types of football. Is more important than people give him credit for.
Adam Iacobucci (Mid) MIDDLE OF THE ROAD/SAFE. Holland-esque, but can't hurt on the scoreboard.
Sam Iles (BP/Mid) SAFE. First year player.
Ben Johnson (HB/Mid) SAFE. Runs through the lines. Goes long.
Paul Licuria (Mid) SAFE. Workhorse. Runs, Runs and Runs.
Tarkyn Lockyer (HB) SAFE/MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Sharp Skills. Cool under pressure. Can he go on another year?
Ryan Lonie (Mid/BP) SAFE. Revolved. Good tagging player. Can do it both ways.
Nick Maxwell (HB/CHB) SAFE. Good mental attributes. Calm under pressure.
Chad Morrison (HB) UNSAFE. Slow. Shocking skills. Gone.
Shane O'Bree (Mid) SAFE. Looks quicker, for obvious reasons. Underrated.
Scott Pendlebury (Mid) SAFE. First year player.
Simon Prestigacomo (FB) SAFE. No fuss. Just goes by his business.
Guy Richards (R) MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Can he take the next step required?
Anthony Rocca (FF) SAFE. Man-Mountain. He and Fraser are the keys.
Julian Rowe (Mid/HB) MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Athletically built. Good leap. Does he do enough at AFL?
Sean Rusling (HF/Mid) SAFE/MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Looking to improve. Very quick.
Heath Shaw (HB) SAFE. Has grown (as a footballer) in giant stides. Backs himself. 2006 Rising Star?
Rhyce Shaw (HB/Mid) SAFE. Collingwood at heart. We need him back in the side ASAP.
Danny Stanley (HB/Mid) SAFE. First year player.
Dane Swan (Mid) SAFE. Arguably the most improved player in the league. Midfielder who kicks goals.
Chris Tarrant (HF) SAFE. Super talented. Big motor. Does he do enough, though?
Dale Thomas (HF/Mid) SAFE. First year player.
Shane Wakelin (CHB/BP) SAFE (excluding retirement). Courageous. Reads the play well.
Tristen Walker (HB/FF) UNSAFE. No opportunities. Get out the Melways, sorry tex!
O'Brien will be promoted. Maybe Cox.
Nicholls and Toovey might spend another year on the supplementary list.
Thoughts?
I reckon Morrison and Walker are definitely gone, whilst Iacobucci and Hall are probably gone. Jason Cloke will request a trade at years end IMO.
Players that need to lift next year to keep a spot on the list the following year include Rowe, Davies, Fanning and Richards.
I think we might delist more than 4
Other than Cloke, Morrison, Hall and Walker, I'm not entirely sure at this stage who it might be.
Perhaps Wakelin and Burns will retire and Fanning may get traded.
Am I right in saying lists have to be cut to 35 by draft day (I think I read that somewhere)?

Mick will use Cloke as trade bait. But I see your point, he won't be at the club next year! ;)

We could squeeze another year out of Burns. Wakelin could retire.

Not sure.
Cloke - TRADED
Walker - AXED. Traded at best.
Hall - AXED
Morriosn - AXED
Fanning - TRADED. Axed at worst.. Or Wakelin - RETIRED
There are my six suggestions, anyhow.
Brent Hall is an absolute monty to get the ass, and he should. He is terrible.
Walker - gone - trade, delist whatever, just get rid of him!
Morrison - gone
Fanning - gone

And what happens if there are no takers for Jason Cloke? Do we delist an experienced player remembering we had a clean out at the end of 2003 and we were exposed for our lack of depth in 2004. You can't have twenty first or second year players on yout list, thats a recipe for disaster when the injuries hit.
Gone Tex
Hall
Morrison
A player to be named later, maybe two.

Rusling surely has to be safe rather than middle of the road/safe.
Second year player who showed a lot of promise. Safe as houses in my opinion.

Neither Buckley nor Burns will be on the senior list next year.

