You are the saints recruiting department and have been offered to choose any 3 players from around the country to join your club.
who do you choose and a little explanantion of why:

mine:
1. Judd: add speed to the midfield and obviously the best player in the afl, would be picked by every club.
2. Cox: clearly need a great ruckman to join the club, tossing up between cox and fraser, would choose cox because he has shown his great skill for longer, but fraser has potential.
3. Rutten: Glass would push him, but rutten has proved time and time again his quality defensive skills and would take the second best forward (hudghton is better i reckon) and maul him.

what are ur thoughts?

Great players nudge and Browny of course rubbers0ul but all of them would see us have problems with the cap.

Were we to have massive retirements and delistings we may fit them in but then we would be vulnerable to injury problems (no depth).

Forgetting that, Judd, Cox, Rutten or Judd, Cox, Brown would be an enormous boost. That said Lade for Cox might be just as good, and Scarlet for Rutten - similar benefit. Cooney or Hodge would also be nice inclusions.

Trying to keep real, this upcoming draft has been hailed as being one of the best draft years ever. We would be reluctant to give up draft picks unless the trades were truly advantageous to us. An influx of kids next draft will mean we can maintain our competitiveness for years to come. We need to get some midfielders coming through, we need another key defender and we need a ready-made ruckman.

Spider Everitt has shown interest in returning to St Kilda, he doesn't fit our profile of potential recruits, but he is a class ruckman who can play forward and contribute around the ground. I personally wouldn't have him back, but I couldn't blame the club for considering him.

Sam Gilbert will come through shortly, (he's already played one match). He is a tall defender, although I'm not sure that he will be a key defender as he seems to be the more running type player.

We have a few players coming through who may potentially be what we are looking for in the midfield, but it is unlikely these will be the A list players every club dreams of getting with a late draft pick. So for the time being, I expect we are going to have to make do with the list we have got.

There is a lot of talent there. Many an armchair expert can point out that players like Ackland, Blake, Schwarze, Peckett, Brooks, Ferguson, Rix, Thompson, Murray and others on our list are dead weight. This is not true, many of these players are good ordinary players - they may never develop into stars of the game, and in generations of the future, they will be forgotten. But these players are cheap and handy. They allow us to have a larger number of really good players on our list. If all is going well, most of these players shouldn't get a game but all is not going well. We have been riddled with injuries and many of those players I named earlier have become regulars in our team.

The more "superstars" we put into our team, the less money we have to retain the next level of players and the more gumbies we will have to put on our list to replace those middle tier players that are lost.

yeh brown would be a good inclusion, but our forward line has plenty of spark just needs to stay on the park
btw u guys see what happened to kosi on tv today? i heard he collapsed, my mate told me, can anyone fill me in on the details?

yeh good point, salary cap pressures would make it impossible to draft 3 awesome players and maintain a consistent list, but i was just interested in who ppl thought would best suit the saints

How the hell is Brown on the verge of becoming the greatest player of all time?

Anyway I'd have 1.Judd
2.Rutten
3.Cooney

Exactly what we need to become a better team our forward line is perfect as it is.

Judd- will add leg speed to our midfield and will gives us that explosive midfielder that we could really do with. Our midfield is a bit one paced and an explosive midfielder like Judd will compliment our midfield. However he will also add to our toughness and in and under work in our midfield. Normally we do well in the contested ball but sometimes can be shown up when Ball, Dal Santo and before his injury Hayes have quiet games.

Cox- Well known that we lack a quality ruckmen and Cox is probaly the best ruckmen ust ahead of Lade. A quality ruckmen can be a very important player and Cox would help our midfield which has learnt to rov opposing ruckmen.

Goodes- He is the best utility player in the comp and can play forward, back, midfield or in the ruck. In situations when say Kosi and Hamill are out and Riewodlt is being kept quiet we could chuck him forward. If we were struggling down back we could send him back as a loose man in defence or as CHB. Then in other times we could use him in the midfield where he would add flair to our midfield. He is such a hard person to match upon and it would be very unlikely that teams would be able to match up both Riewodlt and Goodes because they have such endurance and agility for kep position players.

You would be joking wouldn't you, our forward line is our biggest problem this year. Between Gerigh's lack of aim, Mline's lack of form and Riewaldt having to overcome a good 3 or 4 players just to get the ball.
The 3 players i would pick would be
1.Jonathan Brown
2.Paul Chapman
3.Shaun Burgoyne
At the end of the year assuming Harvs, thompson and G-Train leave this is a realistic pick up. We'd have another good target up front to take the pressure of Riewladt. Chapman would add some much needed flare to the forward line and can cover in the midfield when needed, and the run of Burgoyne out of the backline would be extremely helpful.
