I did this thing on the main forum but i put to much work in it to not be recognised formally and legitimately, so here's my player review after 11 rounds of the year gone so far:
Alphabetically (who have played a game)-
- Nathan Buckley 8/10: What a wonderful player. You all know my thoughts on him, so i wont go into too much depth. AFter that hamstring that almost destroyed his marvellous career, bucks has been super. he's 34 now and going as strong as ever. Running on top of the ground, playing up foward and moving into middle when team needs him. Disposals this year: 25, 24, 25, 19, 20, 17, 29, 23, 29, 14
- Scott Burns 7.5/10: COuldn't crack a game the first 3 weeks. Whether it was team balance or burnsy wasn't up to it, his game has changed dramatically. He is now the ever endearing player we all love, he's such an underrated champ. His runnign through the midfield for a 31 year old is super. His defensive pressure has been great, and he has stood up when we've needed him most- in our pumping against melbourne he had 29 possies, including 10 marks. Possies this year: 15, 20, 23, 21, 23, 16, 29, 29
- Blake Caracella 6/10: Blake has been very up and down this year. His consistency has been questioned- he just hasn't really lived up to expectations. Althought his stats look very, very good for an 'average' player, its been the impact he's had on the ground, ie: against the doggies he had 25 possies, but i'd classify him in our worst 5 that night- his work ethic and commitment to the CONTEST weren't terrific. is it because he looks so laconic? Disposals this year- 29, 11, 14, 25, 25, 5. P.S- get better soon mate!
- James Clement 7/10: Dual all australian form the previous two eyars hasn't quite lived up to that form- but his role has been limited from the previous two eyars as we have actually been giving this tremendous player some assistance by our mids putting pressure on incoming footy. Hasn't had an all australian year, but the late spoils, the diving marks always get us out of trouble. he makes our backline look 10 times more classy. Disposals this year: 12, 9, 14, 14, 19, 14, 19, 24, 16, 11, 17
- Cameron Cloke 2/10: Played two games for minimal impact. although i think he is a cloke with a future- his running capacity for a big bloke and just his will to run and run and give his all is the best facet of his game. Work rate can't be questioned, but just hasn't done enough to A) crack senior selection early, and B) hold a place in the squad. Disposals this year: 9, 8
- Jason Cloke 1/10: The one is for playing the two games this year. Just have't seen him, although i hear his form in the ressies has been super. This guy could be a terrific backman, but his kick just puts him way back in the field. he just can't dispose of the ball. I rekcon his best possy is an around the ground ruckman but he's too small. his career is finished you'd have to say. Disposals this year: 7, 8
- Travis Cloke 3/10: Ill go easy on him, because he's only a young player. interrupted pre season, and it has showed. when he has played probably been consistently one of our poorer performers. Just his intensity at times, leaves to be desired. I have faith- he'll definately get better, but he just needs to show a little more. patience ran out when he was dropped after round 7. Disposals this year: 6, 11, 8, 9, 10, 6, 13
- Ben Davies 4/10: Now on the senior list after performances last eyar proved he was capable at the elite level. Only played the 2 games, but he's done pretty well in a side that sits 3rd on the ladder. He is super quick and knows how to find the footy off a half back/ wing, but our players who have been regulars have been super there- not giving him many opportunities. NEEDS TO WORK ON DISPOSAL! thats the thing thats holding him back from regular selection. Disposals this year: 12, 17
- Leon Davis 9/10: For a player that was quoted as being 'the worst player i have ever seen' by dermott brereton, he has been super. HAs just literally come back from the dead to be a pivotal ingredient in the collingwood full foward/ half foward lines. He has been terrific- his ability to do the unexpected and now on a regular/ consistent basis has made him very attractive. Disposals this year: 11, 8, 15, 6, 17, 16, 19, 20, 17, 12, 11, Goals: 20
- Alan Didak 9.5/10: WHo's Nick Stevens? Finally we've got some consistency out of the kid who has promissed so much for so little return. Collingwood have a maestro HFF and he is playing some ripper footy. His disposal is lethal, his goal sense is sensational. his next challenge is to step up into the midfield and be a super player there too. Disposals this year: 14, 18, 16, 19, 12, 21, 12, 23, 19, 16, 23