How many retire and how many are traded will have an enormous impact on delistings. If we traded, say, Cameron Cloke and Ryan Lonie, and Wakelin and Burns both retired, that's four vacancies right there. I really can't see them wanting to fill more than six or seven spots on the list at the end of the year. It becomes counterproductive to turn your list over too much in any given year unless, like Hawthorn last year, you have a stack of early draft picks. Sure, you get rid of some pedestrian performers -- and it's always satisfying to do that -- but you end up replacing them with kids who you've secured with very late picks in the draft. And almost by definition, these kids are lowish odds of making it as senior players.
IMO the best strategy is to temper the machete-wielding so that every year you're weeding out only the lost causes. Every list can have a few 'project' players, and you can afford to allow your recruiting staff to take the odd 'punt' with a youngster late in the draft. but too many late picks and too many projects are a losing draft strategy in the long run, I reckon.
Delist:
Morrison
Walker
Hall
J Cloke (only if we can't trade him)
Retire:
Burns?
Wakelin?
Caracella?
If we got rid of six, that'd allow us to elevate Harry O, have four picks in the national draft, and one in the PSD. That sounds about right to me.

Agree with this summary. The obvious 3 or 4 that everyone has mentioned will be delisted. May be a retirement or 2. They may try and trade someone within our top 15 players in an effort to get another top 20 pick in the superdraft as well.

He's safe if he doesn't break down again.

Yep, that has a lot of merit Harry.
The issue then becomes who do we trade, that will get us another top 20 pick.
It would have to be one of our best 22 to entice a club to give up a first round or low second round pick

Ryan Lonie would be the best candidate to trade to pick up about pick 15-20.

j. clo should be kept as a depth player if he is willing to stay.
morrison-out
caracella-out
hall/walker-out if the coaching staff think that they are a lost cause
rowe- out
richards-trade, will he ever be fit?
i think we will have at least 1 retirement as well
Ryan Lonie would be the best candidate to trade to pick up about pick 15-20.
Yep that may work
Maybe Lockyer could get pick 20 - 25
Leon is worth about the same IMO
I can't believe no one has mentioned Iaccobuci for trade/delist at the end of the year. He has shown nothing for Willy or Collingwood and currently sits at the end of a long list of midfielders waiting their time in the magoo's. Rowe, Davies, Pendlebury and Cook will all be fighting for a midfield/HFF spot for Collingwood next year and Booch will not have any chance.

Rowe, Davies? are you kidding? The booch would definetly be more of a player then those 2. he can kick the ball. The booch has been struggling with injuries just give him a full preseason and he will show his worth.
Rowe is rubbish, you wont even get a 3 rd pick for him

FWIW, I believe Walker is contracted for next year and will stay. I hope he actually gets fit and learns how to use what he's got for us.
brent Hall on the other hand.....................meat bomb

Booch will get another pre-season to prove himself.

Whilst i'm not enthusiastic, I believe Walker offers the club more than Hall.
Hall will go, Walker will stay. Seems only fair.

Only megaduds get sacked after two seasons. Even Brent Hall has a third year. Yakka will be at Collingwood in 2007.

Scott Burns
 Scott Burns?
For the people thinking of players like Iacobucci being delisted, I always say the same thing. Where was Dane Swan at the same point in his career?
I thought Rowe's game on Queens B'day was ok. But next year would be his absoloute last chance.

Everything is 100% correct in my eyes except for a couple of little niggles.
Players such as Davies, Rowe and Rusling are definitely going to be on the list next year. And players such as Lockyer, Richards and Egan will be integral parts of the Collingwood FC in 2007. Richards even has the possible chance of being the future #1 ruckman at Collingwood with Fraser as a forward (Replacing Pebbles & Bucks) and a part-time, relief ruckman and Lockyer has shown in the 1st half of this year that he is our best deep small back line player. (Excluding Shaw, who is more of a rebounding half back flanker)
But overall, that was very very well done.
