Do you think Brisbane's Jason Akermanis is worth picking up at the end of 2006 - assuming Brisbane don't offer him a new contract?

I think he is, he is a class act. Who cares what his opinions are he is a freak on the football field. He adds that extra speed/class that Essendon lack at the moment.

Thoughts?

I would take him for sure, a deal like 3rd rd pick and Mark Bolton would satisfy us??

Do you honestly think he would want to come to a club in Essendons position?
He may only have a couple of years left to play and he certainly wouldnt want to play for the rabble that is Essendon

There wouldn't be many better players in a pre-season draft than him

1. If we got him for nothing. Yes.
2. If we had trade/deal/wrangle. No.
Too old, too risky.

no risk involved at all, his going to be a great player for the next 3 yrs at least

You mean 3 years at most.

He is a very good player, but you dont trade for these types.

Two points

1) he is contracted to brisbane next year so he has to be traded

2) Matthew Lloyd has already come out publicly and declared he wouldnt really suit our club.

Then what is the point of Essendon recruiting Jason Akermanis if they arent near a Premiership?

No he doesn't.

Brisbane can delist him, but if he isn't picked up, they have to pay out his contract.

Ty Zantuck was contracted to Richmond last year. We delisted Daniel McAlister when he had a contract, hoping someone else would pick him up. We redrafted him rather than paying him out.

Sorry Longy i forgot i had to put up a super technically correct answer for you ;) I know the situation was the same with Zantuck but lets face it we are talking chalk and cheese.

So you are confident that Brisbane will just delist Aker and not want anything for him ?

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't want to pay anything for him (other than a reasonable salary).
However, if we were to get him for free, which I severely doubt, I think it would be stupid to pass on a player of his class.

I really don't know to be honest. It's a pretty rare situation.

If he walks, what happens then? Will Brisbane trade him for whatever they can get, but then will Aker agree to the trade?

Will Brisbane refuse to delist him and force him out of footy?

If he's in the PSD though, I'd take him in a flash.

So you should to.Its common sense that he wouldnt want to come to a club like Essendon and even a dud like you should be able to understand that

No point wasting money on a player like aker to try and become successful again straight away.
We just need to be patient and enjoy watching the youngsters develop

the way things are going brisbane would pay his contract out and let him go in the pre season draft, but i think a club will give something up for him. he is only 29 and by no means finished, if a player isnt happy his form is naturally going to decline. You people probably thought byron pickett was finished. aker would provide plenty more grunt and class in our lacklustre midfield. and why would aker want to come to this great club that we call ours, a club that is equal holder of the most premiership flags thats been around longer then 100 years. Is it money or is it security for a promising future in coaching. Sheeds see someone that comes from left field and aker know he will be understood. LLoyd will be drroling at the sight of aker grabbing and kicking to him.