Goals: 20
- Josh Fraser 8.5/10: This guy has been so harshly judged this year. For a guy who's probably played less than 20-25 games in two years, come back from OP and knee injuries yet to play like he is- he's been a shinning light. He may not win heaps of hit outs, but his work around the ground is super, he's just been great this year. Disposals this year: 17, 19, 12, 15, 21, 13, 28, 21, 14, 11, 14
- Brodie Holland 9/10: This guy is seriously underrated. His importance to our midfield set up was underlined against melbourne where we just lacked physicality and determination to win the stoppages. Around the ground he is super, a little 'nugget' in and under, as well as his finishing, and his ability to get 20+ possies, take an opponent out of the game and still hurt the opposition, as well as being ultra consistent throughout the year- he's a really good footballer. Disposals this year: 25, 18, 18, 18, 28, 19,19, 18, 17
- Adam Iaccobucci 1/10: Played one game and was ordinary at best. From that game you just thought this kid will be a average- good player. i hope he proves me wrong. Apparantly his form in the ressies early was poor, but he's gradually worked his way up and is playing some good footy at VFL level. Hope tog et 5 games under his belt this year. Disposals this year: 8
- Ben Johnson 9.5/10: Probably our equal best player with dane swann. he showed how good he could be and is in his 2003 year when he was super. A rebounding half back, the herald sun outlined his affect on games when it was found he had gained 4000 m im the first 5-8 weeks. He is just a super hbf and has worked his way up onto the wing. Teams have been tagging him from the back line, which just clearly states his importance and ability to turn games from the back half. SUPER consistent. Disposals this year: 25, 31, 22, 30, 25, 13, 26, 27, 19, 27, 17
- Paul Licuria 8/10: How under the radar is this guy? Fair dinkum, i was going to say i didn't think his year this year has been as good as previous ones... until i had a peak at his stats. Early on he struggled for that paul licuria ball magnet we all know him to be, but he has been super in the last 7-8 weeks. The guy keeps on keeping on. He is a machine- his work ethic to get to contest after contest is just incredible, every junior footballer should aspire to his work ethic. Important in and under midfielder, he is a wonderful leader. not the most naturally gifted- but he gets the best out of himself. Disposals this year: 19, 19, 22, 23, 26, 27, 23, 25, 35, 20, 28
- Tarky Lockyer 8/10: The back pocket rocket, this guy has found his niche after his knee reco and stress fractures in his foot. is a credit to hard work and determination. Consistently gets tough jobs on players deep in the back half, yet he always finds a way to work off them and set up play for the peis down the ground. tremendous leader, wonderful kick, great servant this year. Disposals this year: 25, 12, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 17, 20, 27, 22
- Ryan Lonie 8/10: Has reignited his career with a sensational opening half this year. In 2001 all pies fans were salivating at this 190 cm prospect who played just about every game that year and was terrific. lived up to the hype to become the running, possession accumlated half back flank/ wingman we all knew he could be. Super player, finally showing his true colours. His dash and reboudn cannot be undermined. Disposals this year: 23, 28, 13, 18, 17, 14, 21, 23, 8, 20, 21
- Nick Maxwell 7.5-8/10: This guy is just a terrific competitor. If you know his story and how he got to the elite level- thats how he plays. he lives for the moment, understanding in the back of his mind never to turn down an apportunity as good as the one that got presented to him. has made the most of it and become a key figure in the collignwood full back line taking the taller FP for opposition teams. Plays on talls and smalls. Just gives his 100% all the time, you have to admire his determination. Disposals this year: 14, 13, 26, 11, 11, 10, 8, 7, 15, 1(injured vs brisbane).
- Chad Morrison 1/10: this guy, is the frustration of all collingwood supporters. It looks as if he's had a decent year by his disposals, but what he's done with them- he played for melbourne in round 11. he's no good- another one of MM west coast ex players who he thinks may rejuvinate their careers. he's slow, he can't kick, theres no position for him. I detested from day 1 the signing of him. Disposals this year: 15, 22.
