One game played so far.

Travis Gaspar - Got spanked in the first half 3 goals kicked on him and those 3 goals were pretty much the only 3 opportunities Peels FF got. Second half he stood up and kept him goalless. One of his best defensive games he has had in quite a while. He needs to play alot more like he did in the second half if he is to retain his spot. 14 possessions 4 marks in the end.

Ashley Sampi - FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!, does something worth noting and actually looked interested and looked like he was trying (still tired out in the last qtr though :thumbsd: ). 24 possessions 12 tackles 3 goals 10 marks, and quite a few hardball gets (i believe 7). The best WAFL game he has ever played, still wont get recalled due to the fact he didnt run out the game.

Ashley Thornton - Much better look in defence then he was up forward. He is quite a good defender and dare I say has probably shown equal form to that of Travis Gaspar over the past month, his embarassing motion (worst kicking action i have ever seen) he calls kicking however will probably result in him being turned over next year

Ben McKinley - One of his better games for the year, still has no idea how to shoot for goal (i think he has kicked something like 8 goals 20 behinds??) but he would of directly himself set up about 5 goals, two footed player who is a smart footballer, too bad he cant kick that well atm (thats more the OP then anything). He is getting better however he is playing on a half forward flank, he needs to play deeper IMO if he wants to crack a game however playing up close in the forward line is pointless for East Perth with Troy Wilson down there.

Michael Gardiner - 18 possessions 11 marks and around 25 hitouts, with 3 goals 1 behind, spent a bit more time up forward mainly because Swan Districts played with no ruckmen (there best ruckmen went down in the first 20 seconds). He ran hard all day and provided a option all around the ground. Its the best he has moved in about 5 years, looking good below his knees and can actually turn now. Give him one last crack, too much talent to throw away without giving him one last chance

Mitch Morton - 14 possessions 5 marks 1 goal, owned all day by his opponent who did a good job on him. A step back from him IMO, he just cant show any consistency in his form which is needed to get into the team. One thing ive noticed about Mitch is if he doesnt have a good first half you can guarantee he will not turn it around and have a good second half, throws in the towel a bit too easily for my liking. Needs to develop mentally if he wants to be a AFL star.

Brett Jones - 25 possessions 11 marks, Best on Ground for Claremont cos he provided so much run and drive from defence, his opponent kicked 3 goals on him however but the effectiveness of Jones possessions and his marks (alot of em goalsaving) meant he had the better off his opponent. I got a inkling he will get a callup next game

Ashley Hansen - Hopeless really, however the the Swans midfield didnt help, Hansen had around 10 possessions and only took about 4 or 5 marks. He has to be the worst WAFL player I have ever seen, struggles reaaaaaaaaaalllly badly at this level and will not get into the team based on his form. He lead all day though, thats about the only positive in his game.

Info on Perth Subi game is a bit shaky as the game was played in the middle of the desert......

Sam Butler - Perths best midfielder with approx. 30 possessions, his disposal was damaging as always, didnt kick a goal which is surprising and odd. Another one really pushing for selection come Round 13 v Bulldogs. He is clearly a level above WAFL

Andrew McDougall - No info on him yet will find some when WAFL release stats. He didnt kick a goal however and wasnt anywhere near Perths best from what I seen so far.

Saw him at half time on TV of the Eagles game. Things like this really bring down the credibility of the information provided on this thread.

The WAFL website had him with 22 possessions..... I was wondering who our emergency was, I assumed it was McDougall cos I cudnt find any stats for him.

So what you're saying is that you make performance evaluations based on statistics?

Well you dont think he travels to all 4 WAFL games over the weekend. He justs makes it up and rehashes whats in the paper. Fraud comes to mind!

Is OP a disease only for youngins? Never seem to hear of older players getting OP. Why is that?

McKinleyISgood
19 Jun 2006, 05:26
answering your q about OP, according to the expert-wikipedia.., it could occur more often in younger players who have built up muscle but dont have a fully matured body. this places strain on the bones involved in movement. Im pretty sure kouta had it a while ago so i guess its not just 'youngins'. annoying condition for sure, maybe it means he will grow a little taller though lol

Brett Jones is surely in contention for a game after the break yeah?

Seems to perform every week, much like his namesake Rowan Jones did last season.

I did those on Sunday and not Monday when the paper comes out

Im still waiting for this time machine to be invented so i can personally see all 4 games, maybe one of yous can volunteer to drive 8 hours to the desert to watch Sam Butler and McDougall play.

He means that they're similar to his reports on EFH.

Why doesnt anyone else just do it instead of whinging about someone atleast trying to do it.

Itd stop Embers from doing it and stop the whinging and allow us to actually talk about the players actually playing in the WAFL

Anyway The Worst states that Doogie boy had 12 marks and was one of Perths best across half forward. Any chance of a recall???, we could do worse (Ash Hansen worse).

I think he will be recalled after the break.

I thought you are being a bit hard on Hansen, but still your thoughts.

Good to see Sampi playing well again, and Gardy is playing like a man possessed. Sampi still needs to show he is consistent and produce some more results before he gets back in again, however the door is now opened for Gardy.

Thanks for your report Embers - despite its shortcomings I still glean a bit of info from it and it generates discussion.

I don't know whether he is being hard on Hansen or just wants to see some good form by McDougall rewarded.

Embers is really on a hiding to nothing with these reports....

Interestingly enough, Woosh on 6PR last night said that Doogs's form is very encouraging but, he will not be bought into the team until he is dominating in the WAFL. When we bring "Doogs back into the team, we want him playing on the best AFL defenders."

Take what you want from that.

I'll refrain from the Doogs bashing, for a change

I heard that aswell and I took it to mean that he wants Doogs playing well against AFL FBs, not just WAFL talls. That probably means he really has to dominate WAFL severly, which he's taken a few steps towards.

That makes it sound as if they want McDougall at Full Forward ! With Lynch in form that might be a tough ask for Doogs. I thought that Centre Half Forward or even Half Forward Flank might work better; positions where he DOESN'T get the best defender and can use his height and athleticism to advantage !

True ^^^^^

But if they did bring Doogs back into the team (and I still highly doubt that he has the fire in the belly to make it at AFL level), I wish they wouldn't just piegon hole him in at FF.

Granted, Lynch racks up midfielder stats when he's at CHF.

But there's no reason not to try Doogs at CHF or a Fwd Pocket or a Half Forward Flank, for your reasons stated above.

I still believe if Doogs makes it back in, a tall needs to be dropped.
Has to come from a forward, Ash Hansen the most likely (but I don't agree with it).
Others to make way would be Staker or Lynch, which IMO, ATM is no chance.

If Gardiner is successful in his comeback, thats another tall (Cox & Gardiner) that will be rotated in the fwd line.

Suprised to read how poorly Mckinley's accuracy is going. He was a lovely set shot at TAC level.

Its not as if woosh is going to say on 6PR that doogs is useless and has no chance. Obviously if he's dominating in the WAFL consistently then he has to be looked at. But... as if thats gonna happen :P
