Anyone know why Elijah Ware can play for Centrals today?
I didn't think it was permitted because he played AFL last week. Did he need special permission?

it wouldn't matter would it. Sure, the AFL is still in Round 12, but we played last week, and the Puppies play today.
I'm prolly wrong.

I had wondered this too.
On the 5AA broadcast from the match at Glenelg today, McDermott & Wildy indicated that anyone who played AFL last week could play SANFL this week if the clubs felt it was required for match fitness. They were unsure if special permission was needed but I would have thought they would.
Only Ware (centrals) from Port & Vince (eagles) from Crows played SANFL from last week's AFL team.

I have seen players play in the SANFL and AFL in one weekend (can't remember the exact details). It is up to the clubs and the player and the AFLPA conditions in the contract.

Mark Harwood did this for Glenelg and also played for the Power on the same weekend but Im 99% sure the rules have changed since then.
As to why Elijah was able to play, thats a strange one, can only think it was for match fitness but even then???
Ah the AFL, I really don't think they know what they are doing.

Pretty sure we got away with the Mark Harward one because someone became ill, and we must of played a Sunday game or maybe even a Monday and the emergencies had all played SANFL.

I think it still happens - Essendon had to play bring in a player on bench a few weeks ago that had already played a VFL game the day before.

I think Harwood was especially unusual because he came in from outside the 25 ... all the emergencies played SANFL and were injured.

He may be playing in the same round but it's not as though he's playing two games in the same weekend.
