Network Ten has blamed critics of the program for its decision to cut short its season of Big Brother - Adults Only.
The weekly one hour program features raunchy footage not shown during the early evening version of Ten's reality show Big Brother.
Ten had toned down Big Brother - Adults Only after complaints last year about its late night show, then called Big Brother Uncut.
But earlier this week government MPs again complained about what a party room spokesman said was "gratuitous language and displays of sexuality" on the show, and called for the TV watchdog to act.
Announcing the end of its season run, Ten today said it was confident Big Brother - Adults Only had complied with the Television Industry Code or Practice, and that the station had met undertakings on how it would produce the program.
"However, questions continue to be raised as to whether the show should be on air," Ten said in a statement.
"We did not see that situation changing, regardless of how we treated the program, and that uncertainty was putting unfair pressure on our team.
"We have therefore decided the responsible and practical thing to do was conclude the show a few weeks early."
Ten insisted the Big Brother franchise as a whole was rating well, and was out-performing the 2005 series.
It said Adults Only was drawing nearly one million viewers a week.
Its early cancellation would not affect any other Big Brother programs, Ten said.