- Shane O'Bree 7/10: I'm hard on this guy, because im convinced a player of his ilk will never take us to premiership glory. i cringe when he gets the ball- his disposal is atroscious and his decision making is all over the place. What he is good for, is pushing foward but also his work at the stoppages- he's a very good clearance player. Accumlates alot of the footy. Disposals this year: 32, 24, 26, 20, 22, 31, 23, 24, 31, 16, 14
- Scott Pendlebury 7/10: i have been really impressed by him. Started the year in horrible fashion- contracted glandular fever early in pre seaosn which set him back about 2 months worth of training. however, he ahs responded well, being in the best every week for willy seniors, and finally getting the call up against the lions. Shows great composure, he's got good pace and his disposal is pretty classy. Will be a good player. Disposals this year: 11, 18
- Simon Prestigiacomo 8.5/10: Gtes the job on the bets full fowards each week and blankets them. He is a super player, so underrated. Each year he is lambasted and ridiculed by opposition clubs supporters but his form this year at full back has been All Aus worthy. Very underrated, key component at full back (when he suits the team sturcture). Disposals this year: 8, 7, 7, 4, 10, 3, 10, 6, 6
- Guy Richards 3/10: We have been waiting to get to see a guy who promised so much in his first year. Will be persisted with- very much a project player, but thatw as what he was drafted for. he can play, there's no question about that, but his form has been bad this year. he just needs to get some match practice back, and thhat'll hopefully come with time. needs to really pick up though- the club has persisted with him a long time. Disposals this year: 7, 6, 8, 7, 7, 11, 0. Avg HO= 9.85
- Anthony Rocca 9.5/10: Our best foward this year, he elt himself down against the dee's. However we were getting smashed all over the park, so is he really to blame? Has bene tremendous this year- another player who has stood up and been ultra consistent for the first time in his career. This guy straightens us up right down the centre. He is a key focul point to our success this year and beyond. has been great at CHF/ FF and hopefully he can continue. Disposals this year: 4, 18, 13, 14, 10, 8, 11, 10, 10, 13, 3. Goals: 36
- Julian Rowe 1/10: Showed so much in his first year at the pies, and has dropped right off. Queens birthday performance showed to me that he'll never be good enough to hold a regular place in a collingwood line up. been ok for willy seniors, yet for some reason his strength- kicking, has let him down. Really needs to work hard, but i don't think he'll ever be good enough to play consistently good footy at the highest level. Disposals this year: 11
- Heath Shaw 9.5/10: Our most consistent performer this year. Forget marc murphy- heath, just by looking at his stats and accomplishments in season 2006 should be winning the rising star award. Gets some pretty tough jobs at HBF/ BP each week yet continually rises to the challenge. He is a great rebounding player with some good skills. Does his best work deep in defence, where he reads and cuts off play, allowing the pies to set up a counter attack. HAs been super this year, and people don't realise he ha splayed less than 15 games of League footy. Disposals this year: 17, 15, 25, 23, 26, 29, 22, 27, 26, 18
- Rhyce Shaw 5/10: I dunno what more this guy could've done, other than play a couple more games than he has. Collingwood's management of himhas been great, and his work ethic and determination to come back from the knee reco has been oustanding. his game against the dogs was promising, and he is just finding his feet and regaining confidence down at willy seniors. Will be an importantl player for us. Disposals this year: 9
- Dane Swan 10/10: i never thought this guy would ever be good enough. How wrong i was! Saved his career by playing magnificent footy- he's definately been our best player. He has just come from nowhere to be outstanding for us. He is mr fix it- he plas foward, back or midfield, and performs consistently everywhere. showed his class and importance to us in round ten vs doggies, when he had 10 possies and 3 goals in the final term, literally winning us the match. This guy is legit, and will be a top clas splayer for us beyond 2006. Disposals this year: 34, 28, 22, 23, 22, 24, 25, 26, 29, 6(injured)
- Chris Tarrant 7/10: A much maligned player, whenever he plays badly the public and media are onto him like a flash. hasn't had a 2003 year, but nonetheless has been pretty good i reckon. Looking at his stats, he has been a consistent foward for us, providing us with a focul point and marking power deep foward and up the ground. He is an awesome running player, just consistently works and works hard up the ground to provide leads and make position. has kicked a few bags- we all know his capabilities. Disposals this year: 8, 19, 18, 16, 11, 11, 14, 15, 11, 12. Avg Marks per game= 7.4, Goals: 21
- Dale Thomas 9/10" Everyone said 'why on earth did they take thomas with 2?' I was even questioning collingwoods decision, and now i know i was wrong. he is a dead set big game player. He is exciting and enigmatic. Has the ability to break games open, and he's only 19. Thomas has great goal sense, agility, pace, good skills, evasiveness, good mark and leap. Other than marc murphy, this kid has had a terrific debut season. he takes players on and has a form of arrogance in his approach- it's as if he has played afl footy for 5 years the way he goes about it, he is very comfortable in the conditions. Gives away alot of kilo's, but has been sensational playing off a wing/ hff. is now an important play setting aspect to our line up. Still needs time, but has just been a terrific performer. Disposals this year: 16, 20, 11, 12, 14, 18, 18, 17, 8, 9.
- Shane Wakelin 6-6.5/10: When he's played, he has been pretty good, but team balance and structure has killed him this year. He really is a great back man. He is courageous, a good mark, and knows how to win the footy. Occasionally is a bit loose on his opponent and that hurts, but not much you can say about this guy. everything he has done has bene pretty good so far this year, and he will continue to be added whenever we need him. Disposals this year: 9, 11, 20, 18, 11, 12, 1.
