View Full Version : RIP Six Feet Under
Ha, Im probably the last person on earth to have finally seen the final series, but oh well, who cares.
What an awesome show, it'll be missed! :(
(No thanks, btw, goes to you Channel Nine, who had shown nothing but contempt towards this show, since it began, 'burying' it in a late night slot :thumbsd: )

The last 4 weeks leading to tonights episode were quite stunning , but have you ever seen a better episode of television than tonights finale?
It was so brilliant, spot-on and evocative that I'm still utterly blown away 40 minutes later.
The best Television episode I've ever seen and a great series that lost its way at times (particularly in the middle part of it's run), but was able to get itself back on track when it focussed on life, death and the inbetween.

I KNOW!!!!
I am not ashamed to admit I was in tears by the end of it! (and close to tears when they did that toast to Nate) :o
That ageing makeup was a bit dodgy, but that final scene was SO well done regardless!

Not excusing their contempt for one minute - Channel 9 simply don't deserve to be associated with such quality shows as Six Feet Under, The Sopranos & West Wing - but I actually quite like them being "buried" at a late hour. They tend to retain their 'cult' status, which makes everyday conversations with other admirers of these shows so much more enjoyable.

I've been watching the show since midway through the second season (caught up with the earlier episodes I missed via DVD). One of the best tv series I've ever seen. :thumbsu:
The missus and I always stayed up and watched it, week after week, so it will be very strange not to have it on any more. As a side note, I accidentally found out about a year ago that Nate died, but I had to keep it under my hat so I didn't spoil it for my better half (I was reading a review of the SFU soundtrack cd and the review casually mentioned that Nate dies in the final season. I was very ****ed off).
And yes, totally agree with you re: Channel Nine. I still don't understand why the commercial networks pick up tv series' like this one. Surely they must realise that they won't find a mainstream audience? Once they realise it's not going to be a "hit" and there's only a few die-hards watching a series, they just don't give a rats and shove it around timeslot-wise wherever they feel like (Channel Ten have done an even worse hatchet job on The Shield, taking it off the air altogether midway through the most recent series that was screened here). Thank God for DVD!
R.I.P. Six Feet Under.
Oh, and undoubtedly one of the best series finales I've seen. :thumbsu:

Their Obituaries. (http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/obituary/episode63.shtml)
Killer episode. :)
I loved the way they wrapped up all of the characters, effectively killing them all off - really well thought out and quite chilling.
I'm really gunna miss not having that dysfunctional family in my life anymore.
What can we read into Maggie and her final scene in that clinic?
I always hoped we'd find out what happened to Lisa, or did I miss an episode somewhere along the lines?

It was fantastic the way they did that. (took me a couple of scenes into it to realise what they were doing but! :) )
And what can we read into the way Brenda died?? With her brother by her side, (boring her to death maybe ;) :D )
Im glad I taped it. Will have to watch it again me thinks!

I always hoped we'd find out what happened to Lisa, or did I miss an episode somewhere along the lines?"...Nate finds a Polaroid of Lisa in a book that Barb's daughter, Michaela, had given to him shortly after Lisa's death. The picture disturbs him, especially when he notices Lisa's outfit is relatively new and concludes that the photograph must have been taken the day she died. Nate drives to Santa Cruz to confront Michaela who directs him to her father. When Nate questions Hoyt about the photograph, he backpedals at first, and then admits that he and Lisa had an on-going affair. Barb overhears Hoyt's confession and when Hoyt realizes she is there, he kills himself, leaving Nate with many unanswered questions. Upon his return home, Nate asks Brenda to marry him. She says yes."

You definitely must have missed that one, because it's not something you'd forget. Hoyt actually shot himself in front of Nate and Barb.

I'm glad to see other people have felt the way I did.
I was a fan from day one, but I've never seen anything like the last four episodes of this show. Incredibly moving. Hard to find enough superlatives to describe the last 15 minutes....just incredible.
Can't think of many shows, if any at all, that were better at the end than they were at the beginning, but this one was.
